Like I have not even finished the video, and I know THIS IS A MASTER CLASS, "Huub Vlogs" should keep these videos up, but he should create a course on how to repair a damaged hurricane boat, he should share the revenue with his Expert helper because this is Excellent Work I Love it.
Working with a perfectionist is so infuriating, I mean satisfying... But, seriously, I would never have thought I would find myself enthralled by these videos. In the beginning I thought, how on earth are you going to repair the hull damage? It looked very serious indeed, and you're not at a boat factory but hauled out at a Caribbean boat yard without "proper" facilities. But you found Rolf, and hey presto, it turns out he was ALL you needed!
This guy makes using a grinder look easy. The power of these things is amazing but it requires a lot of force to hold it into position. I can't imagine doing this for hours.
For the price you got this boat at and The sweat equity you are putting in you saved a huge amount of coin and stepped up your vessel game emencley. Keep plugging away the progress is remarkable and good to see you are definitely going to be on the water sooner than later to be no longer land locked and trapped on that island im looking forward to seeing that island fading out of view in an upcoming video. in my opinion won't happen soon enough. so keep up the good work and enjoy your last few months on shore before the adventures begins again.in the deep blue water.
Interesting that he puts down the same amount of fiberglass in the middle as he does on the edges (from the 3 to the 0) rather than stagger the layers as he gets towards the edges. I would imagine that this method takes more grinding, taking off some of what he put on (especially at the edges) in order to get the entire patch flush with the hull. But looking at his proficiency with the grinder, it probably takes him the same amount of time as staggering. Can't wait to see it complete!
PRO-TIP!! REGARDING PATTERNS! The better and easy way to use plastic to make patterns. Rather than cut the plastic, to the shape of the pattern. Trace as you've been doing with the plastic, then when you lay your plastic down on the surface of the fiberglass, take your sharpy and make small .5-1.5" lines every few inches all the way around the pattern. Then take a razor blade or snap knife, and make small slices in the plastic on the lines. The sharpy marks on the plastic crossing/marking on the pattern lines make it easy to find the slices in the plastic. The cut needs to be only enough to let a sharpy pass through and mark the fiberglass under the plastic. The benefit of this is that you can do/make different sizes of the pattern I.E. layer sizes all on the same bit of plastic. If I make a pattern like this with different sizes I'll just mark lines from the largest pattern to the smallest all the way around using a sharpie, and spaced often enough to reveal the shape like dotted lines on the material. You use far lest plastic in this method and save a lot of time. Just remember to number your layers both on the plastic and on the material and use arrows for orientation.
Hey Huub, good work on the catamaran, I like you video's a lot. 👍 But what happend between you and Danielle, you said only a few words about it but I didn't understand it...... I found the team of you both very amazing.....
Great job. Somehow I still do not understand how the new mats get the connection to the old parts of the boat and how this can be as strong as before. But I guess you know what you do. I like these repair videos.
It seems Daniela is out from this Channel, now the channel name is back to Huub Vlogs again, I expected as the structural work of this boat is nearing completion, I guess Huub will look for a long term companion, someone possibly from Europe to accompany him on his new CAT.
Bonjour.
I have learned more from Huub about sailing than any other channel. I am a huge fan. Dani saved the show by inspiring Huub to get back to sailing when he was feeling discouraged. If Dani never comes back I hope Huub finally meets a girl that is equally amazing.
Repairing a damaged catamaran is interesting. But to tell it straight, Daniela was a lot more interesting. She was not only a fine woman in herself, but she was a great partner for you. To see the two of you working together was a real treat. She went back to finish school? That is important for her. Oh I remember, she was 24. Sorry, I forgot.
I noticed that the name of the Vlog has changed back to the original. Does that mean you and Daniella have parted ways? If so, I am sorry to hear that. I will continue to follow you. I enjoy watching your progress on Limonada.
Dani is continuing her schooling in Cuba to become a lawyer. Yes I miss her. She convinced Huub to continue sailing when he was feeling down. Danielle saved the show. I learned so much about sailing from watching Huub.
While I appreciate all of the work being done, I am finding that I am not enjoying watching the process as much as I thought I would. Somehow, the videos are just not very entertaining and I have watched a lot of work related videos that were quite entertaining and engaging. I feel like I am just watching sanding and grinding week after week. I realize that is what needs to be done but I feel that the videos could be more engaging for the viewer. "Oh, a Huub video. Another 20 minutes of time lapse audio to listen to while I do computer work. Yay!"
What i still don't understand is why you put a fiberglass patch directly on the repair where it doesn't spread out to grab the hull until only later like in this episode.isnt those 3 layers you put down directly on the patch basically not doing anything?
Each layer should overlap the feathered edges of the existing glass, what they are doing is just a lump of epoxy thinly skinned over. It's never going to be as strong as it originally was.
The damage is extending all over the boat as you can see after grinding the exterior of the holes, fractures, and delams everywhere to sink you in deep and dangerous waters in the future. Chock it up to an education in stupidity... what a can of worms you are pouring $$$$ into. At least your female mates had the smarts to leave the train wreck. huub is always creating... this boat should never, ever go back in the water!
Don't agree with how he's laying on the exterior fiberglass matt. It should go from smaller to larger so that each layer is attached to the existing fiberglass. So now if the first layer fails then all subsequent layers fail.
Rolf is a bad ass. Gonna miss him when you're all done and on your way.
From "wreck" to complete, nice ,safe to use, catamaran .
For future sailing adventures. Super!!
Yes Gerard! I agree :). thanks!
Amazing work . Rove knows how to improve and restore the structural integrity of the boat .
yes he does!
It is magic to see the damage disappear each week. Thank you for showing us this is possible to do ❤️
You're very welcome!
Your fiberglass repairman is a real hero. So glad to see the success. The boat repair looked daunting.
Yes he is! Soon we'll be in the water again!

You're lucky to have the excellent helper
Yes I do!
Very educational, l appreciate it immensely!!!!thank you guys. 😊👍👋
You're welcome!
No respirators and face and skin protection is anti intelligence... gorilla boatwork is for fools
Huub, major damage, major repair, major progress! Mega cheers!
This guy makes using a grinder look easy. The power of these things is amazing but it requires a lot of force to hold it into position. I can't imagine doing this for hours.
yes! Requires a LOT of practice !
Very nice repairs your friend knows his business! The real work is fairing everything before paint!
Nice to watch a pro do it the right way, great video Huub and friend .Looking great and what a big job. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, we're all learning a lot!

It is coming along very nicely. Can’t wait to see the finished product.

Really interesting to see how you fix these big repairs
Great work.

Het word inderdaad steviger dan nieuw👍⚓😊
Bring him to the boat shows!
Na das sieht doch viel besser aus 👍👍👍👍
Grüße aus Spanien Wolfram
Very good work
The your receiving is priceless
Electric scissors are useful when you have so many cuts to make!😜🥳
Great show keep going😂👍😂
Excellent work.
Happy Holiday's Huub and to tour amazing helper ☃️🎄
Hey Huub, good work on the catamaran, I like you video's a lot. 👍 But what happend between you and Danielle, you said only a few words about it but I didn't understand it...... I found the team of you both very amazing.....
Maybe install extra bilge pumps in each hull, water is amazingly unrelentless, when boat is full time in the water.
Bravo 😊
Oh this is so great! Love seeing the progress!! Do you still have the yoga friend who was with you for a bit , she should come back 😊!!
The repair stronger than original after inside glassed .
Hartstikke mooi,....klaar, hahaha 😆.
Nice episode 👏 and good progress, btw 👍.
thank you!

But I guess you know what you do.
I like these repair videos.
I just got 15 stitches in my foot from one of those 4" angle grinders. And I was lucky it wasn't worst.
The guy knows his fibereglass
Keep up the good work.
Until next week, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii!
Aloha and cheers 🍻
And Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄
Cheers back!
When will we catch up to splash? ❤
Getting there! Hope you choose diff color for bottom paint tho!
Interested in this diamond grinding disk he is using. Is there a make model?
Getting closer to go in the water.

Interesting to see two mats used at the same time, makes the work go faster? Is boat painting just around the corner? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Chuck! Yes, 3 at a time !
What about the other side? The inside of the boat. Shouldn't you glass that side too if you want to make it strong?
Wow🎉
-3 to "flush" is the english term.
👌
I hope you took this boat for little cost!? Tell or no. Thank you!!

Lots of work but not too much now

Daniela ??
Another great vid… BUT can we get like 30 mins a vid?! 😅
Uf, I'm doing all the editing alone and working at the same time, I really wish I had time for that.....
@ all good keep em coming!
Am I the only one that thinks that delaminating void at the top of the big patch is a problem? What am I missing?
Давай давай до приезда Даниелы надо всё сделать )))
They broke up

No. That was structural base which is much stronger than the original core. They overlay that.
The damage is extending all over the boat as you can see after grinding the exterior of the holes, fractures, and delams everywhere to sink you in deep and dangerous waters in the future. Chock it up to an education in stupidity... what a can of worms you are pouring $$$$ into. exactly what I have been asking myself
The real strength comes from the inside when he lays up plenty of layers and over laps the repair.
It's coming along grest ❤
Don't agree with how he's laying on the exterior fiberglass matt. It should go from smaller to larger so that each layer is attached to the existing fiberglass. So now if the first layer fails then all subsequent layers fail.
hello yet another step towards the finish nice work 👍👍👍👌
Thank you 👍
Starting to look like a government job 😊
Goodbye Daniela ,,,,, not going to miss you
Where your girlfriend or wife ????
boring
Can you find some less annoying music? That crap makes it hard to watch you videos. Otherwise interesting.
Cc and mute, dude
