#LucyDacus #2019
What the actual hell. This is such an amazing cover. It sent me shivers. Its basically a female version of phil collins. Little slower and quieter. But thats fine. Good Job Lucy. Keep up the good voice
What does it add to the original? I'm curious. I listened to it, and enjoy it... with relation to it being familiar. But I can';t help but hear the layered vocals, the autotune, and the production... And I almost feel like that detracts from the simplicity of the song.
@@albchu alright let me explain. The auto tune is basically trying to sound like Phil Collins. If you listen to him. It’s 100% voice. No one can do that voice. So she’s using auto tune to sound like it. Yeah it’s different. But it’s a female version. Phil Collins will always be original and no one can ever sound the same as him
@@albchu while I agree, I also think it's a performer's "job" to re-interpret originals...that's what artists do
@@larryc3860 Jimmy Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower", Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Little Wing" and Mark Lanegan and Maggie Borklund's "Nutshell" ... These are covers that personalize and transcend the originals.
This Phil Collins cover, not so much.
@@albchu again, I don't think it's the artist's "job" to produce a cover that :"transcends" the original (whatever that means)....to me it's about the artist putting their personal interpretation out there.....it's all a matter of opinion anyway, music's not a contest
Okay, so this one’s for the Phil fans that just no matter how hard someone ROCKS a cover of this absolute banger:
Drop the cynicism, please. Nobody is trying to outdo the original song, or Phil himself. The fact that there are so many covers of this song should ring through as a tribute.
To Lucy, new fan here, well done. This is stellar.
This isn't just one of the best cover songs I've ever heard, it's one of the best songs. Top 100 for sure. And it's not even my favorite Dacus song
Heard this when it first came out on WNRN (a local listener supported radio station in Charlottesville VA). What a great cover.
I’d been listening to more Lucy Dacus because Paul Mescal complimented her music a couple of years ago, and then I saw her live at Hinterlands. But Hanif Muhammad called this cover out today on IG, and she really does understand the pre-drum tension. Well done.
Very unique voice, and an outstanding job of covering one my favorite songs of all time.
The original has such an allure to it with so much power that its a tough act to follow but this version creates its own feeling. Its has its own mystique that only she could make cause her voice carries an x factor to it that i think does enough justice to the original. Yes this is and always will be Phil Collins’ song but this Lucy girl has done a damn good job with this cover.
The sound is so beautifully distorted that I want to hear and listen to it SUPER!
I've been waiting for this moment for all my life! ❤️
Oh,lord
Maybe so *if* (one. have. any. ears..;) Can't believe I never heard this cover in *this* genre. Love her style. I think it does a great justice to the original and still stands completely on its own, I think so. Suberb and quite excellent. Dont'yo? Think.
If I had the money I would pay her to cover “pain” by Boy Harsher. She would rock it!
Wow. I had to listen 27 times. Damn that's pretty boss.!! You rock Lucy.
I found this gold, then lost it, now found it again!! This is the best cover in my opinion
I heard this last night while driving to a Halloween party on a cold dark October leaf blown back road I'd never been on and this song hit me to the point I that I wished the song and road were longer. I was moved enough to pull over and write down what I could to try and find out who it was. Just fantastic.
I see some negative comments down bottom so I guess this is one of those things you either overwhelmingly love or hate. Good for her to cause both. Now she knows she is on to something! I love this to peices and preffer it over the original. Slowed down makes it spookier. I just love it.
I tripped on your description, i'm very high right now
Absolutely prefer this version over there original version every time.
she DID THAT
Lucy . . . once again . . . surprises the HELL outta me! Love this!
Being one of the biggest Phil fans on the planet I have to admit that it surprised the hell outta me too. I don't usually care for covers of this song because it will never be better than the original but this is amazing!
Hypnotizing
this is dope
Sound design and production is sublime in this *chefs kiss*
Astonishing cover!!! It makes me enjoy this song again and with a new perspective. Please go on creating more bangers like this and revive that incredible music. Congrats and thank you all.
Eerie and wonderful.
Go Lucy! Love your version.
Queen
I've been lookin for this for over a year since I heard it play on radio🙌👑😤
This cover of the song is excellent, I rate it
What a beautiful remake
ooo this is excellent
This is so good; one of the best covers I've heard. I also really like Phantogram's cover of Collins' "Take Me Home." ...but yeah, this is an achievement, for sure. You're killin' it, Lucy Dacus. I've listened to it four or five times in a row now.
Beautiful
I've been loving these but I'm scarred
I like this version! Great job!!!
The original has always been one of my "guilty pleasures", the vinyl with the 12" remix is stashed away somewhere so I was happy to see this modern cover done so well. Straight in the radio show....
Nice cover
beautiful
dobro je znati da nisi mrtav
crushing yet another cover. jesus.
Love this version- awesome when an artist makes a song their own!
When you hear a cover you like more than the org classic. 😮🤩
Brilliant
Really good would of like to see on stage like Phil Collins
Nice version
💕💕💕
Dope
Oh Lucy please ! : 0 : 0 : 0

Great beautiful cover Lucy◇ StephopalOpal aka Big Mama ◇ New Orleans Louisiana Much Respect!!
🖤🖤🖤
O lord
Hahaha, no way!
This is my wedding song
:)
Lauren Laverne brought me here
Is it just me, or dose it sound like she is saying “oh lord” instead of “alone”?
Maybe because the lyrics actually say "oh Lord"?
i was always under the impression the lyric was always oh lord
she is because that's what is in the original lyrics though i can understand how you would hear "alone" as well.. they both sound very similar
To be fair in the original I can also hear "oh love" or of "love" depending eventhough I know it's oh lord but I like your version of you hearing "alone" too.
phil collin fans why are you so close mindeddddddddd
original is still better, hard to top it 👏👏👏
Sorry nowhere near as good as Phil, drums wimpy
As someone who only allows ONE SINGLE PHIL COLLINS SONG to play on his Pandora (this one), I'm having a very difficult time trying to figure out why the artist here bothered. PLEASE DITCH THE AUTOTUNE: it makes you sound like an amateur!
Lmao what a hot take my dude.
This probably mostly isn't autotune but just a lot of vocal modifications. Reverb, maybe a vocoder.
Phil Collins was KNOWN for having very unnatural vocals, especially for In the Air tonight. In the last leg of the song, he almost sounds like a robot. Did it make him sound like an amateur?
I hate to break it to you. Everyone uses auto tune.
@@JustAMacGuffin Daft Punk and the entire industrial music genre are the only ones who seem to use it effectively.
Everyone else just uses it to hide the fact that they can't hit the right notes, pitch or key.
Seriously disappointed in Lucy Dacus. Loved her first album, but this is downhill stuff, as was the previous cover version. Dreadful.
i agree. this literally sounds like a depressed karaoke version of this song.
What did you think of her second album?
@@alexstewart839 Didn't do it for me.
@@StuartCook Even Nightshift?
Shut up...you know nothing about music
Poor attempt
I'm glad someone was thinking what I was thinking
Wow Gerard....you're really slipping. Should have had Lucy listen to some Thick Pigeon and Slapp Happy to turn out a skewed/F'd/more interesting take instead of this Colour By Numbers version.
