    Thanks for the presentation, Unmesh. I like the idea of the new brush. I'm curious about the upcoming developments for that new tool. Photoshop wasn't perfect in the beginning either, but look at what it has become. Your arguments can be important for the further updates of the brush. Perhaps Adobe Corp is watching your channel? There is no one better to demonstrate the power and reach of using Photoshop than you, Unmesh.

    Great video, as always! You showed, that everything can be done in a thousand different ways in Photoshop. For me it replaces the need to burn/dodge on a separate layer with a white and black brush. In this case (it is actually the first example you show) it is a quick help.
    And besides there is something else that is important in this development of Photoshop: The App - while being mighty as nothing else! - is a dinosaur. It is highly welcome that Adobe thinks of better, faster, easier ways to achieve common image editing.

    For proper projects, I agree this tool doesn't really add anything. But for the super fast stuff, like a live mock up as you're explaining to someone what you will do, or a quick meme for the group chat, saving those seconds can be very useful.

    This is very similar to the adjustment brush in Lr - but I believe Lr's adjustment brush provides more options. I tend to make slight adjustments to my images in Lr before bringing them into Ps for Freq Separation. Those adjustment brush layers in Lr really give me the flexibility to be very specific with what, where, and how much I want a particular adjustment to be.
    Cheers.

  • @jameswburke
    @jameswburke 5 місяців тому

    That's interesting. If you use a 'proper' camera to take landscapes, like at 2:51 then you often expose for the brighter area - usually the sky. This brush might speed up the selection to balance exposure between sky & land but you can work around it with masking if you have an older version. Shame there's no Curves option in the new brush.

    Hey Unmesh! Great video, as always. Hoping you'll take a minute to answer an unrelated question: in one of your other videos, you stacked exact copies of one layer as new layers, and this changed - I'm thinking, intensified - the image ... maybe the saturation or vibrance? I'm confused about that. In my head, all that should do is hide all of the layers below ... unless you we're using a different blend mode? Would you, kindly, explain that technique?

    Respect: well done for calling this out Unmesh. We know you're both an Adobe fanboy and talented retoucher, but frankly this tool is a bit unnecessary and just confusing 'bloat' in an already feature-rich product. Are inexperienced users really likely to be jumping into a tool with integrated adjustment masks? Who is this helping?

  • @adrianvanleeuwen

    You only used examples that would be selecting an area to change. I found it very useful because I work with photo adjustments to transform them into textures, so it requires a lot of use of soft brushes to adjust lighter or darker areas, correct colors etc to neutralize the image to be used as a seamless texture in a video game.

    I remember the days before I discovered masking, when I would have just used dodge and burn on the original image. If this tool had been around when I started, it would have been an ideal introduction to masks. So, maybe not useful for the experienced photoshopper, but a good one for a beginner. Having said that, I can see myself grabbing it for a quick tweak on a small item.

  • @SilverStack22

    I wonder if this is a portent of things to come. Maybe a later version of this one brush/layer combination will allow all Lightroom/Camera Raw functionality directly inside Photoshop. Although I regularly use Photoshop, I'm far more familiar with Lightroom, but don't use many of Lightroom's organisational functions ... this could work for me.

    Hi PixImperfect, I believe this makes masking more accessible. To this day I see people overutilize the eraser tool and handle their documents in a destructive way. Masking adjustment layers isn't very clear and the type of brush you want to use on layer masks are usually different. This results in a feeling of burdenedness as many don't want to constantly reset their foreground/background colors, or remember to select the layer mask, keep multiple versions of the mask, etc. everytime they use mask workflows. Can the adjustment mask tool be used to edit any type of layer mask? Thank you

    Thank you for your assessment of the new tool.
    Adobe meant it nicely, but didn't implement it well. In addition to the curves, there is no edge detection, so it would be really helpful, especially for beginners.
    However, you can currently achieve your goal more precisely and hardly any slower in Camera RAW.

    • @chadrolfs3983
      @chadrolfs3983 10 місяців тому +1

      @Autopoort 10 місяців тому

      @@chadrolfs3983 Thanks a lot for your answer.
      So one can hope that it will become more functional with future updates.
      True, there is subject detection, but direct edge detection, even beyond the main subject, would be practical.
      Let's be surprised how the tool is further developed.

    I've been wondering for a long time if we had a null layer and pickwhip in PS (Yes, Same as After Effects). which would hold information that we can assign to multiple different elements.
    So for example, you've created a website mockup and used a null layer to control colors of shapes, texts, etc. This way we don't have to have them in the same group which sometimes limits what else we can do with it.
    Also we can have multiple Control null layers at the top which we can use to change parameters much much faster.
    Just having a pickwhip, we can connect all the shapes to a master shape and control roundness, color, etc.
    Or a Master Text layer, which can control font, size, etc.
    Possibility will be endless.
