    For the longest time, literally since the 1970s, Chinese nuclear fuel powered submarines have been regarded as a joke by a lot of western militaries. Today, China seems to have started building another subvariant of its 093 nuke attack subs. And this time around, it seems its capabilities are getting fairly close to US ones. This video will try to shed a bit more light on it all.
    US Air Force is losing its tech edge (over China)

      I think the thing is can China kill enough Americans and destroy enough equipment to make the US cease with a conflict in the area? No one expects Chinese paratroopers jumping into California. Post gulf war 1 the US expects minor casualties and losses in a war. Could the US populus stomatch losing a carrier with 5000 hands? China has the advantage that it can to a degree hide the impact of loses from its people and while the one child policy has doomed future population numbers they still have bodies to throw at problems. Hopefully it will never happen anyway

    Binkov noted in his earlier video about the threat of Russian subs to American aircraft carriers that the Russian subs didn't have to be better than or even equal to US subs. They just had to be good enough to avoid detection. Now it appears that the Chinese have reached that point, and they'll be building a lot more subs than the Russians.

    China is clearly working up to the point it has nuclear parity with the US. It's not so much about warhead counts, more like SLBM survivability and having warheads that could plausibly get through US missile defences. This is because they're going to invade Taiwan know the US basically has to fight them because it can't lose access to TSMC or Asian manufacturing. China also has a covert but fairly obvious deal with Russia. I expect that Ukraine will gradually escalate into an open Russia/NATO war and then China will invade Taiwan. Both hope that dividing US forces between Europe and the Pacific and the dubious stability of the US regime and economy will let them win. This is, of course, an absolutely insane plan and will lead to nuclear war. And of course the US is not blameless in this. It forced a coup in Ukraine and pushed Russia into the China camp rather than trying to have Russia anti Chinese but not fully aligned to the West, analogous to the way post Sino-Soviet split China was anti USSR but not fully aligned with the West. In a three power world system it is very, very important to make sure you're in the block of two, not the isolated single power. Instead the US plushed Russia into an alliance with China and has bullied even Western European states like Germany by blowing up Nordstream. This was incredibly stupid. Not as dumb as Russia and China copying the WW2 Axis idea of deciding to take on the West knowing that 1) The West has nukes and 2) It will probably use them rather than lose Taiwan. And even ignoring Taiwan it's hard to see any outcome over Ukraine that doesn't end with a direct NATO/Russia confrontation.
    As bad an idea as it obviously is I think the US, Russia and China all see a war coming.

    The US generally does not talk about the technological capabilities of its submarine fleet publically. I wonder if comments made by US Navy personell about the closing technological gap with Rissian and Chinese equipment are actually true. To be sure China and Russia are doing all they can to close any technological gap in their hardware but at the same time the US is starting to build a new class of submarine and you can bet your bottom dollar they will incorporate every technological innovation they have from the latest flight of Virginia Class subs, plus some more advanced elements new to that class. Were the comments made by US naval personnel the truth or is this just intended to be negative enough to maintain or accelerate US Navy funding in budget allocations?

But…the problem for the Russians isn’t that the new Yasen class subs aren’t quite enough; it’s that they can only build a couple. The vast majority of their sub fleet are old Cold War models. The capability of your sub fleet is not equivalent to your best 1 or 2 subs, but the majority of the fleet, as well as the training of the crew.

      @sly_lock Рік тому +4

      The UK and French subs are comparable to the US subs. I'm sure there are strengths and weaknesses and many similarities shared via NATO. Even if China has an equal level of tech in their new boats(doubtful), they completely lack the institutional knowledge required to truly be comparable. The real question is whether they commit to the training, quality assurance, maintenance, and MONEY required to operate and constantly upgrade a fleet. If they do, then one day they can be. There's also a lot that you don't learn when all you do is steal technology and fail to develop it yourself. There's a possibility that Russia could help them achieve their goals, but even they are a shell of what the Soviets once were.
      Those other countries only use diesel subs, as do many others. Most of the quality versions are bought from Sweden. They have their merits, and can be deadly when close to home.

    The Russians' latest submarine wasn’t readily tracked during its first outing but it was tracked on its second outing and now, it can already be identified by its sound (as made clear by Britain, France and Italy earlier this year). The Chinese may start out louder, the maintenance is unlikely to be so bad as to match this rate of degradation of stealthy capabilities. Western countries build databases of passive sound and look for a submarine's 'signature'.
    I'm sure China (and Russia for that matter) will certainly be trying to do the same nowadays.
