The strict salary cap plays a role in this as well for sure, Basketball teams are far more lopsided than hockey teams usually are. Most sports use a salary recommendation, hockey is a strict cap. Team aspect deff plays a strong role as well but I don't think we can ignore the fact that all NHL teams have a pretty even salary.
7:50 This would apply to the outlier graph that showed the hockey teams more gathered in the middle. Their skill level is much closer to each other and thus you would expect a graph more of this shape from that setup.
Hockey has 7 game series all playoffs long as well but the huge difference is it’s a CONTACT sport unlike basketball! If you’re a bigger team you automatically go out and finish every single check hard and later in the series the smaller team is so beat up they are now smaller and slower!
