Ford cars are not the same as a truck. Also, there is no Toyota car made that can compete with the reliability of the Ford Crown Victoria. There are certain models from many manufacturers that nail it on reliability. Also that 2020 Tundra is riding on their name now. Not built quite as well as their older ones. Still. If you like it, you will take better care of it and it will last longer than the vehicle you dislike for whatever reason and neglect. Neglected vehicles ultimately get deprived of the care it needs and then the owner blames the manufacturer for something they caused. I do love the Tundra though. It can't compete with a Ram, especially the 3/4 ton Power Wagon I want. The Raptor doesn't compete with it either. It's what I want. Love the green on that Tundra. I wish the Rams and Tundras had working hood scoops. How cool would that be!? Power sliding rear window is nice on the Tundra. Once you get a taste of V8 power and sound it really is hard to downgrade to a V6.
@@mackjones7688 There is no Ford that can compete with Toyota. All of the big three cannot compete with Toyota or Honda. Not even the Germans can compete. Japanese products of all kinds slaughter the competition all over the world. The one that comes close is Korea. Koreans are definitely making the Japanese push the envelope even further.
@@mikefoehr235 True the current generation of Ford has thrown in the towel on sedans. I hold the standard of reliability to at least 20 years. If you look at the reliability of the Ford Crown Victoria of all the cars still retired but used by police and taxi drivers or used as a first car for many. The Ford crown Vic wins over Toyota. I am a mechanic and I work on cars all the time. I fix all brands and if it was made by humans. It's not infallible. Toyota makes some stinkers too. They have reliability issues and people over look those problems and embrace blind brand devotion and fix the problem without uttering a complaint. Toyota cannot compete against the big three let alone Ford in the Truck segment. They don't have the manufacturing capability nor do they have experience in that field or the incentive to grow past the Tundra. I love toyota products. Especially their diesel compact trucks. However Ford has been number one in half ton trucks for over 40 years for a reason.
Duncan Macleod Probably true for most, but not all. I have a 98 Accord I bought new that’s approaching 400k miles.I get my moneys worth out of a vehicle, and them some.I don’t buy any vehicle that doesn’t have proven reliability.
Brian I have four Toyota’s, two over 300 thousand miles, the people who drive 70 gran trucks will never admit they are shit, they trade so not get such nice(truck) bullshit off road🤣🍀
Supercharge it and never look back. You’ll have a truck that still costs less than a Raptor, has more all around capability, and in the long run will still cost you less comparatively. I think you made a great decision
That Ford will drive circles around that Toyota. Better all around truck. Plus that Toyota drives like a lumber wagon compared to the Ford. The Ford Raptor has a much better resale value. That by in the Raptor will have a long life.
@Corey A When you look at the average cost over an average ownership, I doubt the Toyo will be better. Why, because I maintain my vehicles period. Domestics get a bad rap because their owners are usually not as diligent as import owners in terms of maintenance. In order to get this Toyota as quick as the Raptor on or off road will cost you more, and suck more fuel doing it. No thanks, plus the Ford body will hold up better in road salt used in my area.
I would. I prefer toyota over ford generally, but compared to the raptor, the tundra is a relic and the trd pro tundra is a gimmick with no real off-road credibility. The only thing more embarrassing is the trd pro sequoia.
I bought an F150 3.5 EB because I've seen that truck & engine put to hard work for years and hold up like a champ. It could be the Tundra can do the same but I never seen it. Not only that the standard F150 3.5 EB will out power this Tundra and save you about $600 annually on fuel. There are plenty of 3.5 EB's out there now with 200k+ miles that'll still out pull, out run your Tundra and save meaningful dollars on a monthly basis. In this day and age it doesn't make sense to own a full size truck that is going to get 13 mpg on it's best day when there are plenty out there that will get 18 mpg and up. Heck Ford's new 7.3 will better this Toyota and no your Toyota has no where near the durability of a Superduty.
The Raptor is sweet no doubt but you definitely didn’t make a wrong choice, especially if you ended up more positive money wise. You absolutely can set the Tundra up long travel etc to Match or better the Raptor suspension wise If you needed to. I am a Toyota guy but I always admired the Raptor. Can the Raptor be as reliable in the long run? Sure maybe ... but Toyota’s in general from experience, probably more than 10 different ones dated back to 1990 have been absolutely the most reliable of any vehicles I’ve owned or had friends/family own which included F-150’s , Silverado’s, Tahoe.. S10’s.. etc etc I’ve had multiple various Toyota’s over the 125k + mark without issues and currently still have a 97 4Runner with 177k , 07 FJ 90k runs like new , an 05 4.7 with 210k which purrs and runs like new... this one I kept the longest and racked the most mileage on... 2 timing belts services (preventative maintenance) .. 1 radiator, ac compressor , alternator, battery , one door power lock actuator just about sums up everything done other than the fluid changes. Well suspension wise Ive changed out @ around 150k for a long travel set up , factory stuff was still kickin but even if we included struts/shocks etc CA bushings ... for approx 15 years and 210k & not just all pavement freeway miles either... I’d say it doesn’t get a whole lot better than that. For me , Toyota is proven first hand and I can never see Toyota being the wrong choice 😜 I guess in your case it’s a win win, either way you were sittin pretty. Cool colors btw and the matching even adds to the cool factor 👍🏽
Dayhon Park keeping the shop busy. Your brand washed into thinking domestics are nothing but problems. As Greta Thornburg would say; how dare you. Millions of people have depended on and built businesses by running domestic trucks. You think Toyo invented reliability, ha! My previous rucks all gave me zero problems, and I give you zero f**ks.
S Schroeder yes, we use fords at my fire department because there very good trucks. But the only business built on using a ford raptor is desert racing teams. 🤣
Actually driving a tundra with the tow mode engaged wouldn't make sense unless you were towing something it doesn't make the truck drive any better if it's turned on I wouldn't think
@@mudpuppy318 Ok but my dad says the tow haul mode was only designed for towing not for having it engaged at all times if you drive with it engaged at all times it will shift a lot sooner
Tow/haul mode is designed to help protect the transmission when operating under unusually heavy loads by shifting firmer (quicker) between ratios and by holding the gear longer (delayed shift point) between ratio changes also the torque converter will lock up sooner in the higher gears to reduce heat build up. Driving a Tundra in tow haul mode will do absolutely no harm other than make it actually feel more responsive like Bill McCann mentioned.
Turbo cars are not for me they usually break good job you got a nice car reliable car after all that is what matters I'm assuming you sleep with your wife not your car
The Tundra is the best underrated truck around. Love it. You’re right, the Raptor is in a class by itself, and the Tundra CANNOT compare, in any trim. But from a family perspective, and a financial resale perspective, I think this was a great decision.
Ron Sterud Thanks man, I really appreciate hearing that... I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have my moment regret as I drove the Tundra off the lot. It just felt flimsy by comparison, however, over the past few weeks I’ve grown to understand why it’s such a great truck (in its own right). I’ve really enjoyed it this far... love the color and V8. =]
"Best" and Tundra don't belong in the same sentence. So you're thinking the fact that the Raptor was re-sold for more than it was purchased is somehow in favor of the Tundra?
That truck looks amazing. Plus the resale is incredible. The only thing you need is the rear TRD red sway bar and the new intake to boost power. Makes a world of difference. I get a new one every 1-2 years. Nothing breaks in a Toyota. It just keeps running.
As far as reliability goes, your know your Toyota is gonna go 1000k miles if you take care of it. Also not to mention you probably saved yourself a lot of money by switching. I had never seen that color before. It looks sharp. Congrats and no regrets.
Shiner Sam Thanks man, honestly I felt a bit indifferent about the trade in after I did it... Mainly because the Raptor felt much nicer inside... and the snappy turbocharged 6 cylinder was missed at first. The more I drive the Tundra though, the more I’m loving it. The v8 is amazing and the simplicity is growing on me. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on the color too... more than I ever did with the Raptor if you can believe that.
@@UntamedMotors I have an account with Ford to where I can get the best deal in the world still that didn't change my mind from getting a Toyota Tundra. My brother has a 2008 Tundra,it has over 300,000 miles on it and still kicking! The only thing he did to the truck is regular maintenance. I had a Ford truck, let's just say the whole service department knows me. I bought a 2019 Toyota tundra 4x4 1794 edition and so glad I did. The only problem that I'm having right now is not finding enough reason to drive it 😂
@@UntamedMotors if looking for response get a peddle commander tune. It will help with response. They have it tuned way down for gas consumption purposes I'm guessing.
@@ShinerSam o my gosh the leather in that thing is beautiful. Praying find a wrecked 1794 and steal seats lol... but I think 1794 only came in extended cab.
If you really want that power back go put a supercharger in it. Toyota will still honor warranty and they output, I believe 504 HP and 550 ft lbs of torque. Most people who've done it report no loss and sometimes an increase in MPG.
Had a 2003 Expedition for 3 years and 60,000 miles, The engine block cracked. Bought a 2005 Tundra with 9000 miles. I just traded it in with 260,000 miles for a new 2020 SR5 TRD Off Road. I plan to keep this one for another 15 years, or until I die. Which ever comes first.
tonyb0164 thank you for sharing your story... glad to hear you’ve had such a positive experience with a Tundra! =] hope to crack a quarter million miles with mine here! =]
I had a 13 rock warrior it was leveled 3/1 with 33's and 20x10's.. it averaged a whopping 12mpg.. no matter how you drove it.. those 4.30 gears and that transmission eat up the fuel.. I traded it in 2017 with 98k miles and it had never been to a shop for anything.. I traded it for a 17 F150 with a 6" lift & 35" mt's with the 5.0 v8.. I now have 47k miles and it has averaged 16.8mpg over the life of the truck, and it does a lot of idling since I use it at work. I loved the toyota but it really eats you up in fuel, they have got to do something before winning me back..!!
Sweet truck. I just traded my 15 Ram for a Sr5 crewmax in cement. I changed out the interior lights to 5000k LEDs , license plate , cargo ,and put a putco led bar on . I also ordered oem factory headlight/ fog lights for it. The army green color really sets the truck off. The overall longevity of the Tundra is second to none.
@@deon865 yes the putco led bar is under the tailgate. A local company called ultimate truck and accessories installed it. It looks like they hard wired it in to the trailer plug outlet. They did my Ram and it was still going at 3.5 years later but they do have plug n play harnesses out there from Reccce that will work with the exception of the white reverse wire needs to be hard wired in.
I really like everything about the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro; but why, oh why, couldn't they add a factory rear locker? Toyota, you're killing me with that missing option. The 4Runner and Tacoma both have it...
Adam Polselli ikr why can’t they all receive this treatment? I think Toyota is trying to keep the price point down though... adding those bells and whistles will likely up the price another 4-6K...
@@UntamedMotors Good point about the price, but I say make it an option and see if people spend their money on it. Maybe when/if they do a total refresh of the Tundra. Best of luck!
Mike Laughlin Wife’s vehicle is a 2015 suburban with 51k on it. Just regular maintenance and she’s been reliable. Can’t speak on Ford, but this is our second burb with zero problems....
The Raptor is a beast, but I love the Tundra. I appreciate your review being a dad and a family guy with kiddos. That extra space for lils in car seats makes a world of difference. Awesome truck and congratulations on the new truck and home!
Jordon Cloutier Thanks for the kind words man... I honestly felt indifferent as I drove it off the lot. A part of me wondered if I made a mistake. After having it a few weeks though, I’ve come to really appreciate this rig... it sounds great and looks awesome. Thanks againz
I looked at one of the Tundra TRD’s myself. I own at 2019 Ram Rebel 12. I was thinking about trading it in on the TRD. My Ram cost a good bit more than the TRD. The problem with trading in the Ram on it is I would still have to pay. I was up for that because my ram had a better suspension, rear electronic rear locker. I bet at you might regret also when your struck and you only have two wheel drive, one in the front and one in the rear. I agree that the stock tires on the TRD suck and right off the bat you have to buy new ones. But remember get what you want that’s all that matters.
Toyota knows most will buy the TRD pro and not go off-road. That's why the big cab with no storage underneath the back seats, highway tires and no diff locker
Marco Femto Sad but true I’m afraid... personally, I’ll definitely take it off road but nothing that’ll actually test its full capabilities. Might park on the curb at Walmart on occasion... you know, to flex. =]]
My wife normally drives a 2017 f350 platinum, she was less than impressed when I picked up a used 2014 tundra doublecab for a runaround truck , a few weeks later she moved right into it
Raptor Dan Haha, there’s certainly a level of shell shock when you jump into the trundra. Especially if you been driving around around a newer f350 previously hahah glad she’s been converted! =]
I believe you made the right decision. Tundras may not be flashy and they love to to drink gas, but they are so reliable you really don't have to worry about them. To me, Not a fan of green though :-) , they are good looking trucks and the interior is not as bad as many non Tundra owners claim.
You’ve made a good decision. I’m on my third tundra without a single issue to report. First 160k in 6 years, second 87k in 3 years and just purchased a leftover 2019 SR5 a couple months back. The first two were worked hard towing 6k pound travel trailer and off-roading through the Pacific Northwest wilderness from Montana, Arizona, California to Washington. Oh about the stock Michelin tires, they do fairly well off-road until the snow gets deep.
wlr1589 Thanks man. Glad to hear you’ve had such great experiences with Tundras. I’m really enjoying it... haven’t heard too many “bad” things about them... so they just have a good reputation for good reason. Thanks again.
All trucks are good! Before I bought my 2017 Tundra Limited, I was ready to buy a Raptor. Then I sat down started looking what I needed and not what I wanted. The one Thing I needed was tow weight. So after test driving a Tundra platinum with the TRD exhaust I was sold with the power and torque. I tow my Lance Trailer al over without any issues. I have added a Magnuson Supercharger, both front and back TRD sway bars, I now have the truck I love to drive.
With supercharger the power band from low to high so smooth. Best of all is at higher attitudes I am able to pull my 7,000 lbd trailer without a loss of power.
I just traded in a 2006 Toyota Tacoma that I had for 16 years for a raptor. I waited and waited for the new tundra body style. I couldn’t be more disappointed in the way that truck looks. I hope I don’t regret my decision for going with the raptor, but in my own personal opinion, the new tundra is nothing but a complete disappointment. They could’ve done anything they wanted to. And they made it look like it would ride down a train track nicely. I would’ve bought the truck you have had I known the new body styles would look the way they do. Yours looks awesome!
Damn and I want to trade my Tundra for a Raptor everybody tells me not to do it but those Raptors just look so good. It's going to be five years with my Tundra so far zero problems zero recalls these trucks are beasts. Going on 50K haven't even had a tune-up and the truck idles so smooth. Definitely a good powertrain made to last.
bigozo1981 Great to hear! You won’t be disappointed with the Raptor... they are wicked fast and look great. Tundras are just super cool too in their own regard.
I trade my Silverado for my Tundra a month ago. I bought it purely for reliability and didn’t know how I would like it, but it drives great and shifts really smooth, with lots of power. I’m really starting to love it. And no one tries to fly past me or cut me off. They know that’s a battle they will lose. My biggest concern was gas mileage, but I average 16. Not bad at all. Get like 19 highway. No concerns from me.
Untamed Motors I got super white. I maybe should have looked at the different colors but it was the first one he drove around and I always said my next truck would be white lol I really like the 4runner! I told my gf when she finishes her masters and I pay mine off, we might see about getting her one
REEF X mr nice, I had a super white Tacoma TRD pro... can’t go wrong with that color choice. The 4Runner is a blast to drive... my wife loves it! Tell her gf to hurry up and finish school... geez
Is it just me or does the army green look darker on the tundra and 4Runner compared to the Tacoma in army green? It looks great on tundra and 4Runner but I think it looks kinda shitty on the Tacoma
Tundra won’t disappoint mine served me well I actually went the other route by trading it in for a trd pro taco army green. I miss my Tundra a lot! but the taco is not to bad I just wanted to try something different after 5 years with the tundra. Once the new tundra drops I’m switching back
Valkorion T congrats on the army green taco! I’m definitely curious to see how the 2021 refresh will look... this V8 feels great! If it means 150K+ moles trouble free... I’m on board. =]
Look at resale at 100k. The ford will be in the basement, and your Toyota will have more value. The Ecoboost motors make great power, but the high pressure fuel delivery and known reliability issues will make people run away from these motors.
@@AllThingsFabrication I just turned 160k on my 2014 f150 ecoboost. In doing so, I did a tune up as well. I changed the oil, air filter, and spark plugs. I promise I'm not exaggerating when I say that my truck runs and drives the same at 160k as it did when new. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I absolutely love the 3.5 EcoBoost.
Been with you since the Tacoma! I would say that I’m disappointed... but these Toyota’s just feel like real off-road trucks!!! They’re the best. I think this will be a decision you won’t regret, not only because of the reliability and resale, But because you’re still in a full size rig which imo feels even more like an old school pick up. Not to mention, you have the Subaru now if you want to zip around. Enjoy and update us on the long term!
evan melendrez Thanks for following the channel man, I really appreciate the support. The tundra is a totally different beast compared to the Raptor... feels more raw... the v8 feels great and I love the sound. Feels like a bigger rig too.
I've been a Toyota fan all my life, had a brainfart and owned an F150 and Silverado for short periods of time. Got back to Toyota a few years back and am glad I did. Reliability second to none resale value off the charts. You made the right decision.
Russel Hunlock Hah, the Big 3 always offer great looking rigs... which makes them quite tempting... but you’re definitely right, nothing beats Toyota when it comes to reliability and resale. That in and of itself makes them an easy choice!
When it comes to trucks, TOYOTA is nuts. I respect them because they make no attempt at competing with anyone. They have always just done their own thing. The Big 3 are constantly trying to up their market share with the fanciest gadgets and gimmicks, which is great if road side circuses are your thing. Some people think it's insane buying a brand new 13 year old truck like the Tundra, but I don't see a problem with it. All the kinks are worked out. Buying a Tundra will assure you that it will get you where you need to go in 20 years, and that's a level of confidence that I simply don't have with a Ford, Ram or Chevy/GMC. On paper, the Tundra is complete trash. It doesn't have the most HP, torque, payload, towing figures, or MPG and crash test ratings, however it's in a league on its own with reliability. Congrats on your new truck. Don't worry about all the hate. I can pinky promise you're gonna look back in 10 years and think it was the best financial decision you've ever made.
not me Very well said! It has ironed out all the issues over the years... and let’s face it, there weren’t many to begin with. Toyota definitely builds things to last. I remember seeing a side by side comparison of Toyota Land Cruiser parts compared to a Dodge Durango... it was almost comical. The Land Cruiser’s parts were twice the size, superior materials and far more durable in the testing... blew my mind.
@@UntamedMotors The Land Cruiser is without a doubt the greatest vehicle ever made. I was just in Australia where they still make the 70 series and they are insane.
Great video! I have the first gen Tundra when these came out. Mine is a 2007 Tundra 4x4 and, man, do I love it! I have not had a single problem since I've had it. The only thing you have to remember is to engage your 4x4 every once in while. Mine went out, but it was an easy fix vs shelling out $5k+.
I have a 17 TUNDRA TRD .... wheels/tires, TRD cold air intake, TRD perf exhaust and the TRD sway bar. I love, love my Tundra. Especially the 50’ burnouts! The sound of a naturally aspirated V8 can’t be beat!! Congrats on your new Truck and I hope you love it 1/2 as much as I love mine!
@@Robsbrd99 for one, it sounds terrible. Mine sounds like it has a rod knock at idle, yet everybody tells me it's normal and these are just noisy engines. I find that very off-putting. Also, I don't care for the sound of it at high RPM, sounds like a Cuisinart full of ball bearings lol. However the major thing is that the torque curve is all wrong. The transmission wants to keep the revs as low as possible, yet the motor doesn't make any power till 4000 RPM, it's like the engine and the transmission are working against each other. I should be grateful, I know the new Tacomas are much worse. I just hate how mushy it is around the 2,000 RPM, where most of the daily driving is done. I recently saw a Dyno chart of one of these, at 2600 RPM it made between 160 and 170 lb. That's pretty weak in a vehicle this big and heavy. The chart started at 2600, I can only imagine it was in the 140 to 150 range around 2,000 RPM. I just don't like the driving feel, I'm not used to having to rev a motor to the Moon to get performance out of it. I thought I could live with it, but the longer I own it the more it irritates me. Also, literally any modern engine can go 200k plus with just routine maintenance. That's not that big of a deal. shoot, I read a story on Jalopnik last year about a woman that put 1 million miles on her Hyundai Elantra. My 2.5 Turbo 5 cylinder Volvo has 225k on it and runs terrific. That motor also has its torque peak of 236 ft lbs at 1900 RPM, so it's great to drive and feels much stronger than the 4Runner.
I have a 2017 TRD PRO in cement gray awesome truck first Toyota i have ever owned I got 35/12.50/18s on the stock rims and looks awesome only had to lift it one inch and use 1.25 inch wheel spacers
Damian Jackson yeah I remember guys like you that didn’t want antilock brakes and electric windows. But that’s the only thing Toyota guys can hang on to in order to justify buying a time machine.
Devo Dar that’s where you are very wrong in assuming you know me. I embrace technology. I’m a pilot and actually no longer fly the plane. The computer does ALL the work. In the case of the auto industry. They use the general public as test subjects. I’d purchase a reconfigured vehicle the second year out. So, I do hope that clears it up and you know a little more about me than you did before. Cheers!
Nice, I considered keeping them too but it bothered me too much... especially coming from the Raptor. Figured I would get the most store credit from a tire company if I just did it from the start. They gave $650 for them when I got the Nittos.
I wanted the 2019 Tundra TRD Pro, however I went with the Raptor and love it. I will look at the remodeled Tundra next year. I drove my last Toyota 300k miles and I love the looks of the Raptor, but want the reliability of the Tundra.
Not an apples to apples comparison, but I switched from a f-150 last year to a Tacoma and I couldn’t be more happy. Ford seemed to be a little more loaded with interior upgrades compared to the basic interior of the Toyota and I was a little uncertain of my decision to switch but at 94k miles my transmission was starting to make noises and I was about to need new lug nuts (mine needed replaced about every 50k miles) from swelling of outside cover. I hear that Toyota’s don’t generally need those fixed and replaced under 100k miles.
jroo4 Congrats on the Tacoma, I had a 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro a few years back... and I really enjoyed that truck. Just proved to be too small with the kiddos is all.
Michael Stevens Glad to hear you’re happy with your transition to Toyota. It’s refreshing to hear all of the positive experiences people have had with their Toyotas.
I don't believe Toyota would discontinue the V8. My guess is that the 3.5 turbo will become the standard engine while a V8 will still be optional. All other full-size trucks offer multiple engines, including at least one V8 in the lineup, so Toyota won't want to be the only one not offering one.
Great choice! It'll drive like brand new when you clock 100K. BTW- That Army green is REALLY nice looking! I have a 2003 Tundra with the 4.7 V8 TRD package and love it! Got 103K on her, and other than some recalls and basic maintenance, it's run flawlessly. Also, a friend of mine works at a Toyota dealer, and claims they awarded a previous Tundra owner a plaque because he got over 500K on his 4.7L V8!
Bing Thanks bud, I really appreciate the nice comment. I hope my love for Army Green doesn’t fade over time... I’m a huge fan of it now though! =] That’s awesome! I only have 497,503 miles until I get mine!! Hah.

In my opinion, the tundra trd pro is the second best looking truck out there! That 4 runner looks clean too! I want one but I’m waiting on the bronco. I’m hoping they release a bronco with the same engine platform as the raptor. Why is everyone bashing the Raptor and Fords? I own a 2012 mustang gt with 110k miles and its running strong. Well said. I loved the raptor... i mean you can watch all my previous videos where I constantly geek out about the thing! This was strictly a financial move for my family and I. However, after owning the Raptor... I do appreciate the simplicity and overall charm of the Tundra more. I would never falt anyone for choosing a Raptor over the Tundra. It's an amazing truck! Great decision. Hope you didn't lose too much money. I had a 2011 Tundra (modified) and in 2014 decided to get a Raptor and traded it in. I drove the Raptor for 5 months and decided to go back to Toyota. Traded in the Raptor for 2014 and fully modified the Tundra. I never looked back.
Untamed Motors I’m loving those tires though!!! Sorry to copy you but I may have to get me some of those too!!! What did you do with the Michelins that came with the truck???
Good Luck copying is the best form of flattery. Hah... I purposely went straight to the tire shop after buying my truck, so I could get the best possible store credit for them. They gave me 650 for my Michelin’s... which isn’t amazing but it was easy...
Great choice, I bet you'll keep it longer than 5 years. I've had my personal 2014 Tundra for almost 6 years and I can't part with it. My company/work Tundra with the longer bed is going on 3 years now and over 245,000km. It's abused to the point that I don't know how it hasn't fallen apart. Great trucks and very, very underrated capability #'s from Toyota. All I've done to my trucks is reg. maintenance.
I love tundras and own a 2019 but Toyota always made some strange decisions to me, for example why doesnt the pro have bsm but my sr5 does? Also the landcruiser has the same 5.7 v8 but its backed with an improved and updated 8 speed rather then the 6 why didnt toyota carry it over to the tundra? Also I feel like the 2014 interior update they actually made the interior look more dated and car like then the previous interior. Like I said great trucks I just wish they wouldnt cut cost everywhere they can because with little improvements these trucks would be leaps and bounds from where they are at. I like them for what they are but it's hard not to be annoyed with toyota when all other manufacturers are offering high horsepower with 8 and 10 speed autos with beautiful interiors. Toyota is totally capable of producing that I just feel like its cost that's stoping them.
I had a 2003 tacoma v6 auto , never off road, the 2001 v6 5speed ate mud 2002 licked the payment. Great truck , 96000 miles, ran and looked like new.I got hit head on , on way to work 431 4 lane Boaz, insurance total The lady did not make it. Now my 2001 has 300000 on it and me and truck lives in mud 6mounths per year on hunting club. Tough bad ass 4/4. Now 2 yrs ago this Feb. I bought me wife 2018 four runner TRD pro. Nice bad to the reinforced core , we love it, I mean love it!!! I got myself a Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD, wanted a Pro , nome abalone . Months on list , So I got off road, love it, I mean I love it not even a squeak on either! My fat finger not working good , 🍀🍀🍀🍀
I have a 2019 Tundra and love it. It might be outdated, but I'm not in to tech like everyone else, so it fits me. I've always been worried about the tech having issues later down the road, and we all know if you don't have warranty and this happens, then get ready to empty pockets.
Kevin Lee That Raptor was amazing but you’re right... it had a lot of bells and whistles that were bound to break... not to mention the turbo 6 cylinder didn’t have as great of a reputation as the 5.7 v8.
That's the truck I have and I am happy with it. Bought a 2019 white Honda CR-V for the wife. Happy with both but I would have really liked to have gotten an army green 4Runner for her. I remember an earlier video you said only one army green per household. Glad to see you did what you wanted. Subscribed. Merry Christmas!
the green is awesome , after having major engine problems and 2 rebuilds with a 2013 5.3L gmc truck I would take reliability any day which is why I own a 4runner now
My 2014 Army Green FJ Cruiser w/white top would feel right at home with your 4Runner and Tundra. It was fun watching you show off your Tundra he's a beaut.
I could break it down for you whats the best mods i tested all of them. Best hands down exhaust is bamuffler from dirty deeds gain up 10hp and 20lb on dyno trd exhaust robs low end torque because theirs no x pipe. Best intake is stock with afe dryflow drop in with trd flow accelerator. And with SABM which is another inlet from the fender really cheap and gains true power. And of course pedal commander. All of these wont void warranty and you would knocking at 400hp 😜
As a financial decision it’s a good choice, but the tundra is an inferior truck by almost every measure. The raptor is the most desired truck on the market and the current generation tundra is a relic based on a platform that debuted the same year as the first iphone.
Tundra For The Win!!!! Love the army green color. One of my main complaints with the Tundra is ....Toyota dropped the ball not giving it a rear locker. Aside from that it's personal preference, I own a 08 TRD SR5, and she's rolling strong. Enjoy that Pro
I’m doing the opposite next year. Getting rid of my dinosaur 2018 tundra for a new raptor. It’s a dream truck of mine and I frankly want something more modern. Tundras have always been good to me though.
I had a 2018 Ford Raptor 802a and recently traded it for a 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and it was the best decision I've made. Love my Tundra. It is simple and it sounds like a beast. Besides the Toy longevity out beats all.
My 2014 Tundra is a beast!! I'm at 100000 miles without any problems other than a new battery. I live in Wyoming as well and the winters here take a toll on batteries. I have a performance package and K&N filter on my truck and it runs and sounds nice. Also, I placed a roadmaster on the leaf springs for better towing. And yes the bak-flip mx4 is the way to go. Have fun bro!
You could make the Tundra suspension just a capable as the Raptor but you would be tearing out all the TRD suspension you paid for and you would be dropping a good chunk of change. What your really paying for when you buy a Raptor is the mid/long travel suspension preinstalled.
I own a 2008 CM haven’t pulled the trigger for new one, but my advice best choice you did. My truck still runs like new, ppl offer to buy it off me and lil kids pass by saying monster truck . It’s fully payed for. Just undercoat it . You can not compare this to a raptor it’s 2different setups. Raptor is long travel truck and the tundra does not come with the dealer style. That’s why you choose your trim and build it. SR5 is the best option to build it.
eD MoreL That is great to hear... thank you for sharing! You’re right, this and the Raptor are two very different rigs... I am very happy with my choice to swap !
The *Raptor* is the flashy girl-friend. The *Tundra* is a *Wife* to stay with forever.
Naw Tundra is the loyal dog that will always stay by your side and will NEVER leave you. A wife can divorce you and take all of your assets.
Very well put
Excellent analogy
The raptor is your high-cost girlfriend. The tundra is a maintenance-free wife.
Lol😂
Getting rid of a FORD for a TOYOTA is never a bad idea. Trust me...I know
Did you own a Raptor?
@@donbaine118 One Ford...Taurus...one and done
While the Tundra is outdated, it's much more reliable than the Raptor
that’s 4 sure
Uh noo
Mo Neenja31 amen! 🙏🏼
How many raptors have you had? That’s right lol
Didn't you trade in this Tundra for a LC heritage? Score!!!! 😃
Even though the raptor is a really cool truck I would say you did a great choice for a tundra!
Right
Best ever trade! You'll end up with thousands of dollars for repair on the ford.
Uh yup
Even the Nissan Titan is a better choice than the Raptor.lol
Don’t see the need for either one, but from a reliability standpoint, you made the right move.
Right
Duncan Macleod
Probably true for most, but not all.
No comparison between the two but if reliable is your thing... no desert dunes there anyway

Fawk the overly priced Raptor! TRD pro army green is the real deal!

Supercharge it and never look back. You’ll have a truck that still costs less than a Raptor, has more all around capability, and in the long run will still cost you less comparatively. I think you made a great decision
bruh, nobody is gonna rip you for trading in a ford for a Toyota lol.
andrademeza Hah, I’m honestly surprised by the amount of support for this decision... thought for sure there would be more folks against it.
Ah, Yea your an idiot. Going from 450 hp and 18 MPG to 380 and 15 mpg. Oh what a feeling!
You won’t be saying that 200 k down the road.
Rando Commando That’s the word on the street. I definitely love the piece of mind that comes with owning this truck... =]
Yeah this guy is a dumb ass stupid moron. He said Ford is a better truck. Damn moron
@@theshowtime2375 Do you practice at being an asshole or does it come naturally?
I got a 2007 Toyota Tacoma access Cab trd sport 4x4 4.0L v6 and love the truck. It's been reliable, useful, and a great truck.
zzsuprazz Great to hear! It is very reassuring that so many people have positive experiences with these. =]
You traded a exotic, overbuilt, money pit for a tried and true reliable truck. I’d do the same.
Jason Creech my family has two tundra’s and you never needed more than the routine oil change for the trucks.
Ha exotic, blue chip Ford truck. All that Toyota will do better is drink more fuel. Tundra was cool 12 years ago, tt V6 FTW.
@@ProjectFairmont while that tundra is busy drinking fuel, that ford is keeping the shop busy. Which is burning more money?
Dayhon Park keeping the shop busy. Your brand washed into thinking domestics are nothing but problems. As Greta Thornburg would say; how dare you. Millions of people have depended on and built businesses by running domestic trucks. You think Toyo invented reliability, ha! My previous rucks all gave me zero problems, and I give you zero f**ks.
S Schroeder yes, we use fords at my fire department because there very good trucks.
But the only business built on using a ford raptor is desert racing teams. 🤣
Try driving your Tundra with tow/haul button engaged for a more responsive truck.
Actually driving a tundra with the tow mode engaged wouldn't make sense unless you were towing something it doesn't make the truck drive any better if it's turned on I wouldn't think
Ya it changes the shift points, mine holds gears way longer and shifts firmer in tow/haul mode.
If you know you know tow/haul mode when you own a tundra especially when your at a stop light and feel like you need some excitement lol
Had a tundra for 9 years and a f150 for 10 years and there was only one thing I liked about the tundra better and that was the resale value.
biggsly5000 So besides the resale value. You would say they’re the same or comparable ?

The Tundra is superior to any Ford period, Ford is junk when it comes to fit and finish.
"Best" and Tundra don't belong in the same sentence. So you're thinking the fact that the Raptor was re-sold for more than it was purchased is somehow in favor of the Tundra?
Steve QQ less... you’re obviously salty. Do yourself a favor and skim through the comments here. You’re alone.
Steve go research what the highest resale half ton truck is. Report back who the “Best” is in that category.
That truck looks amazing. Plus the resale is incredible. The only thing you need is the rear TRD red sway bar and the new intake to boost power. Makes a world of difference. I get a new one every 1-2 years. Nothing breaks in a Toyota. It just keeps running.
Toyota needs to upgrade the interior and tech though
Spaz Austin Yeah the interior is straight from 2007... =\

The overall longevity of the Tundra is second to none.
joe scott Congrats on the new Tundra! Great color choice too! Cement looks amazing... You’re right about the reliability! I hope you enjoy yours.
Sweet setup. Is your putco bar in the tailgate? And is it hard wired or hooked up to trailer switch ?

6.2 v8 raptors are solid but i love the tundras too great for towing
A Ron I love the sound of both... the noise they make is glorious.
Breaking down a lot, ah no.

It has a limited slip differential. It will lock in if it needs it.

I believe you made the right decision. Tundras may not be flashy and they love to to drink gas, but they are so reliable you really don't have to worry about them. To me, Not a fan of green though :-) , they are good looking trucks and the interior is not as bad as many non Tundra owners claim.
Bruh... I would’ve bought the Tundra first. Sick color!!!

Bet!
Congrats! That V8 with the TRD exhaust is intoxicating huh? How is it with the supercharger? I can’t imagine how awesome it is...
With supercharger the power band from low to high so smooth. Best of all is at higher attitudes I am able to pull my 7,000 lbd trailer without a loss of power.
Btw good choice on the color and TRD PRO.
Amen.
That would be a dumb decision. And at 50k miles, I would hope you haven’t had to do anything to it.
REEF X mr Glad to hear you’re loving it! What color did you go with?
Untamed Motors I got super white. I maybe should have looked at the different colors but it was the first one he drove around and I always said my next truck would be white lol
I really like the 4runner! I told my gf when she finishes her masters and I pay mine off, we might see about getting her one
REEF X mr nice, I had a super white Tacoma TRD pro... can’t go wrong with that color choice. The 4Runner is a blast to drive... my wife loves it! Tell her gf to hurry up and finish school... geez
Untamed Motors lol she just started her masters so it’ll be a couple years at least.
I traded my first generation raptor five years ago for a tundra. I’m very happy I did that !!
Is it just me or does the army green look darker on the tundra and 4Runner compared to the Tacoma in army green? It looks great on tundra and 4Runner but I think it looks kinda shitty on the Tacoma
I love my tundra and Toyota has never failed me in my experience
Turtle Stomper I love the piece of mind that comes with driving a Tundra!
The Tundra may not have the flash, but it will stand the test of time and do it reliably. Looks good too, especially in Army Green
the reliability differs greatly between the ford and toyota, it was a good idea
Aaron James Di'stefano Vallejo based on what evidence? Lmfao Ford sells more trucks than Toyota could ever dream of doing.
@Jason Creech your drunk lol tundras are a solid ass truck
Look at resale at 100k. The ford will be in the basement, and your Toyota will have more value. The Ecoboost motors make great power, but the high pressure fuel delivery and known reliability issues will make people run away from these motors.
Jason Creech bullshit lieing basturd
@@AllThingsFabrication I just turned 160k on my 2014 f150 ecoboost. In doing so, I did a tune up as well. I changed the oil, air filter, and spark plugs. I promise I'm not exaggerating when I say that my truck runs and drives the same at 160k as it did when new. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I absolutely love the 3.5 EcoBoost.
I had a 2018 raptor with engine problems.You made the right choice. I bought a 2020 tundra also.😜
Phillip Joy Damn... sorry you experienced the engine issues... however, glad to hear you made the hip to the Tundra too! How are you liking it so far?
You probably made the best decision ever ! Welcome !
I Am Socal Thank you!
I Am Socal exactly! Ford vehicles are all garbage
It’s was a good decision to buy the Raptor, he got an awesome trade in value!
Can’t beat the reliability and quality of Toyota 👍🏻
It’s unfortunate that the Tundra is the only full size truck in the market without a locking diff. But very reliable for in town driving.
Great looking truck! I love that color. Traded my Chevy Silverado in for one recently. Love Toyota.
Eric E Gutierrez thanks man! Congrats on your new Tundra too!!
I was just in Australia where they still make the 70 series and they are insane.
not me have you seen the new 2020 Land Cruiser heritage edition? I was hellbent on getting that for a quick minute... a black one.
@@UntamedMotors Of course! The 200 Series are as amazing as any other Land Cruiser. That would be a dream vehicle for sure.
Not a fan of the army green though. Pro has some many better colors.
Don’t they say that green cars are for accoutants?
Thanks man. Yeah the green is definitely hit and miss with folks. And yeah I’ve heard the accountant reference before... though I’m not one. Lol
I think it looks awesome
Great video! I have the first gen Tundra when these came out. Mine is a 2007 Tundra 4x4 and, man, do I love it! I have not had a single problem since I've had it. The only thing you have to remember is to engage your 4x4 every once in while. Mine went out, but it was an easy fix vs shelling out $5k+.
Taylor Littlehat Thanks man! That’s great to hear... I love the durability of these rigs! It’s unmatched for sure! =]
Tundra will be still on the road when the Raptor is in the bone yard
I have a 17 TUNDRA TRD .... wheels/tires, TRD cold air intake, TRD perf exhaust and the TRD sway bar. I love, love my Tundra. Especially the 50’ burnouts! The sound of a naturally aspirated V8 can’t be beat!! Congrats on your new Truck and I hope you love it 1/2 as much as I love mine!
4.0 1-GR and the 5.7 are both some amazing engines. Keep them forever!
Eggsr2bcrushed haha that is the goal! Thanks!
Just oil changes and filters. Hard to kill either vehicle.
The 4 liter is a piece of crap. I have one in my 4Runner and I hate it. Worst thing about the vehicle by far.
@@trailrunnah8886 Ok, I'll bite. What's so wrong with an engine that can easily go 200k+ miles on just regular maintenance?
Nice looking truck!!! I got a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, I plan on more videos! hope you enjoy your new truck!
Corradetti Motorsports Thanks man! Congrats on the Tacoma!
To be honest, this is a better looking tundra than 2022
Some like the war colors..Toyota dont have the tech YET,but the reliability to all others yota is the best+i love the way they drive
Buster 210 too much tech spoils reliability in cars and trucks. Takes too long to mature.
Cheers!
I have the factory michelins on my 2018 TRD offroad. I wanted bigger tires but decided to wait and last winter I was very impressed with them.
I traded my paid-off 2018 RAM 1500 for a 2019 Toyota Tacoma. It stung, but I'm more glad I did it with each passing day.
Michael Stevens Glad to hear you’re happy with your transition to Toyota. It’s refreshing to hear all of the positive experiences people have had with their Toyotas.
You will get your money back by keeping a Toyota as opposed to spending 1000's on Ford garbage!
I don't believe Toyota would discontinue the V8. My guess is that the 3.5 turbo will become the standard engine while a V8 will still be optional. All other full-size trucks offer multiple engines, including at least one V8 in the lineup, so Toyota won't want to be the only one not offering one.
D LG I agree... it’d be silly for them to ditch this amazing powertrain. People love having this option.
Nissan always offerd the 5.6L v8 in the titan.
One of the best Looking Tundras I’ve seen. Great job 👍🏻
Jorge Alvarez Thanks a lot man! =]
That’s awesome! I only have 497,503 miles until I get mine!! Hah.
I own a 2019 raptor supercrew and if I had to downgrade I would most def get this exact truck right here. Looks very nice!
I abused that car. Tacked it and even crashed it twice. Got it for $25,500 brand new.
2019 mustang gt 10 speed with performance package 1 and it feels much better than my previous GT. Sports car tight, fast, 6 piston brembo brakes, etc. Got it for $35,758 and it’s amazing!
My Raptor has 23,372 miles and it’s running strong! Amazing truck. I smash on Tundras, Rams, f150s, and evening cars on a regular basis. Take it off roading and all the Toyotas, jeeps, etc have to pull over to let me pass because they simply can’t travel off roading at my speed.

You get a lot of performance with Ford for your dollar. If Toyota had a truck that beat the Raptor, I’d get it. But at the moment, the Raptor has zero competitors. He clearly mentioned he wanted to down grade to get smaller loan. He didn’t get the Tundra because he thought it was a better truck than the Raptor.
Grats on yours, glad to hear you're enjoying it. If the day ever comes for you to trade it in, the Tundra certainly provides you with great piece of mind. The V8 sound is therapeutic too, haha.
Untamed Motors
They main thing I don’t like about the Raptor is the sound. No doubt, tundra 100% my go to if I ever have to downgrade. I’m really surprised you get worse mpg though. It’s rated 1 higher than the Raptor. You sure you getting worse mpg on tundra? Cuz I get horrible mpg on my raptor lol
@@joemomma707 Yes, all tundras typically get between 12-15mpg. Unless it's a 2wd or a 4x4 that's stock, you can sometimes see 16mpg or so. But yes, that's literally the only downfall on the Tundras is the combined 14mpg.
Sponsurd I honestly had no idea that my Raptor got better mpg. Shit, to me, this Raptor gets horrible mpg but I guess it could be worse.
@@joemomma707 Shoot, that's good to me haha. If I want good mileage I'll get a GMC Sierra 1500, they get close to 20. I've always typically driven something that gets 15mpg. I'm about to fix up a 2002 Toyota Camry that's been sitting in the shop, that's what I'll use for MPG. TBH 16mpg in a huge raptor is not bad at all, and I'm sure that's with a heavy foot...
I never looked back.
mofofive I’m glad to hear you were quick to come back to Toyota... makes me feel a little better about my switch here.
If your pulling trailers of course it will drink gas that's any truck come on people
Very well presented and articulated!!!
Welcome to the Tundra community & keep us posted on cool mods.
I just bought this exact same truck in December. I absolutely love it.
Congratz man! It's an amazing truck! =]
Senna4EvR that’s awesome to hear! I hope to keep it longer but my track record has been less.. hopefully this will change that though! =]
BSM what is that?🍀
I had a 2003 tacoma v6 auto , never off road, the 2001 v6 5speed ate mud 2002 licked the payment.
I bought a 2019 platinum last jan and i love it. My first truck
You won’t regret it. You didn’t own the Ford long enough to start sinking tons of money in repair costs.
Leonard Hartford Thanks brother! Merry Christmas!
I've been thinking about replacing my 2012 Ford F350 Diesel truck for a Tundra TRD Pro...... What do you all think?
xzer baluyot Can’t go wrong with a Tundra =] I’m loving it so far. They durable, reliable, strong and look great.
the green is awesome , after having major engine problems and 2 rebuilds with a 2013 5.3L gmc truck I would take reliability any day which is why I own a 4runner now
dmb3428 Yeesh, sorry you had to go through the rebuilds... bet that was a headache. Congrats on the 4Runner!
Would have a Toyota over a Ford anyday, unless I had to have a 3/4 ton of course.
Jeff Rooke There’s something to be said about the piece of mind that comes with driving this truck =]
My 2014 Army Green FJ Cruiser w/white top would feel right at home with your 4Runner and Tundra. It was fun watching you show off your Tundra he's a beaut.
Haha thanks man. I love it... just wanting to share the experience is all.
@@UntamedMotors You do however have us all drooling no matter our preferences. Thanks for sharing.
What else would you do after these mods?
As a financial decision it’s a good choice, but the tundra is an inferior truck by almost every measure. The raptor is the most desired truck on the market and the current generation tundra is a relic based on a platform that debuted the same year as the first iphone.
Your view if backyard is amazing. I'd move in heart beat wow.... just. Beautiful
Deon Baker Hah thanks man. It’s pretty desolate out here -that’s for sure! Lol
Tundra For The Win!!!! Love the army green color. One of my main complaints with the Tundra is ....Toyota dropped the ball not giving it a rear locker. Aside from that it's personal preference, I own a 08 TRD SR5, and she's rolling strong. Enjoy that Pro
Ron Baran Thanks bud! Will do. I’m loving it so far... glad to hear you’ve had such a great experience with your 08!
I’m doing the opposite next year. Getting rid of my dinosaur 2018 tundra for a new raptor. It’s a dream truck of mine and I frankly want something more modern. Tundras have always been good to me though.
Pedro Rodriguez You’ll love the Raptor. =]
I had a 2018 Ford Raptor 802a and recently traded it for a 2021 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and it was the best decision I've made. Love my Tundra. It is simple and it sounds like a beast. Besides the Toy longevity out beats all.
Amen to that! Congrats on your 21 Tundra. What color did you go with?
Lower tech increases reliability in my opinion and when you’re off-roading in the middle of nowhere it matters.
Archie Cunningham Agreed! 💯
Your truck looks really nice! I’m a Nissan Titan guy but my second would be a Tundra for sure
I'm a Titan guy too but the Tundra is one great truck
A.K. Vollmer Thanks man! You can’t go wrong with either truck! The new Titans are great!
You could make the Tundra suspension just a capable as the Raptor but you would be tearing out all the TRD suspension you paid for and you would be dropping a good chunk of change. What your really paying for when you buy a Raptor is the mid/long travel suspension preinstalled.
Congrats on your trunk! Looks good and sounds like you got what you want!
Thanks bud, I had my doubts as I drove it off the lot... but I couldn't be happier with it. Appreciate it.
