Dang. Grabbed the most plastic, slippery, cheap cord I have, tied this knot around an upright chrome metal tube on a drum stand - it locked right in place. New skill level for me.
This is _not_ the traditional rolling hitch. It may be useful but I would not use it instead of the true rolling hitch which has been tried and tested for centuries.
I've tied it exactly like the instructions and yeah, it slides well, but the problem is it slides in both directions, so it doesn't stay tight... It just slides back the other way, thus loosening. I've tied it like 5 times now, just to make sure I'm not messing it up, but the same thing every time...

Gonna have to remember this; used to spend lots of time sleeping outdoors in the field (Army field artillery), but didn't know many knots. Planning on going camping next summer maybe...
I love the rolling hitch for sweat pants as I don't want the tie with bows which will undoubtedly become undone, yet hate needing to pee & not being able to untie traditional knots. Great hitch! Looks complicated to the novice, but versatile & useful for the initiated.
Just wondering why your bows are coming undone? Make sure you're creating a square knot (beware the granny knot!) and dressing correctly, I've never had any issues with bows coming undone - shoes, sweatpants, or otherwise.
At one point in my life, I worked as a maid on a boat. I Learn, new knots and how to use them correctly to secure a load. This is one that I was not taught, nor have I crossed this one before in my life. I appreciate the knowledge and I know I will be using it soon.
I just watched this video like 3 months ago and always did this for my sweatpants. Today I forgot how to do it and found the video in my history again and now I am able to do it again thx man, all the love in the world to you.
This works; can confirm! And not only that, but it's also *way* easier to remember and do than any other hitch or knot I've learned besides the granny knot and square knot (and those are so simple that kids use them all the time on accident! 🤣🤣). The side loop on my backpack broke a bit ago, so I used this hitch to tie it and the adjustable hanging-strap-thingy together so I had my loop back. It's been so nice to have a side-loop again!
