CRIMEA BRIDGE BOMB | In-depth analysis & explanation

- The Crimea Bridge was bombed severing Russia's vital war supply artery. This video explains what happened and how was it done?
The Bridge linking Crimea and Russia was bombed at 6:05 am on Saturday morning 8 Oct 2022 in dramatic fashion. Severing this vital transport link and severly impacting Russia's ability to wage war on Ukraine and defend Crimea. This video illustrates the huge fireball and the damage including the location of the truck at detonation. And solves some of the mysteries with 3D animated reconstruction.
This 19 km (11mile) bridge is the longest in Europe and was opened by Vladimir Putin in 2018. The Crimean Bridge also known as the Kerch Bridge crosses the Kerch Strait where the Black Sea meets the Sea of Azov.
The explosive included incendiaries, pieces of burning metal in the fireball which are likely what set the train alight.
The train was moving at about 18 km/h and the truck at 85 km/h. The truck did not slow down before detonating.
Did the driver know there was a bomb on board? Most likely not. The truck stayed in the outside lane not attempting to place the explosion closer to the train and destroy both roadways. Slowing down and meeting the train higher up on the bridge would also put the bomb to maximum use.
Other possibilities suggested are a missile strike or waterborne bomb. But this video presents conclusive evidence for a truck bomb or VIED, Vehicle improvised explosive device.

That's the first analysis video I've seen that showed the wreckage from the truck lodged in the bridge.
Pro Ukrainian or Pro Russian this guy has bought up very solid evidence that clearly took time to research and form into a video. Props to you sir!
CT glad you appreciate it🤙🏻
I think this man is just pro-fact
Excellent points. I didn't know about the axle, that's pretty conclusive. Also, I'm glad you pointed out the burning metal.
Glad you liked it!
There is a simple way to clear this up and prove it one way or another. Send another truck bomb and see of the damage is the same. Just make sure it’s a much larger bomb so that we get a better idea of how bad the damage could have been the first time.
I like it!
Well done as far as I’m concerned. Physics as well as logic are used very well in your analysis.
Poor dude driving the car next to the truck. At least it was quick for them.
poor truck driver too

That was brutally honest. I concur with this assessment.

As an engineer, i say great analysis, you changed my mind. I had thought the barge bomb was most likely 60% confidence. This video changes my stance to 85% truck, 15% other probability. I appreciate that you picked up the video camera rolling shutter, as i had though frame interpolation, but rolling shutter works better.
I noticed from the photo in your last video that there is no scorching under the road deck but there are still some people who suspect that the blast is coming from under the bridge, glad to see you bring it up
The evidence is pretty much overwhelming it was a truck. But its human nature to have a firmly held world view and massage what you see to fit. Always been that way and will be forever.
Very well put together. Looking forward to your next video from the next time the bridge is hit. Hopefully immediately after they finish the repairs.
Thanks Gary. I am monitoring the news closely
And that could be the case of an further, structural fault coming out of this. As a result of haste rebuilding the portions of the bridge being put in place.. Hour by hour load testing, for some months after the repair work is done in September. And if done too quickly.. Points could be missing.. Leading to another and avoidable situation. As said before. We're going to have to wait and see what happens next! Clobbering the bridge with missiles - possible! But more likely is the same fact that it could fall into the water again! The haste of reconstruction will be the Achilles heel!
You know Putin posted a video of himself driving across the repaired bridge? He’s clearly not concerned about any follow up strike.
@@streetracer2321 One word to that. But not towards you! Knickers!!! And it's no strike that did in the bridge. There is still load testing for that bridge ! It's going to be not at full use by September. Early next year, probably!!
@@stephenfarthing3819 Really? You have a source?
Excellent appraisal. I wondered why the truck wasn't in the left lane. Your explanation helps de-mystify that.
Wonderfully clear analysis, Mike! The combination of real footage, stills, and animation was seamless and really told the story. I like the Mystery Busting. I also like the personalization of the PIP and think you did a great job as narrator. Congratulations on another success!
Thank you Maud. Always appreciate the feedback and kind comments. 🙂
@@Mike-Bell What do you think is the most likely explanation for the triggering mechanism? A timer would not have been able to produce such ideal timing. To me it seems like someone would have had to be watching in order to trigger the explosion mid-span and within range of the train.
The best analysis on this Crimea bridge attack I have seen. Objective and without bias.
By the way it's correct the truck driver was unaware he transported explosives. According to numerous investigations, It seems to be trick by the SBU ( + western intelligence help for sure ). It said that the truck driver saw an order online to transport fertilizer to Crimea. The fact that it exploded over the bridge means that someone was watching, and it did not care about a passenger car overtaking the truck. 3 people have died. The explosion was so violent, the windows of the nearby city Kerch were blown off.
I just want to add that this was a terrorist attack. If you would have seen this happen anywhere else you would have said: ISIS did this! That's what they do, bomb bridges, embassies, etc in order to achieve political or military goals. And they do not care about the lives of civilians, they smuggle explosives charges in a truck without the knowledge of the driver or do suicide bombings.
@@neonlight1214 Yes, I too would call this a terrorist attack.
@@neonlight1214 It was a valid military target. Too bad that Russia allowed civilians on that illegal bridge.
To help to protect the civilians of Herson and Zaporizia, (more) ATACMS should be delivered ASAP.
A very credible and logical explanation of the likely sequence of events.

Ditto.
Great analysis, "this is the first analysis video that showed the wreckage from the truck lodged in the bridge" as another commenter mention, thanks for that important added information.
Glad you enjoyed it
The moment i saw it on the news i thought it was that truck. I can only guess that someone sent some cargo on a truck, the driver was unaware and it was remotely detonated by someone/people watching its progress.
Or GPS detonated.
While not definitive to be a wave or an object, in my opinion, you allayed my wonder this whole time on what that object on the sea was. I'm confident it wasn't the epicenter of the blast thanks to you.
I do still consider it unknown if the driver was a volunteer, or a patsy though, doubt we'll ever know for sure. Whoever the person, or people in that truck were, they were their sacrifice was a boon for the Ukrainian war effort, as well as their morale. Definitely massive heroes in my book.
Thanks for the great analysis, and examples!
Keep up the great work! New sub here!

This is most reasonable analysis.
Thanks for the transparent analysis
It will be a pitty when the Ukraines blow the bridge again after repairs!! Come on Ukraine!!
Brilliantly researched and clearly presented. Thank you.
Great analysis, thanks.
One reason there are alternative theories is that the orcs said it was a truck bomb. Because they lie so often, many people assumed that this was another of their lies. So if a truck bomb was an orc lie, another option had to be true. But this video seems to show it was a truck. If it had been a USV there should have been burn damage on the underside of the slabs, I would assume. And there doesn't seem to be.
Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Russian lies! Yes for once the orcs didn’t lie about the truck bomb. But the next strike will be a missile. Just a matter of time. Ukraine keep blowing up the bridge and Crimea starves and next year Ukraine takes it back
@@Mike-Bell You're welcome, and thanks for making the video. Yes I think so too. Eventually Ukraine will have a missile launcher within range of the bridge.
@@Mike-Bell If the trailer was transporting munitions (Russia has used White Phosphorus/Incendiary rounds), it could still would have been a 'truck bomb' if/when detonated. The correct truck would NOT have been x-ray'd as they knew it carried munitions. Hence the bogus x-ray image.
It would also explain why the Russians tried to make us believe the falsified truck x-ray. The semi cab was a dual-rear axle, x-ray shows a single rear axle cab; trailer has spare tire back by bumper, one in x-ray has spare tight against third axle; trailer has side-guard rails, x-ray image does not. Its not the same semi-cab or same trailer. Completely different units.
Thank you for a detailed, pertinent analysis. I'd been wondering what actually happened as there was a lot of speculation right after the attack and then nothing more.
Well done. Thank you.
Awesome video Mike!
Glad you enjoyed it. I hope the Russian enjoy it!! 😂
Thanks Mike. I learned a lot.
Good breakdown. I had also thought there was a white flash on that frame @4:24, but I rechecked my screenshots and I think you might be right. The original CNN clip was darkened except for a white area highlighting the suspected truck, and CNN had their white logo obscuring the bottom of the screen. CNN removed the white bubble around the truck and lightened everything else on that frame, so in addition to what clearly appears to be rolling shutter capturing the beginning of the explosion when it was near the bottom of that scan/sensor dump, the hazy sky was also lightened/returned to normal brightness in post, so it looked like there was a flash in various parts of the frame.
I also couldn't assess the location of the explosion and the resultant damage. You laid that out clearly as well. So, yeah, it appears to have been a truck bomb. And the explosion was triggered by a timer, a GPS-type device, or triggered remotely with realtime location updates from the truck by GPS location broadcast, satellite images, or some other observation point.
I appreciate the time you put into this, Mr. Bell.
Been waiting for a video like this. Cheers.
Glad UA-cam found you 🤙🏻
As a former demolition expert in the US Army, who blew up many bridges, and a degreed engineer, I concur with your assessment. I’ve seen ammunition trucks blow up. A poorly packed truck is a time bomb. This may be a self-inflicted wound.
correct me if iam wrong...for me the expansion rate seems a lil bit slow .... it reminds me of the beirut blast , which was ammonium nitrate unstabalized, too bad we can´t see the color of smoke, would be a clue to the type of explosive involved.
The strongest evidence that the blast was due to poorly packed ammunition is that Russian security checked the truck before allowing it on the bridge. The Kerch Strait bridge is not any ordinary bridge. A bomb that large could not have been "smuggled" onto the bridge. At most, a small bomb was smuggled into a shipment of ammunition, like artillery propellant, that exploded after the small bomb exploded.
@@pacificostudios propellant would explain the slow expansion .. to replace a shell with a fake one is not that hard and would easily pass inspection.
@@gilde915 - No, you see, artillery uses low-explosive, usually smokeless powder, to push the shell out of the tube. A simple spark or a hard knock will set it off. A visit to a museum ship like a battleship or cruiser will show you the extreme measures used to prevent accidental powder explosions. That's why it would only take one box of artillery propellant to fall off a pile to set off the entire load.
@@pacificostudios i know a lil bit about explosives and how to use them....for me the type of detonation...explosion made me thinking...it is not a 6k+ m/s what you would expect from a military grade of explosive, it is way slower.
I love the cut-off at the end, that was so funny

What a great and comprehensive video! Shame I didn't find it earlier. But, as I see in the comment section (lot of new comments) UA-cam just shot this up, so anyway, thanks for the analysis!
Thanks for an in-depth forensic analysis - previously, I have only seen guesswork that a truck-bomb was responsible. The question now remains, how did Ukraine manage to load a truck with explosives, within Russian territory, and avoid detection? Furthermore, Ukraine is not the sort of country that would call for suicide attackers. Overall, the attack was a brilliant in its planning and execution - limiting Russia's ability to move weaponry by rail to the present day.
Who said Ukraine did anything? All that was needed is a poorly loaded truck full of artillery ammo and primers. Truck reaches incline, something in the load shifts, heavy thing hits crate of primers, primers do what they were designed to do, detonating the rest of the load. Big Boom.
Add in the fact that explosives tend to become more unstable as they age, and that Russia has been using shells that are 30+ years old, and it's entirely possible this was a self inflicted wound.
Occams Razor in effect. Which is more likely, Ukraine secretly building a truck bomb & being able to sneak it through the Russian security onto the bridge, or an expected shipment of Russian ammo being allowed onto the bridge & detonating due to Russian incompetence when loading the truck?
The first option requires a lot of work by several skilled operators, a large dose of luck, and the willingness to kill an innocent driver.
The second just needs a few poorly trained conscripts doing a piss-poor job of loading the truck, AKA Russian forces being, well, Russian.
So, which is more likely???
@@gchampi2 Your your hypotheses is indeed credible. Indeed too many imponderables that Ukrain engineered the detonation. Nice thought though that Ruussians blew up their own key supply route. I went back to some of the YTube reports - Russia investigating the backbround of the owner and driver etc and then no more.
That was a blast to watch, thanks.

I still think it was a Russian munitions truck and the Ukrainians, or their Russian 5th column, sneaked a small primer bomb underneath it. That’s how they got it past the dogs. You don’t bother running your dogs round a truck that you know is carrying 30+tons of Ammunition. Set off by cellphone from a car travelling a kilometre behind it.
On the money.
Do you write spy novels?.....lol

Best video I've seen on this. Thank you.

3:06 Technically that is not "melted" steel. When you heat steel it becomes soft and plastic like, and it doesn't take much to bend it after that, eg, the train on the tracks squashed the rail flat. Just making sure we don't have another Twin Towers "melted" debacle - lol -.
Great breakdown. Unfortunate for those likely innocents traveling the bridge, but a definitive strike against the Russian war effort.
great video
Thank you for the highly informative analysis
My totally speculative theory : Western intelligence found out Russia was using the same civilian truck over and over again to transport explosives from Russia to Ukraine. When unloaded, parked and unguarded, they sneaked a small explosive into this truck that could be remotely detonated. When the truck returned with a new shipment of explosives, it detonated exactly there where it did.
This explains why it came from the east, why it was full of explosives, why was not checked(it had all the right paperwork), why it exploded in exactly in the right place.
The operation posed little to no risk to the saboteurs, and... it matches the sloppy incompetence we know and love.
When was the last time Russia told the truth about anything?
When they told us this was a truck bomb 😄
Other than that I can’t think of when!
I can list. maybe about the Nazis? about iraq? about Syria? about iran?
Sheer quality.Thank you.
Well that confirms everything I saw at the time. The one surprise was the truck suspension. Well spotted :)
Excellent video, I like the clear way you explain the source of the explosion and rule out other optioins.
The conclusion is funny! Love it. Let’s hope that there will be another successful attack, probably after security on the bridge has become lax, or in a totally different way!
Thanks Dirks. I’m ready and waiting for the next episode
good technical video BUT
not a word about the car and the truck behind the exploded truck, were they hit by the explosion?
the images AFTER the explosion are always blocked why?
There is no photo or video evidence for the car or other truck so I couldn’t provide anything useful about them. My guess is the other truck was far enough away to survive. Russian reports say a Russian couple in the car died in this attack.
I don’t follow how the after images are blocked 🤷♂️

Pour que la Crimée sombre à nouveau dans la misère dans laquelle le gouvernement nazillon de Kiev les maintenait?
I think it's bad for the people in Crimea. Without the bridge, they would be much more dependent on the Kiew regime and what they did, cutting off water, electricity, withholding payments and several other "fun" things where western media have simply remained silent about, is one of the many reasons, why Russia started the SMO.
