    To everyone watching, do not torque to 85 ft-lb you might strip/snap something. Looking at most service manuals you can see you need between 44 in-lb (for precured gasket no RTV) and 55 in-lb (for use with RTV) for the valve covers on AMC 2.5L 150ci 4cyl engines. Great video other than this, thank you!

    I just bought a 95 YJ with the 4.0. Its at 197,500 miles. Really in great shape for the miles and living in Ohio, and the engine runs like a top! I'm seeing oil around the engine and need to do this. Thanks for the GREAT video! Very professional!

      Just don’t torque it to 85 lbs though …that is TOTALLY INCORRECT …

    Good video but I'm not sure where "85 pounds" (I assume "inch" and not "foot") of torque came from? Over-tightening is probably the biggest cause of leakage of the valve cover, and everything I can find gives the specs as follows:
    2.5 Litre
    Valve Cover Bolts With RTV: 55 in-lbs
    Valve Cover Bolts With Pre-Cured Gasket: 44 in-lbs
    4.0 & 4.2 Litre
    Valve Cover Bolts With RTV: 28 in-lbs
    Valve Cover With Permanent Gasket: 55 in-lbs
    I'm not a mechanic so maybe you know something I don't? Quite possible. Either way, thanks for posting.

    I've noticed a drop in my oil pressure. This is definitely the next stop for me. Thanks again

    When placing back a new oil filter in upward position would be great idea to fill the filter with oil and install it right way. and when the filter goes horizontalm fill the filter up with oil and then empty it back before installation it really help the oil pump and the engine just a head up Cheer's

    could have shot a little paint on that cover for the old girl lol Also, It wouldn't be a bad idea to degrease the engine before you work on it, cuts down on getting dirty,dropping bolts because slippery hands, and finally, after your all done you can see better if you have any leaks. Happy Jeepin! :)

    Do you need to put the sealer on both sides of the gasket?

      +Jesus de la Rosa (aka cuba) You'll have to fold back the windshield to do that.
      Remove the two torx on each side that attach the windshield to the roll bar, and the three torx on a plate between the dash and windshield.
      Fold the windshield down, put a towel to protect the glass.
      You have access to the wiper motor by the vin plate. Take off the bolts holding it in, remove the wiring harness by reaching your hand up underneath the dash, and disconnect the motor from the wiper arms.

    Hey so I recently switched cars and bought a 94 Jeep yj to build. No experience with engine work, but I can just take the cover right off and replace the gasket right?

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  5 років тому

      Jeep YJ build yes. There’s nothing to it, no surprises under the cover just unbolt it.

    High heat silicone. Available at any auto parts shop. Not really necessary, just and extra precaution for such an old motor.

    Did y'all put the sealant on both sides of the gasket? I'm assuming yes, but I wanna be sure so that I don't over do it. Also, I've heard good and bad reviews about the cork gasket...How has it been holding up for y'all so far?
    Thanks for uploading the video!

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  7 років тому

      Wes Hargate the rear is the ccv hose, part of a vacuum system to prevent sludge build up. The front is a fresh air inlet.
