In 1987 Mike moved into the house down the street from me in Chino Hills, CA. As a little 13 year old BMX groom, it was about the coolest thing in the world! I was a hang around Groom, even getting to help build the half pipe in the back yard. I'm in several of those old mag layouts, either sitting on the deck with mike or Brian airing over us, or just hanging on the slope watching them shred! Mike gave me a used, blue, Strike Zone frame and hand signed it with a Silver paint pen for me. That bike was my pride and joy until i got my driver's license! I literally think about that bike weekly! Wondering if its still out there somewhere, wishing i was smart enough to never let it go!
Eventually the constant huge crowds, the extreme house parties, his cars (at the time a slant nose Porsche, and a blue imported convertible VW Bug.) Pissed off enough of the neighbors so much they forced the home owner to not remew the rent agreement and made them move out.
*Mike, if you happen to see this, thank you for being such a cool guy to me and my friends! And I swear my parents were not the ones that made you guys move..lol.
Thanks for the video! Nice Job! 🤙

Loved this, took me back. I had a Hot Streak then later bought a Mike D Strike Zone hot pink/magenta. Bought cheap from a kid that got his drivers license. Now at 50 years old, I have my unicorn. Black and blue Haro FST!
You can take the kid out of the 80’s, but you can’t take the 80’s out of the kid!!😜

I had that same '87 DB Mike D frame & fork. I got it from a friend when he "upgraded" to a GT PFT F&F. I LOVED that frame. The geometry was similar if not identical to a Haro Sport, but I loved that the rear frame standers were in front of the drop outs and not below them like Haro bikes. I was into street riding and mini-ramps, and the Haro rear standers didn't work as good for peg grinds. I swapped out the forks for some old GT's that I had, but the main custom I did was sawing off the rear brake studs. For some reason I couldn't get that Suntour U-brake to work, but I could dial an Odyssey Pit Bull to stop on a dime.

oh man, this brings back memories.. I had many different parts bikes as I would often break things catching big air and coming down hard even though I was a scrawny but tough kid... I was well known in my town for doing table tops and all tricks off of curbs, catching really big air street jumping. I got a full front page shot from our local paper in 1983 when the movie ET came out. Friends had a track with quarter pipe, etc.. I cracked many frames (mongoose, red line, diamond back, etc..) and skyway sent me a replacement wheel for free for cracking one (they were advertised as unbreakable).. I pretty much bent all cranks, and would strip out 3 piece, so stayed with 1 piece and replaced those periodically... I remember free wheeling my bear claw pedals into my shins a few times.. Never wore a helmet growing up, and never got hurt bad ever, but honestly I had to give up mountain biking in my mid 40's cause the 14 year old instinct in me was still too free spirited and I have a family to take care of as the agility wore off from 25 years of IT work, even though I am in still really good shape @ 54.

Bro, 58 y/o fart here. and, you remind me of me! 😂Seriously, your childhood was identical to mine. Broke everything (all frames including he 3 PK Rippers cranks, pedals ect). LOL. Got into riding motorcycles in my early teens. But, kept on riding BMX till 20 y/o. Road motos up until 10 years ago and started racing MTB downhill. I've have since retired from MTB DH, but still ride motos😎And, gonna ride till I die!🏍 I, also still have that 14 y/o instinct, but I'm mature now. I've been a gym rat all my life so I'm in hella shape for an old fart. Retired from MTB DH cuz i can't afford both expensive ass hobbies. Awesome childhood we had bro!
      Cheers!

When I was a kid we had a big ramp which was a re worked ww2 bomb crater in the forest which I believe is still there today.
On day this young kid came blasting though and got more air than we had ever seen but his angle was wrong and instead of missing the platform and landing on the down ramp like we all went for, the kid hit a tree in mid air!
The noise was insane and like a cartoon where he stopped dead and dropped to the ground, he was pretty badly hurt but was back a few weeks later, hats off to his balls!

in roughly 1982, a few of us kids rode our bikes about 8 miles (from buena park to whittier) to skate city.. we met mike dominguez and eddie feola.. also, grew up 1 street over from martin aparajo.. since the midish 70s, we all pal'd around at my old elementary school.. in the back there were piles of dirt (placed there by Knott's Berry Farm).. martin used to build jumps. I cant stress enough how insane it was to see this dude flying off these jumps.he was so much more advanced than anyone else was at that time. i was horribly terrible myself but i loved the bmx life

Glad to find this video (a year later) / channel, brings back many memories. I'm 49, still have my 1986 Blue Strike Zone from Christmas '86. I ride it nearly daily around the neighborhood. 100% stock (with the Fu-Kong seat) aside from new tires and chain.
The upright riding position is more comfortable than any other bike I've ridden. You can chill, don't have to ride in the half a push-up position.

Wow. Wish I had the video of our backyard halfpipe around 87. Looking back, our parents were amazing to let us tear up the yard like that. They were smart to keep us active and close to home doing such dangerous things.
You guys riding through grass to get across to the other ramp is the impressive. None of us had the perfect setup but at least we were flying! 80s rules!
I also have a couple bikes that Ive rehabbed and ride around.

In the early 90's my neighbor worked at a factory that either assembled them or shipped them (don't exactly remember) he sold me 2 Diamondbacks that i LOVED!! Other favorites I had were a nickel plated chrome Hutch, GT Performer, Dyno Comp. BMX is 100% responsible for me growing up to be an accomplished Auto Technician! I would fix everyone's bikes back in the day and accepted Butterfinger BB'S and pepsi as currency!😂😂😂

Three piece cranks were not intended to be used on BMX/Freestyle bikes at that time. They bent, broke or cracked the arms way to easily for a Pro level Bike. That's why you could find Murray's and Schwinns with 3 piece cranks for half the price of a Diamondback/GT/Haro/Hutch/Mongoose/Redline without 3 piece cranks at Target.
