Ok, guys. We're about 7 weeks post paint. Several rides and several power washes. I have a a few small debris chips, but nothing major and paint is holding up well!. PREP!!!! This is the most important part! Comment on this thread if you have any questions!
BurmTurn MX if you do it right, you’ll be pleased. Take your time and try you best to have the best conditions to paint in. If it’s cold out, dismount you’re wheels and take them inside overnight to get room temp. Store the paint inside the night before too. Cold paint doesn’t set up really well.
@@Vexelocity Professionals don't use spray paint, they use spray pistols or powder coating, because the layers will be much more stronger. Personally been using spray paint and it hold fine enought, but I recommend to use an acrylic one because you can literally take the alkyd paint off with your fingernails :D

Hey there! Getting ready to do my KLR rims! So just want to make sure I understand. You used?! -> 1. selfetching primer 2. black primer 3. Gloss black 4. Clear Thanks for the info!! Great video!
Thanks for this vid, man. That clip of your kiddo ripping that open field made my day, man. I just finished doing this paint job per your instructions onto both my Kawasaki KLX250 wheels. Stoked with how they look so far... Can't wait to install both wheels and see how they hold up. Much love man. TRUSTO IN RUSTO! 💥💥💥💥
I would think you have a much better chance of long lasting. These made it about a year before some chipping started. But that is considering really frequent off-road riding and cleaning.
How hard is it the remove the paint a few years down the road? Would acetone or paint remover work. Would like to do this but thinking in a few years I would want to go back to the OEM Chrome?
I just bought a Kawasaki KLX400 Duel Sport And don’t want to throw more cash on the wheels what would you do for a longer or wider spoke ? Would it be worth relacing them instead for a bigger wheel? Just curious before I spend the extra money 💰 online thanks
I am not sure what aluma-Hyde is, but these held up pretty good for a while. Once I got the first significant chip on one side, it’s god pretty bad quickly lol. Definitely not the best way to go, but I figured it would be worth the college try!! Lol
Looks awesome man!!! Prestine work... i just got the same bike and your videos are killer...thanks for sharing!!! By the way im trowing a handlebar rear brake kit on it!!!
I have a question for you. I know you have (or had) both the ttr50 and the ttr110. I have a '18 ttr 110 for my son, and have been slowly doing all the same mods you did in your videos. I found a used FMF Powercore 4 exhaust off of a ttr50 for cheap on marketplace. If you still have both bikes would you mind taking a look to see if theyre the same exhaust? I know the mufflers are basically identical, but im notb sure about the header pipe or the mounting holes.
You didn't let it dry all the way, and I bet it was humid too. I did a tailgate for my 96 Silverado and it did the same shit. Turns out If the surface isn't fully dry the chemicals will react with eachother and it'll do that, especially on a humid day.
Held up great for a solid year of weekly riding and washing. Once the first significant chip happened, it sort of fell apart. That’s was ok with me though because it was really a test I was honestly pretty impressed with that filled with sandblast and powder coating!
Sold the bike about 6 months ago, but at the time of sale, they were still in good shape. The only place I had minor chipping is where I did a bad job prepping the surface!
How strong is this paint? Does it easily scratch because ive spray painted dirt bike parts before but it always comes off. If i do this on my cr125 that i take to the track and trail ride with will it wear off and scratch?
It has lasted pretty long honestly. About 8 months now without any significant damage and we ride and wash just a few times per week. Have to be reasonable with the expectation though. It wont last forever and that was never the intent for me. I was really just trying to see how long I could get by without dropping $250 for pitbike wheels lol.
Some small spots have chipped away, but honestly it held up incredibly well for a long time! I had considered getting them powder coated, but since it’s just a pitter, probably won’t. We have almost 50 hours on it now and the painted wheels happened at about 15 hours! Very impressive!
Way to go dad. Those wheels look propper. What ever happened to that late model ttr 90 you put the FMF exhaust on? Did you ever make a follow up video to demonstrate the sound on the track.
So right now we are like 7-8 weeks post paint. Had several rides and several power washes and holding up great. Rode at a pretty rocky place the other day behind a few guys for a little it and got a small rock chip or two, but otherwise, really well. No complaints for $20 and about 5 hours or time!
i find it so weird that all my searching to see if anyone has painted just the spokes only results in me finding thousands of videos of people painting the shiny aluminium rim black. i personally would never get rid of my nice shiny aluminium rim, the rusted spokes however would look nice painted black. its a LOT of masking to do though i guess...
Rusty Odyssey FL250 thanks, bro! Much appreciated! Turned out so good. We’re 48 hours post paint and finish is super smooth! Really happy about how this turned out!
Extremely well for about 10 months! After the first chip, it sort of spread a little bit. Still overall in good shape, but just be realistic with the expectation. We ride often and fairly hard on it, and wash after every ride so I’m sure that has contributed to the wear. Overall, been pretty please though. As long as you take your time and prep really well, the coats stick pretty damn well.
Man I did this exact process on my Crf110 and everything was going and looking great until I put the clear coat on. It like splintered the paint and made it look textured? Really hoping I didn’t ruin the wheel and can sand that off and I guess repaint the gloss black and just not put the clear coat on

Mine have held up impressively well honestly, but long term get some black wheels or have your power coated. Almost a whole year without significant marking, but wear and tear on a 250f is more rough than a 110 lol. Painting isn’t a bad route, just be realistic with the expectation!
How's has it been holding up? I would like to do that to mine, but I have a drz and the excel replacement set of rims are like $1000 bucks. Just wanna make sure they hold up decently.

Loved the production quality and information you provided. I want to do this to my Suzuki’s wheels. Curious though, how has this held up?
It held up pretty strong for about a year. Once the first big ship happened it all went to hell lol. I would definitely recommend powder coating.

Self etching primer, high gloss black and high gloss clear
