I planted a red maple tree a few days ago. It’s 2 inches tall and it’s growing a second pair of leaves! And I think it’s called a red maple because they turn red in spring. Where I live in Connecticut there’s tuns of red maples that turn red in spring, and you can tell them apart from sugar maples this way because sugar maples look completely different than red maples in spring.
Been 8 months now, any progress on that beautiful tree? My neighbor's was so beautiful I just bought one. I got my Maple red from the Arbor foundation and no dirt comes with it just a stick and some roots wrapped in a moist gel for shipping. Instruction just just what you did there making hole twice as wide as pot, to break up native soil so roots can spread out no additional dirt or compost to add. My soil is hard red clay here on the gulf so it is like brick. I had to use a pick axe. They said to cover mound after good watering with 2" of mulch to nourish and protect the tree from drought and freeze. Do not cover tree stem above soil, keep mulch away from stem.
Can you limit the Red sunset maple tree to small - medium size??? Cut the top ??? I have a small backyard and love its look but afraid it would grow too big. Thank you for any tips
@@JackSpellerberg What is the name of your red maple tree? Can I plant a Japanese maple (or whichever small maple tree) in a container and then submerge/bury the container (with the tree in it) in the ground? The reason for this is because my HOA requires one tree to be planted in the ground (front of house), not exposed pots, and I wanted to keep my tree small and slow growth, without roots spreading underground massively and affecting my home foundation.
@@yannip2083 I'd be worried about it becoming root bound if it was buried in the ground in a pot. All that was on the tag when I bought mine was Red Maple.
I agree. At some point, that tree is going to push that line beyond its limits. Even about 5 feet away is not enough. Just hope it doesn’t cause too much of a problem for you but I’m sure it’s going to down the road.
Do not plant a tree like this. The top of the root flare where the trunk starts should be slightly above grade, not in a hole where it will drowned and die.
I didn't realize that thank you for bringing that to my attention. This Maple is now 25-30 feet tall and absolutely flourishing given the way I planted it. I'll definitely keep your advice in mind if and when I plant another one. Thank you again for your tip, and also, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment I really appreciate it!!
Not a great planting style 🙈 Bowl shape to hole means water will collect around root ball. Maples hate wet roots. Square hole vertical sides break base of hole. Dust with a root promotor. Plant slightly high heel in foot facing tree, mulch to form water channel at hole edge. Water in generously. Stake if needed at one third of height 🌳🍁
Agreed do not plant a tree like this. Root flare should be three inches above ground level, base should be on undisturbed soil. Use only native soil for backfill; water in backfill to remove air, do not step down; add mychorhizzae root stimulator not fertilizer; nice wide hole, tho.
@@analogoustroll2892 well dang it. I wished I would've considered all that when I decided to plant this tree. I went ahead and planted it the way I did..wearing pink crocks, and in the cold rainy weather, worried my camera and mic would be ruined if it got wet. And you know the funny thing about the way I planted it? It is thriving! 30-40 feet tall and requires zero maintenance..no special stimulator, mychorhizza, fertilizer, rituals, gems hanging from the branches.. nothing. I'm glad though that you watched this video and took the time to mansplain that I planted it wrong. Thank you for watching and commenting! Just to recap... it's 30-40 feet tall and FLOURISHING!
@ trees are resilient and want to grow; you did use fertilizer and special soil though, which is not nothing. Congratulations on its success but installing them low will encourage bacteria and fungus more often than not. How to videos on UA-cam are ridiculous more often than not, and yours was up there.

Thanks!
Thanks! Love your pink crocs!

The planting was great, I like your style. Just wish I could have seen the tree itself after planted. Thank you for the info. 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting!I guess I forgot to show the tree after sorry about that.
Nice shoes.. can’t wait to see your tree when it gets it’s beautiful red leaves
Ahaha thanks! Hopefully this fall!
How is the tree doing? I heard you shouldn't back fill with other dirt. Just wanted to see your results.
Its been a year, no reply. Tree dead af lol

I made an update video on the color change. The leaves turned yellow but sadly no red. Maybe next year! They are such beautiful trees!
Can I grow just one maple or do they cross pollinate better with 2 or 3 ???
Please advise on the soil you used, the manure and the other materials you mixed with the soil to put in last after putting the tree.
I used bagged compost, earthworm castings, bagged blood meal, and a little native soil 1:01
what did you put on top at the end? did you cover it with what was left in the pot?
It was a mix of compost, worm castings, and Perlite. Thank you for watching!

Yes you could prune it to stay smaller.
where did you buy it from?
Presidential Gardens in Conway.
Will it grow in high temperature like 28 °c
Absolutely! It gets very hot here in Central Arkansas and Maples are everywhere.
@@JackSpellerberg but it wont get a dormant period

How tall was your red maple in the pot when you bought it?
It was around 6 feet tall.

How will you keep your invading grass from competing against the maple roots ?
A weed eater around the edge of the hole has been keeping then back. There's already lots of new leaf growth too!!
What materials did you put? Is it compost or Agricultural soil ??
It was compost.

Put a huge fish in the bottom like a carp from your local creek then sprinkle some mycos on the roots…it’s magic

Not steel toe but amazingly pink for sure!
I feel like you shouldn’t plant right by the Cable line because the roots are invasive

That hole is too small. The football needs to be a 1/3rd out of the hole
