- Science time! This video doesn't answer everything about progressing time in way of the hunter, but it does show examples of how it does work. I hope it helps! =)

I forgot to mention that the male to female ratio had changed when they respawned at the end. They were 5 doe and 2 bucks. (They had started as 4 doe and 3 bucks)

Question for you. I had seen some people say on Reddit to try and even out herds for equal ratios. Based off your scientific trials would you say it’s best to even herds or simply shoot all males? Thanks man! Great video!

Very helpful info as someone who’s trying to start herd managing nez perce as efficiently as possible. The amount of time between sleep cooldowns was the only thing I was unsure of but 15-30 mins playtime (1-2 in game hours) seems to be the consensus. I’m also finding that if you have more females to males in your herds that shooting 1-2 mature females has a good chance to even the numbers a bit
Glad the video helps! The most common strategy these days to age animals is to wait 15 irl minutes in day one and then just sleep into the next year. As for balancing the male to female ratio, the player can only effect it minimally as the habit ratio cannot alter much. The devs have a hard lock on how much the ratio can shift. It's minimal and is habitat wide. Happy hunting!
Glad to see that you tried it out to settle the debate in your mind. Of course there are still lots of variables and nuances to create some confusion and randomness or at least appearance of randomness. Cheers bud

about the does, i dont test as thoroughly but i shoot lots of mature does if there are no bucks i wanna harvest and i switched lots of female slots to male and back without getting smaller groups
This is what I see as well. If there are no cull options I'll take a mature female
I'm really interested now in how all that works. In what I was doing, I was culling lots of males. Never saw changes in herd size or ratio between sexes. Got me wondering if harvesting does that much doesn't make herd size smaller, but less males in them. Or is it random how the ratio of respawns go. Oh the way sciencing just makes more questions. Love it, and the video.

so relistening to this as i am doing some mind numbing number work for the man, i agree with your herd timing logic but i would add that the standard zone time assumption is a little off. I think it matters but for that herds timing specifically, to account for travel. The reason i say this is when i was playing with herd management on aurora with caribou, the three herds drinking on the northern end of the river thru figworts. They would leave the drink zones barely half way thru that zone time, so i started going to them earlier. If i set the clock a little before drink time officially started, after running some feed zones that morning, they would already be drinking 15 to 30 game minutes before actual drink time.
Nice! Interesting. So far mine have been spawning at the previous zone and then immediately beelining it to the next zone.

First of all, I loved your research. Very well made and in line with what I knew until then. I have just one question:
Right at the beginning of the test, when you slaughter a female and a male, were you sure it was the first day of the year or is that not necessary for me to worry about in the tests? I want to make a video similar to yours for my subscribers here in Brazil, so it's important for me to know exactly that. Because the game doesn't have a calendar, I won't know which day of the year the test will start, you know?

During those first harvests I did not know what day number it was. One can only tell if they are in the first day of a new year when new animals spawn. New animals did not spawn after those first kills, so it was not the first day of a new year upon sleep. The player just needs to know which day new animals spawn in and that will be day #1 of a new year. Then the player just has to keep track of the days as they go on knowing that after three days a new year begins.

I can confirm new to the game. Not many hours. There is one heard I know for sure. I shot 3 bucks out of it. And every time I have seen that heard same spot. It's all does. Bucks have not reset yet in that heard.

I completely agree with you on a time indication, and have said that idea for months. I would be good with a bubble or meter that fills as time passes, and when full, a new year happens and bar/meter starts filling again. Of cousre three months ago and before anywhere i mentioned that, there were negative relies whether it was official discord or vidoes like yours (see comments in your three month ago video on hunting pressure mysteries)
There was negative feedback on adding an in game calendar? I do not see what harm it would do. River is going to be able to keep track of time. They want to be realistic, so some sort of time indicator would make sense. Game needs something like that for sure
Couldn't agree more now or back then, but no one else that I have seen agreed it would be good, until you did in this video, and several disagree any time I say it anywhere

Honestly, the different season every day would be a great idea. It wouldn't be too difficult for them to change the appearance of it for the different seasons and it would kinda make sense because you don't really go hunt every single day anyways but it'd be reasonable for someone to be going on a hunt and killing something every season.
I know! missed opportunity to have 1 season per day. oh well lol

Yeah I think it's neat seeing how a lot of the sleep/spawn mechanics work. Has a lot of potential in understanding why animals are where they are after sleeping
I had 2 female moose at a lake for 2 days alone on the 3rd sleep I did a male popped in a young moose. So I've seen they only respawn for me on the first day of the year I've seen it with other herds since I've killed all bucks in a herd and seen only females for a few days b4 bucks spawn in
wonder why it is hidden this info(year info) - as day time is displayed - if it's a hidden feature and exists - why don't the animals coats change from summer / winter thickest etc -
They do not have actual seasons, but it is 3 days per year, so I sort of think of it as 3 seasons =)

It's only one season - the hunting season. Animals aging and spawning is an interpretation. You don't take down hundreds of animals in one season IRL, so they made it more simple. And no winter on the same map, its unrealistic
Making the seasons change on the map would be awesome
