    I'm 8 years late to the party... Schiit Modius+Magnius on a Audeze LCD-X.
    This sounds absolutely amazing. Someone coughed during the recording and I thought it was my kid behind me. He wasn't in the room. This is outstanding.

    Superb performance. If you want a laugh when I first started listening to this I forgot I had the speed set on 1.25 instead of normal and I could not figure out why they rushing this piece, but oh my god that 1st violinist is fast. Then it dawned on me, check your speed dimwit. What a difference. :) This recording does make you feel you are right there.

      I have the same ones, those engineers really did a nice job making it sound natural for voice, etc. didn't they? The common complaint is that they lack bass, but not with a good home receiver. It's just that people are used to exaggerated bass. I've been to live performance all my life and I love these phones.

    Very Impressive recording. I'm using AKG Q701 with proper gears. The noise performance is perfect. Distortion perfect. If I have to nitpick, I think I can hear 60hz or 120hz hum and very tiny hiss when it's quite, the hum is louder, But the hiss and hum doesn't cover the weakest music signal at all, so excellent dynamic range. I think the low rolls off a bit too much, sounds a bit weaker. and since Q701 is big headset, so the image isn't as precious as in-ear headphone, especially hard to tell the position of the cello player. and overall image is very left heavy, but all of the above aren't important at all, I have to focus very hard to find flaws.
    I think it might be bcs of the position of the head, or the room, or it's the youtube compression. But I really love your recording, it feels like I'm in concert hall on my expensive first row VIP seat. Also the sound stage is very wide and relaxing to listen to , that's why I revisit your videos.
    Thankx again for your excellent recording.

    I fail to see why this is a good demonstration of binaural audio advantages. Using ORTF, you would get just as good precise location and spread for this ensemble. Yes, the omnidirectional mics would pick up more back ambience of the venue, but often that is not an advantage. Here the hall does sound good, and the mics sound like they have good qualities, so I am not saying this is a bad recording. I use binaural audio for ambient sounds for video, where sounds come all around the listener and are all important Unlike in this example, and give a good sense of place.

      @@RussellChapman99 Yeah, I have too. It all depends on the headphones cause if you're gonna listen to binaural recordings you need a really neutral, either diffuse field or close to Harman headphones to really recreate the sound waves they way it's intended. HD 599 have high bass, low mids that are too aggressive so it masks details and doesn't sound "natural" also they have a peak at 9/10k that makes everything sound overly sharp and unnatural. I say this cause I tried them by myself before.

      @RussellChapman99 3 роки тому

      @@lopezalemanaxelariel7480 I was discussing this with a friend who is fairly high up at Chandos Records. • @markmaurer6370
      @markmaurer6370 3 роки тому +3

      Actually I don't think it's the recording or your headphones. I'm going to say this is performance practice. I've actually given many hundreds of hours of classical music performance as a double bass player. Because Vivaldi is a Renaissance composer, many who play the bass and cello understand that they're not playing on instruments that were built in the same way as the instruments Vivaldi wrote for. Modern instruments are a lot louder and a lot easier to play with small nuance in volume. Consequently many performers when playing Renaissance music will make a conscious effort to mimic those older instruments. Even people who play period instruments need to change their play style because certain materials have been completely replaced and are no longer easily acquired. Believe it or not if you set up a farm to harvest cat gut, you're going to get a lot of push back from the public. Even the bows themselves are made of pernambuco a new world wood unavailable to Vivaldi and his contemporaries.
      All that being said, that is in no way a universal approach. Perhaps even the majority would say let's let's take advantage of several hundred years of technological improvement to generate a sound that is better in tone and quality. And a lot of us make that decision because we know that many people in the public will hear this inferior sound and say to themselves that didn't sound as nice as my headphones so live music isn't worth the trouble.
      And finally I'm not trying to sound like I'm throwing shade, but this is not the single greatest performance of Vivaldi to ever be captured on tape. I'm not attacking the musicianship but I am saying these are artists doing a job. And when the job is in the recording studio or at a famous music hall, it's a lot different than when it's in a church. and when you're playing for a bunch of blue hairs who you know can't hear you because they're hearing aids are going off you don't have the same zeal and energy. I'm sure your job has some great days and some bad days, well if you're a performer and try to make the bad days and the small insignificant gigs.

    Using a set of AKG HD25's here - everything is nice and tight, although perhaps a tad compressed - the strong light and shade of this composition has been lost to a degree. Has any post-compression (or in-recording compression for that matter) been added? The spatial reproduction is just superb - just like being there. SO much so that I think I would rather listen to (Classical at least) music in this manner over standard recordings any day. If I was to nitpick I'd say that the instruments perhaps feel a little "low", like I'm sitting on a balcony a little above them - I can see from the video that the audience is raised slightly, so this may in fact be accurate! But it's a little odd in isolation of the video.

    C'est beau mais j'aurais aimé les micros plus loin pour avoir plus d'effet binaural de distance. A moins que mon oreillene soit pas normale et l'analyse de mon cerveau pas comme le commun des mortels... Difficile de résumer en une oreille commune.

      Ha! I was in the library, headphones on, and I heard the cough and immediately turned and looked at the person sitting next to me.
      It felt so real. I'm glad they coughed because it shows you just how much every detail enhances your experience.

    I would like Rock gigs to be recorded with binaural dummy head, but the problem is it can't be placed in the audience, because it would be smashed into pieces. ;D

      It is mandatory to have a cougher at classical musical performances.

    I'm sorry, but the lead violin was... fairly out of tune/sloppy on any of the complicated section. Overall, the binaural aspect is VERY well done
