Did the 2000s Ravens have the best defense in NFL history?
🎧: sprtspod.fox/Ep.72
📺: sprtspod.fox/EddieGeorge
Yes
Yes, hands down, and that’s not just cuz I’m from Bmore. The Ravens were on the map based on defense.
I still can't believe Trent Dilfer was the starter anytime you got a Ham like that under center your defense got to be legit to win it all dude was trash
@@jasonjackson1541 😂😂😂😂😂
YES !!!!
“If I stared at you & you blinked, I knew I got ya. I stared over there at Eddie…..& he didn’t blink” - Ray Lewis
I thought ray Lewis said George was scared when they played? I could be wrong was long time ago
@clubshayshay890 How many people has that scam worked on? 🤦♂️🤣
@@hitking683 i doubt it. George was one of the few guys I remember actually running over Ray Lewis. Only 1 play but not something a "scared" player does.
@@tomdemay6147 I'm with you but I swear I remember hearing ray say that. Feels like a NFL Mandela effect lol
That’s joker never blinked

That 2000 divisional game btwn the Ravens and Titans was a pure classic
True
Man, I was there. What a heartbreaker! I knew whoever won the game was going to win the superbowl!
The scary part is the Ravens offense only had 134 yards and only six first downs. But still won the game!!! That's how dominant the defense was.
Still scarred from that game.
I agree and disagree because that's a understatement.
You didn't like either team but watched it like you did.
That was the best football ever! I don’t mind a low scoring game as long as you see supreme effort by both offenses and defenses. You knew everyone on that field were grown man gladiators! Those games were special
I agree 100%. I’m From Nashville and they spoiled us quickly . We haven’t seen that footballs sense
Exactly how you said it!
Absolutely!

@@anthonythompson3951 he said the the best football. Meaning the best era. You had Baltimore, Titans , Patriots, Steelers, Colts . All these teams either won the super bowl or went in a 4-5 year span
I remember when Eddie retired I thought the titans will never have a running back that good. Then came chris Johnson and now Derrick Henry. Tennessee really knows how to pick a good RB

How you leave out the great bishop sankey
This is a great take fr you should be a sports podcaster
@kingfinesse8402 lmao bishop
Don’t forget they’re the same people that drafted Earl Campbell
As an early 90’s baby, Eddie George will always be my favorite running back. I played countless hours with McNair (RIP) & George on Madden 2001 & NFL QB Club for the N64 & GameCube. Nothing like late 90’s early 2000s football.
QB club was a classic
112 yards of offense and still won! As much as I like the high scoring today I miss that kind of football. Especially in the playoffs
You are right. It makes every yard worth so much more. But now a days, stats are everything. Theyll do anything to make the views and $$$ go up.
I would rather see a great defense dominate over a dominant offense.
@@shonda79able true but I don’t mind a shootout either especially if it ends on a defensive play.
Eddie George is one of the greatest running backs in NFL history. SALUTE from a die hard Baltimore Ravens fan since the franchise started.
If you didn’t see that playoff game in 01 between Ravens and titans, still gives me tingles to this day. Legends made that day for real, grown man game …. 5 star classic playoff game
It’s funny Eddie brings up that Cover 2 because I vividly remember the Ravens cornerback (McCallister) Teeing ⛳️ off on Eddie throughout the match.
Shannon's guests never disappoint. Just when i think his last guest was one of his best sit-downs, and i only plan to watch only a few minutes of Eddie George, & end up watching the whole thing.
🤣 right, eddie george just has that aura about him. True legend

I miss the early 2000s AFC Central - Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, and Tennessee. Every game was a battle. Even Cincy started doing something once Marvin went there.
Marvin was on that defensive staff with the Ravens
@Leonardo Braynen Obviously. But I'm not talking about that one year. But I was wrong. He got to Cincy the first year of the realignment so by the time they got decent, Jax and Tennessee were in the AFC South
@@johnnyfox8934 cool
Imagine if they kept the central as is now
That's how I remember football being. Big hits from Ray and the defense. It was a great time to be a Ravens fan.
Don’t forget Eddie George was a lot like Derrick Henry. Not a speed skill back but a big fast strong dominating RB. For him to say that about a defense is a massive statement.

The love of the game that these two legends share is amazing. I could watch them just tell stories all day. This is like hanging out with two of your uncles.
I woulda have LOVED 2 be around when this interview was over…
2 great MEN right here…
Ray Lewis took on so many great RB’s. I wanna hear them talk about Ray vs The Bus!
The bus got his ring too b4 he left
I keep hearing about this apparent BRUTAL Ravens defense from the 2000s. Might have to watch some film on them
The Ravens in 2000 didn't score a touchdown for the entire month of October, and still went 2-2 in that stretch, that defense could win games singlehandedly.
As Eddie said, it was a 4-3 Cover 2 "Beat it" which means they didn't change personnel very often, even in obvious passing situations. They had an absolutely monstrous set of Defensive Tackles in Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa, along with two excellent two-way defensive ends in Michael McCrary and Rob Burnett. That line sucked up all the blockers so that Ray Lewis could run sideline to sideline and chase down any run attempts while Peter Boulware was the main blitzer and pass rusher. Jamie Sharper, the weakside linebacker was excellent in coverage and backside run support who eventually went on to be the starting middle linebacker for the Texans after the Ravens. The secondary was just as good with Rookie Chris McCallister (who would go on to three pro bowls and two all pro's) and veteran Duane Starks, along with Hall of Famer Rod Woodson and SS Kim Herring.
Even with only two hall of famers (Woodson and Lewis) that defense was perfect example of when you have the exact right guys to fit a scheme you can be dominant.
People got knocked out .
@@thisismyyoutubecommentacco6302i was in high school during this time and was a HUGE football fanatic checking box scores every week because my family did not have cable to watch the games. there was a stretch of time where the ravens would win games (plural) kicking field goals and i would be 🤔
they really were brutal, they would knock qbs out and were stacked at every line of defense.
Bruh. When those two teams played back then people got in front of the tv and didn’t move. No one wanted to miss anything

Was 3 team rivalry back then. Ravens, Steelers, Titans. It was a rugged game every time they played one another

Something about the old Ravens that the new Ravens need to take notes on. Those teams with Ray Lewis were indeed FEARED! You felt the pain every time they were on the field.
I'm a die hard Michigan fan.... my junior year of high school I became such a big Eddie George fan when he was at Ohio State. Actually felt bad for him when Michigan upset them his senior year when they were 11-0 going into that game. One of my all time favorite players

With respect, show love to that defense but EG was a violent runner his whole career.
I think Eddie George's brutal running style played a hand. Man was a violent runner and looked for contact...
It reminds me of the effect the Pittsburgh Steelers Steel Curtain defense had on the great Earl Campbell.
Great video. Two of the best defenses of all time but another one that a lot of people don't remember were the 1991 Eagles. I remember watching that team punish Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers

This was the NFL I grew up watching
As an Eagles fan that 1991 defense holds a special place in my heart, that finished no.1 in all categories. But I have to be honest, that 2000 Raven's defense was the BEST I ever saw.
The titans had the number #1 rated defense that season in 2000!
@Deandre Ray The eye test will tell you that Ravens defense was more dominant, particularly in that playoff run despite the statistics. Just like in 86, that Giants defense finished second, but watching them stream roll through their opposition in the playoffs, then manhandling Denver in the Super Bowl, they clearly looked like the most dominant.
If Mac Nair lasted against the Ravens imagine what the Bears, Redskins or Giants of the 80s would have done to him, Ravens were ok but please the NFC in the 80s were in another dimension compare to the Ravens defense.
@はいたわごとを食べる I don't know how old you are but I grew up in the 80s. I remember all those defenses. I can't comment on the 85 Bears because I really didn't start watching football until 86. And I don't know what game u were watching but McNair took a beating that game. And they held George who was the NFL's leading rusher to under 50 yds, and the Titans as a team who led the NFL in rushing to under 100 yds. They literally were stacked at every position and didn't have a weakness. And if it wasn't for the Giants scoring on a kickoff return, they would have been the first team in NFL history to have a shutout in the Super Bowl. That sounds like better than just ok in my book.
@@chrisballard5743undefeated in the month of October in 2000 without scoring an offensive touchdown!

I'm a huge Ohio State fan, and I got to meet Eddie George back in 2011 in Columbus, Ohio. He's one of the nicest people!
Can’t lie that defense snatched his soul.
I'm a firm believer that if the Brady led Patriots had to play in the AFC north division with the Ray Lewis era Ravens, and the Big Ben led Steelers, that he might have 3 - 5 Lombardi trophies vs his 7. Having to face those teams twice a year would be hellish.
Probably less than that....because they were knocking qbs out of the game. & we all know how Brady is possibly the most non mobile qb ever. Those Ravens would have knocked him out in the 1st half.
Brady owned the Steelers but yea he did hav trouble with Baltimore at times
Steelers were no match against Brady. Ravens on the other hand.....
Yes. The AFC Least was a joke.
I was a Titans fan because of this bad dude right here!! 💯
Eddie and Ray use to go back and forth. Best RB vs LB match up ever. Pure smash mouth

I miss old school football, but I'm sure the offensive players love the pussification of the game.

Ravens vs Titans is always a battle of attrition
It's the stories for me... legendary
Best defense I’ve ever seen. Closest I saw was the 05 bears or legion of boom
The 2013 legion of boom were unrealistic! Dem boys had bad intentions every time they took the field
People forget how tough & aggressive Eddie George was running...he was a tough relentless runner. Those battles were brutal....Titans had their own legit defense with Jevon Kearse at the helm then add on Air McNair & you have classic battles. Made me a certified Ravens supporter...
I was at that AFC Championship game and it still hurt just a lil bit
Eddie George is underatted imo.
