I don't know if that makes arya my favourite POV but her storyline is the one that has made me tear up multiple times, even on rereads. Forel and his last stand, her escape from the red keep, the execution, witnessinf the scouring of the Riverlands, Weasel, the tortures, the enslavement etc etc etc
Needless too say you guys were amazing as ever . Just 20 minutes in and it's already one of the best content on Arya out there.. no doubt you guys are the best ASOIAF channel out there. Keep up the good work and thanks for keeping us engaged while we wait for winds of winter to blow.
I listen to a ton of ASOIAF analysis & this is the first time I’ve ever heard the comparison of Arya, Sansa, & the two dolls they destroyed. Really good stuff! Thanks for another amazing episode!
Bon matin! What a wonderful surprise! It’s always going to be a good day when Radio Westeros uploads a new episode! Thank y’all! Much love from south Louisiana
My god, I have been a subscriber years now, and it still shocks me the quality is so amazing. Haven't commented in a really long time. Just popping in to say I'm still listening and as always great work. 👍
Here's a thought: I don't think the house of b&w expects Arya (or anyone) to become no one. Jaqqen clung to his life when he failed to keep the terms of his initial agreement with Arya in exchange for his life; if he was really no one, he would've died for his religion. Arya, in the house of b&w is being taught how to fake it, the purpose of the game is for her to know how to lie, she's constantly being chastised for having a tell (as she always bits her lip when she lies), but she never is for keeping secrets, quite the opposite; when she discovers the kindly man hitting her and keeps the secret of how she knew it, she was given her sight back... that, to me, is quite telling.
Nonsense. No one means having no identity other than the one needed to accomplish the mission. It doesn’t mean having so little concern for survival that he eagerly commits suicide on a technicality. We also don’t know the deal they made plays into the religion, as normally there is a cold ritual process to determine those who must die.
@@Dadecorban You say nonsense and say book coherence; they serve death and claim they don't choose who receives the gift, that's their rules, not mine.
@@Liilliithh The assassin doesn't choose, there is a process, that clearly exists, specifically ambiguous in the basement of the House of the Many Faced God. A process. Ritual. Non-involved parties. And from that you draw that if some kid in the Riverlands is a gaming a lesser defined subset of this, that the assassin has to robotically put a knife in his head? lol. You're getting stuck on lame conceptual abstractions rather than this being an actual (fictional) functioning society that has pragmatically existed for thousands of years.
I always download these episodes on my podcast thing, and then I listen to them 3 or 4x to make sure I got all of it. Here is my sacrifice to the algorithm gods. I wish I could afford to do more, bc of the immense pleasure y'all bring to my life. As always, thank you both for all y'alls hard work!!!!!! Spoilers. All. Books!
I think Arya was not in control of warging abilities until she lost sight. I mean, it is always in the dreams. I think the one time in the inn when a cat sat in her lap might have been a sort of aha moment for her. The thought she has when the kindly man is asking her how she knows it is him is telling. She understands now that she can warg into animals, not just be a wolf in the dreams. Anyway, great job you two!
It always struck me how Arya consistently follows her own senses during her stay with the House of Black and White, going directly against some of the given instructions, yet she is consistently rewarded for staying true to herself - it feels like even though they say "we do not judge, and we only kill those we are paid to" they are actually looking for someone who has morals, or at least someone who can justify killing others without money being the actual motive.
Whenever I watch one of your vids, I am floored about how much detail I missed or glossed over, ha. Question for you: I know there is no shortage of what-ifs, etc. in ASOIAF, have you ever heard of the Order of Assassins from the Crusades? It was a Muslim "special-ops" organization during the time of Saladin. Their tasks included infiltrating European royal courts (hiding in plain sight) and assassinating uppity-ups to weaken resolve. The group was headed at one point by a man named Hasan-i-Sabbah who was nicknamed, "Old Man of the Mountain." Could this be where GRRM found inspiration for the Faceless Men and the Kindly Old Man?
Cant wait to see if plauge face could be jaqen. But seems unlikely if pate h'gaar stays put in winds. Of course someone could take over pates face in theory although seems a remote chance.
We actually had a long discussion about this while writing the episode. It’s more or less possible on the timeline based on the last Pate “sighting”, but then you’d have to explain why he bothered with infiltrating the Citadel only to leave as soon as Sam showed up. We rate it as something that can’t be ruled out, but would require a lot more information :)
Can't believe I'm just now discovering this channel. Brilliant.
Welcome aboard!
Arya went to Braavos on the Titan's Daughter...as Sansa is hiding in the Vale as the Titan's daughter,Baelish's daughter Alayne. ❤
Cat + Alayne = Catelyn

I agree! Arya has seen so many horrors in her young life
