I lived in Ashland, Commonwealth of Kentucky, about 94-96, and saw John Hartford step of a steamboat onto the ;public ramp into the Ohio River. Many children gathered around him quickly, he sang a few golden tunes, then onward to the Greenup Locks & Dam. He was here in Athens, my home now, when his muse takes control of the audience. John Hartford/MARK TWANG, album, among top favorites through college and law school. A lifetime boater here, as well, while Mr Hartford was certified as Captain in these engineering marvels of transportation, when they ran along even after the railroads clung the shores. Cannot say enough about John Hartford, a kind man of sublime #talent 🐬
Wow! I'm an old fan. I've visited down in New Orleans, from California - the river culture really is unique. You get a good sense of his love for those old boats and all that culture. Hartford was as unique as that river. Perhaps at least part of his spirit will always be there. Thanks for sharing.
Oh hear that lonesome old River boat whistle blow... it blows for thee, John ...for those of us that would so know. ...one of the saddest days of my life the day John Hartford died...

Wow, what a blast from the past. We lived in Peoria, IL from 1975-1981 and rode this great boat a few times. What a great way to see the river!

We went up to Lacrosse, WI in 2007 and just happened to find the Julia Belle Swain. A very special day indeed.
Thank you so much for posting these videos. You're making a lot of people very happy, including me!

@UterusMeningitis That's way cool!!!
Met John in the pilot house,
What was he like?
@UterusMeningitis Your dad's got his head on straight! It's a PRIMO name, even if you are named after a steamboat :)
From Athens Ohio now as opposed to being in Athens Ohio then !
@UterusMeningitis
Got a sister named Katie Belle? ; )
If you like this one, you're gonna love the one I did back about 1985
