- The Wagner Group exchanged prisoners of war with Ukraine on Thursday, and released a video and drone shots showing men in uniform being passed from one side to another in an unidentified location.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff said on Thursday that they had secured the release of 106 captured Ukrainian soldiers in a prisoner exchange with Russia.
Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin is seen addressing the returning Russian soldiers, among which it appears are fighters from his group of mercenaries, as well as officers of the Rosgvardia and one fighter of the Akhmat unit.
Mr Prigozhin released a video on Thursday morning in which he said that the withdrawal of his fighters from Bakhmut had begun, after Russia claimed to have captured the city following months of fighting.
Tatiana Moskalkova, Russia's human rights ombudsman, confirmed Russia's Wagner private military unit took part in an exchange of fighters on Thursday, but gave no further details.

I saw another video of Wagner returning POWs on orthodox easter, and the Wagner leader lined them up and told them " I hope not to see u again " .
In total I believe it's around 300++ soldiers returned to Ukraine and Ukraine has only given back 170ish or more.... Goes to show the respect Wagner has for his enemy
PMC Wagnar is usually branded as a bunch of savages. But here they showed proper respect for those fallen foreign mercenaries. Admirable. 👏👏

There's been a few times when prisoner exchanges or humanitarian corridors have been violated like this. Ilovaisk in 2014 being a good example of 1000 Ukrainians killed at point blank range when they were told they'd be let out of the encirclement if they left their weapons behind.

Yevgeny Prigozhin has been really respectful and also commended how the Ukrainians (bravely) fought to defend Bakhmut. Some may say this is all optics but he's been like this throughout the war.
He said Ukraine the strongest in the world just behind Wagner

For the ratio, If that many are captured, it means a lot more are dead. A really lot more. And to see Wagner do that exchange even they're not under the rule of Geneva shows they have respect and dignity. Not gonna lie, they're kinda noble tho
The invasion is over for that part of Ukraine. Wagner is retreating and Russian military is taking over. It makes perfect sense to exchange prisoners at the end of a battle.

could be but I go by the treatment of PoWs at the start of their invasion... it was on live tv too, at checkpoints etc funny how its completely forgotten. I said then, when the Russians who are sent in see this, they'll do the same and they did.
I have questions why russians walking in Ukraine lol. I'm russian myself and I wish Russia withdraws troops from this bloodshed as soon as possible. It's the only solution. Prigozhin is playing this smart. He's being close to the action, actually in some cases he is dangerously ( for himself ) close to action. He's in direct contact with his troops, talks well about his opponent, even critiqued the reason for war a little bit. Overall, he's trying to build up himself as Putins replacement. it's obvious. Would he be better than Putin? Who knows, all depends on his view when it comes to geo politics. Prigozhin is trying to build up himself as the "modern day Zhukov".

They've made this statement since a certain moment of the Bahmut battle, it was quit late. Before that moment Vagners were taking prisoners.
That statement (of not taking prisoners in Bahmut only) was explained by Prigoshin by getting an information that one of the Vagner prisoners was executed by the Ukrainian soldiers.

Good question. I would like to know the answer to this too. It is my understanding that foreign POWs who have been released are forced to sign a document vowing never to fight again, but I'm not sure about Ukrainian citizens.

Russians frequently get put back in the trenches. At least a few have been taken prisoner twice.
Yeah there were alot of instances on both sides where captured soliders were brought back to the fight and died there... They dont release prisoners for free... both sides get their men back and they can go on to fight again if they're not too injured...

What is embarrassing about the Battle of Bakhmut is that a private group of around 50k soldiers, sourced mainly from prisons and armed with shovels, defeated a NATO trained, armed, and coordinated Ukrainian force of around 100,000…
USA trained, armed and coordinated. NATO is just an umbrella for not taking responsability directly on America.
What's really embarrassing about the entire war is that a country with three times the population and ten times the military equipment couldn't take Kyiv and had to run back home with their tails tucked between their legs BEFORE the foreign aids started coming in. Благодаря поддержке Европы и Америки за то что они издеваются над своим народом, держат территории в окупации, а благодаря НАТО они умудрились накачать себя ещё большим оружием и уже готовили атаку не на свои уже убитые территории, они хотели захватить Россию, было очень много факторов которые на это указывают и только после того как каждый кто поднял кинжал в сторону России поймет свою ошибку, только после этого наши солдаты перестанут идти в сторону Киева. Мы не окупанты и не захватчики, не хотим убивать своих же родственников и терять друзей, но держать под боком Бандеру (дьявола с усами) мы не позволим, за всю историю России и СССР мы всегда всем помогали и очень много что прощали не в свою пользу. Именно поэтому весь мир богатый, а как отсоеденились от России поняли свою зависимость и на сколько именно мы богаты, а не весь мир. В любом случае война когда-нибудь закончится, в истории человечества не было войны которая бы не заканчивалась.

It seems from the numbers that the Russian (Wagner) side has taken rather a lot more prisoners than the Ukrainians have. What that says about the overall situation I am not sure but it does not suggest Ukrainian heroes sweeping cowardly Russians to one side does it?
