- In this short video you will learn how to tie the Halter Hitch. The Halter Hitch is a quick and easy knot to tie and can be made more secure by passing the working end through the bight were the knot is slipped.
The Halter Hitch is basically a version of the Overhand Knot that is slipped This then makes it a very good general purpose slipped hitch. I think I personally prefer the Evenk Hitch as an easier method of tying something up. I guess it is just how you get used to using certain knots. According to Ashley's Book of Knots; The Halter Hitch is used on horses all over the world. It is basically a very quick and simple way of hitching an animal to a post. The down side, which is often told to me, is that some animals are rather clever and can easily undo this particular hitch.

Thanks for watching!
Thank you dear sir 🙏
Am sorry, but there's a important question for me:
I saw "Bear Grylls" in TV making a rope knot, using for mountain climbing and go down from top to bottom, then after he arrived opened the knot from down by shaking (shake the rope).....
I don't know if you you know it?

I have not seen that particular episode, but I suspect that it was the Sheep Shank. There is a story that a team of men used that knot during the Viet Nam war to escape down a hill. You may also be interested in this knot, Remote Release Lift Hitch: ua-cam.com/video/4q-WPaCQAZs/v-deo.html

Hi Johnny, I writing you from Rome, Italy, I would like to thank you for the wonderful videos you give us. Following your channel i found my new hobby and i would like to learn more and more. I have a question for you, maybe it's very trivial but I'm really a beginner: what equipment should I get to train and put your teachings into practice? can you suggest me the suitable type of rope, size, thickness etc. ? thank you again.
Hello Rome!!! I would say if you are just learning to tie practical knots, then any form of braided rope should be good. The reason that I like braided to practice with, is that it holds it shape well with constant use. I personally use a 7mm diameter line, the same as in the video. If however, you are wanting to do decorative knotwork, then Paracord can be used, but I find that to be a bit floppy. The best cordage for decorative knotwork is a hard lay, quite stiff. @@KnottingKnots Thank you very much for your clear and comprehensive answer. I wish you the best.
