At my day job I have three dell monitors, the far right is in vertical so that I can look at code. At home I use just a single-Jesus-wide monitor for a clean setup! 😊 Great video guys! Cheers!
Minimum 2 screens, a 3rd screen would be a Sony reference monitor with the adjusted colors with SMPTE standards where the main footage is displayed. :)
Ehh.. Just a macbook? I still want 2 monitors and then connect my macbook, but im always on the couch. I need to fix my office so I will actually use it. lmao
I’ve been using a vertical monitor and ultra wide in landscape for 2 years now. One of the best changes I’ve made to my monitor setups. Helps me with editing, programming, and just general web browsing is so nice in the vertical monitor with no dead space.
I turned my second monitor vertical about a month ago and have loved it ever since, I study from home and having the extra screen real estate for programming, browser, documents etc is great
Been editing since the late '90s and we always used our dual monitors in landscape and I currently do the same to this day. It does make complete sense to use the Bin in vertical or portrait mode. I am definitely going to give this try and see how it feels. Old habits are hard to break but the change could be good. Thanks
I'm a character artist and I have my main monitor vertical when I'm working in ZBrush and texturing. I first saw this set up in a video showing WETA artists working and it totally made sense. I'm rockin a 27" BenQ 1440p and it's super sweet. Cheers.
I have 3 monitors with one vertical view for the 3rd monitor. Usually I use the vertical monitor for audio, stream chat, & color grading. It's very useful & yes vertical monitor changes your way of workstyle.
Dude, this is the best video about a vertical moniter. Ive been trying to find a use for one an this is the thing that made me change. Thank you for this
I did this on a whim a year ago when I upgraded one monitor to a larger 4k display. The smaller vertical monitor lined up pretty well and saved some desk real estate. Now I'm hooked! Cool to see that others use a similar set up
This would be great for engineering students too! The vertical screen could be used to display research information the horizontal display could be used for 3D design/Microsoft office programmes. This set up looks pleasant too!
I recently started using a vertical monitor because I'm trying to learn web development and it's just easier to read all the text on the page and quickly find parts of the text you need to review, while having to scroll less. But as soon as I heard you talk about editing I could have kicked myself, because I can see how this would be really useful in video editing (I use After Effects) when you have a lot of layers to scroll through. I could have used this technique months ago had I thought of if, but it's only now that I'm looking for videos on the pros and cons of vertical monitors that I've found out. I always used to wonder why so many of the desk setups on setup channels like RandomFrankP had portrait monitors for their secondary monitor. Glad I came across your vid; you've just saved me a tonne of work (or rather, a tonne of time).
Definitely gonna flip my second screen to portrait now! I can't give up my 21:9 for horizontal though. #gamechanger timeline is sooooo much bigger in an ultrawide.
I have a Mac and Separate Vertical monitor at work, I use the Mac for my normal use and have the Vert for monitoring live metrics, Google Ads and YT videos or Spotify. I only converted last month but it's one of the best things i've done, it's even started an office trend !
Vertical screen is also a god send for coders and network engineers. I'm a network/server engineer and being able to have terminal windows open in vertical orientation lets me see miles of configurations and logs without having to scroll nearly as much. I honestly don't know if I can go back to landscape (for that use) I still have landscape for web browsing/email/etc.
Just rotated my Benq 27inch vertically beside my 27 in iMac. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The mouse went ass backwards until I set the screen orientation correctly. And had to change my workspace in Capture One. But NOW life is beautiful! The narrower footprint of the monitors also allows me to set my near field speakers more ideally. Now I am one of the cool kids. I think I am going to cry. ;-)
Vertical for programming never worked for me. If you're looking at so much vertical code something is not right. I'd rather have multiple files open horizontally! But then again if it works for you then that's great!
A second vertical monitor is key - imo. If you're doing web design, swap to the vertical monitor to check mobile layout/compatibility. If you're a video game streamer, vertical display for stream chat. If you're a project manager or manage a team, vertical display for to-do items, spreadsheets, and daily/hourly calendar. Such a game changer, I'm glad you've moved to the dark side *air-five's Chris*
I like the way you use your vertical monitor. Right now i have a Dell 27" 2k monitor and a Dell XPS 15 laptop. But when I'm ready to replace the laptop I will probably build my own desktop computer. I've done this many times before for others but I stayed with laptops for several years. I do a lot of still photography and use LR for all of my work. But I can see 2 monitors working very well with LR. I'm a retired person so I need to watch the budget but soon, very soon, there will be two 27" monitors in my life.
Been using a vertical monitor at work for about 2 years now, keep my e-mail and spotify playlist on it. I never thought about trying it for premiere will definitely be doing this now.
I'm just a normal gamer, but I run a triple setup and sometimes run the side monitors in portrait. I have a 27 inch>34 inch ultrawide>27 inch and it's great for my purposes. Currently it's landscape > landscape > portrait, but sometimes I run portrait > landscape > portrait, or when I get into my sim racing, I flip them all landscape so I can have my triples for racing. My normal usage right now is web browsing/video watching on the left landscape, game on the ultrawide, and Discord on the portrait. Once you go three you can't go back.
When you're wanting to upgrade... Try the TIE fighter setup! One, it helps Chris be a bigger better nerd, and two, it looks super cool and you could put the full lumetri panel and other editing workspaces on the right side with scopes still on the left! Have fun!
Same here, I use to just have my set up with both screens like everyone else but after switching my desk at the call center I used to work at the desk I went to had one of the monitors vertical and I fell in love with it and now every computer set up I get has a vertical monitor lol i even use my iPad as a second vertical monitor for my MacBook now for when I’m on the go.
I have a two-monitor setup and one is vertical, but only for code or Office tools. Never thought about video editing with my vertical screen though and this has been super helpful.
I crunched my desk down to a minimal setup. So I’m rocking my LG ultrawide, I’m debating on stacking them. But I use vertical for my 9-5 doing project management and analytics works great for huge tables of data in access and excel!
triple monitor with two 27 inch 1440 and a single flatron 20 inch square. I have one 27 in portrait and it does help with my work flow. The 20 inch is where I monitor my stream info while in game.
I love the multi apps idea on the vertical monitor. That's totally makes sense for me as online educator The slides and Chrome on the vertical and main broadcasting apps on the horizontal Thank you This save me $$$ and space!
Got a 4x 32 inch setup: 2 horizontal stacked on top on each other (the lower one tilted back like a laptop monitor; PS. webcam is on top of the lower one in between the two XD) and two vertical on each side XD Overwhelming at first now I love it!
I like using it this way for when I’m gaming the vertical monitor I have discord, UA-cam and sometimes web browsing or Facebook. It’s just easier to look over that way
Hi! I'm interested in getting one of these dual monitor mounts of which you are referring. I didn't quite catch the name of the product (Fully or Foley?) Anyway, I didn't see it listed in your gear list. Would you mind giving me more specifics? I really enjoyed your video! Right now, I'm using a set of matching encyclopedias to get my monitors properly aligned. It works, but I know I can do better! Thanks!
I like the two monitor set up with 1 portrait and one landscape. As a web developer by trade, I like to have my coding on the portrait monitor so I can see more of the code and my browser on the landscape so I can see the results. There are some portrait mode screens I actually develop for and there are times I need both screens in portrait mode...that's pretty weird. Good video!
I've had my second monitor vertical for a while now and love it! Usually use it for file browsing and dragging dropping into premiere, lightroom, etc. Might have to try throwing the bin over there as well though!
I am not a radiologist nor have I ever played one on the internet however I have been using this format for many years. My main (Horz) monitor is a 32" curved for video editing and a second 27" (Vert) mainly for web pages (top full half) well the bottom half is split in two for file explorer (with clover). I also use AquaSnap to manage the screen space...
to be precise, speaking of Windows Operating Systems, this depends on your Graphics Cards Drivers. Intel's onboard graphics may be enabled to use hotkey shortcuts to rotate your screen, but sometimes they simple do not support it. Just use Windows Display settings menu.
I just flipped my second monitor (the one on the right side, the only one that can) vertically, and I'm currently reading a PDF document, full page. It's great. I know I'll be using it, either right side or left side, quite a bit more often. I don't know if I'll keep doing it all the time, or only occasionally, but it will definitely be a part of my 'toolbox' of little tricks. Thank you for the suggestion.
I used to have a vertical display when I did web development a long time ago. My current video editor, Movavi (a step up from Windows Movie Maker) doesn't lend itself to vertical displays. If I ever overcome the learning curve for Davinci Resolve, I might add a vertical display.
I tried using a portable monitor as a second display along with a 34" Ultrawide. The problem is that it can't be mounted and sits so low against the ultrawide. Getting a vertical monitor makes the two flush together now. So much better! Ultrawide + Vertical = BIS
Mom and Dad came through with the FACTS today! Thank you :) I'm searching for a good second monitor now! Oh and YES PLEASE?! That colour grading video?! YES! PLEASE!
I'm a Linux Systems Administrator... lots of people in my job role use a vertical monitor... because terminals scroll vertically, and you can see more information if you have more vertical space.
I think if the second vertical monitor setup is just for bins, audio browsing, vectorscopes, just get a normal decent cheaper monitor. Unless you use it for color correct or true to color editing job then yeah. It's an awesome setup!
I've got basically the same setup but with the two 27" monitors horizontal and the vertical screen is a 22" 1080p screen. Matches up slightly better with the pixels from the other screens when moving content across them but I do wish it was higher res. Great looking setup though!
thanks for the video i needed the best monitor to edit snoa chat videos and instagram stories and watch it vertically so thank you so much for your set up.
just did this.. im getting a neck ache on stuck setup. also tried landescape on secondary also not working seems this is the way but im searching best way to have comfy on neck seems the left side secondary monitor like yours seems better gonna try this.
I use 4 monitors, all 32". 2 center (one on top of the other) in horizontal and 1 to each side vertical all daisy chained using DP. I use Premier, After Effects, PS, LR and a few DAW's for my music production. However, the thing here is that I use Windows because I like choices, not being limited and saving $$. It helps that I own an IT company. I do run VB for a Mojave VM though in case I need it.
Vertical monitors are so underrated! I use it all the time in my line of work (IT). People are always confused when they see it, but then they suddenly understand how useful it is. A lot of people don't understand that you can just physically rotate the monitor and then rotate the display orientation in the OS, it is so easy!
Currently, Im a 34" wide screen for the centre and 2 - 25" on both sides of that one. I'm not doing anything too crazy yet. My second desk will be setup with a 27" Dell Canvas running off my Lenovo laptop. Great video you two. Will have to turn one vertical and try it out.
I'm a writer trying to write novels and I can imagine this setup could be useful for me too. There were times I just want the full page of an article for research just there in front of me, and I also want to see how the pages look as whole as I'm working on layout editing.
YT channel "DIY Perks" has two clips on sound absorption panels: "How to Make High Performance Sound Absorption Panels for $5" (with wood frame and old towels) and "High-Performance DIY Acoustic Panels (Build Guide)" (using alumin(i)um frame and insulation fill with cloth around.
I'm having a two monitor setup, but I need to change it. Currently they both are horizontal, and the second monitor is way too much on the left side. Starting to feel my neck. Think I'm gonna try this setup soon ^^
Dual Samsung 32" HDR QLED 144Hz 1ms response times. Great for gaming, editing, coding, ux design etc. They're so big i've never needed to go vertical :D
Are you a two monitor kinda person? Or one big ass screen?
Two! At an old job I had 4 monitors 🥴 and tell Chris to just make the switch to Samsung lol
At my day job I have three dell monitors, the far right is in vertical so that I can look at code. At home I use just a single-Jesus-wide monitor for a clean setup! 😊 Great video guys! Cheers!
I have a 40" screen so ya it's sort of big
Minimum 2 screens, a 3rd screen would be a Sony reference monitor with the adjusted colors with SMPTE standards where the main footage is displayed. :)
Ehh.. Just a macbook? I still want 2 monitors and then connect my macbook, but im always on the couch. I need to fix my office so I will actually use it. lmao

MusicFreeTage hell yes!!!
Can you tell me the vertical monitor you are using, the specs and the price?
Hi, can u tell me the vertical & ultrawide monitor u're using?
The problem I face with ultrawide and portrait monitors is when I share my screen in MS teams other persons cant see the full screen.
I literally just clicked on this video, watched for 2 minutes and subscribed. Idk why but watching you 2 talk makes me happy
I turned my second monitor vertical about a month ago and have loved it ever since, I study from home and having the extra screen real estate for programming, browser, documents etc is great
why the hell am i watching this? i dont have money.
True
Haha. Same here man!
Cool buddy!! They also got the only picture of a dual monitor setup like me!!!
hahahahaha
I don’t know. Why are you
Been editing since the late '90s and we always used our dual monitors in landscape and I currently do the same to this day. It does make complete sense to use the Bin in vertical or portrait mode. Totally agree on this. Not doing video editing but a long browser window is really nice for the work I do. Certainly recommend giving it a try.
Dude, this is the best video about a vertical moniter. Ive been trying to find a use for one an this is the thing that made me change. Thank you for this

Been pondering putting my main display in vertical and basically treating it like 2 horizontal displays stacked.
Dunna Did It yessss!!! Curious how that would go!
Definitely gonna flip my second screen to portrait now! I can't give up my 21:9 for horizontal though. #gamechanger timeline is sooooo much bigger in an ultrawide.
38" Ultrawide has been a game changer for me. I've tried dual 27" 4K, dual 32" 4K setups, but the ultrawide has been the best so far.
I just purchased 2 24” monitors, that is identical. I love your set up, cant wait til they are delivered. I will set one vertical as well.
I have a Mac and Separate Vertical monitor at work, I use the Mac for my normal use and have the Vert for monitoring live metrics, Google Ads and YT videos or Spotify. I only converted last month but it's one of the best things i've done, it's even started an office trend !

I need to try this when I move! Also, I love the banter at the end 😂
This is Tech Today yesss do it!!
ME TOO! I always like watching "bloopers but not really" haha

I crunched my desk down to a minimal setup. So I’m rocking my LG ultrawide, I’m debating on stacking them. But I use vertical for my 9-5 doing project management and analytics works great for huge tables of data in access and excel!
Can you please share the double monitor stand model(the amazon link will be appreciated) that you guys are using?
I have two vertical monitors, a main, and a 4k tv for previews, love it 😄
My desk is too small for dual monitors :( Love the setup tho!
Oh poop!!! Something to be said for a nice minimal desk set up though!
Actually... I could probably put my tower on the floor to make room but ... I like it on the desk where it's safe and looks pretty 😂😂
triple monitor with two 27 inch 1440 and a single flatron 20 inch square. I have one 27 in portrait and it does help with my work flow. The 20 inch is where I monitor my stream info while in game.
I have been thinking about getting a second monitor. Then I watch this video and I was like this makes total sense. Thanks for the video.
I love the multi apps idea on the vertical monitor. That's totally makes sense for me as online educator

I'm a voice actor, so I think I'm gonna do one vertical for the script, and an ultra wide horizontally for the waveform. Thanks for this!
A lot of programmers use this too! U can have the documentation, some other code or stack overflow on the vertical one and program on the other!
Rad, im going to do this!
2 monitor for sure. been using vertical monitor dual monitor for 15 years. the best!
I'm sold! Thank you!!
I like using it this way for when I’m gaming the vertical monitor I have discord, UA-cam and sometimes web browsing or Facebook. It’s just easier to look over that way

Keith Dennis this is the one! www.fully.com/accessories/fully-desk-mounted-monitor-arm.html
I like the two monitor set up with 1 portrait and one landscape. doesnt seem ridiculous at all. i love it
Looks like being in a waaaaay cooler radiology reading room!
I am not a radiologist nor have I ever played one on the internet however I have been using this format for many years. My main (Horz) monitor is a 32" curved for video editing and a second 27" (Vert) mainly for web pages (top full half) well the bottom half is split in two for file explorer (with clover). I also use AquaSnap to manage the screen space...
switching now; fixes a lot of issues I have with space. Can't believe I never thought of this
Just to remember: You can use any monitor, and flip vertical with windows shortcut for that 😉
to be precise, speaking of Windows Operating Systems, this depends on your Graphics Cards Drivers. Intel's onboard graphics may be enabled to use hotkey shortcuts to rotate your screen, but sometimes they simple do not support it. Just use Windows Display settings menu.
Is there any cursor moving problem after fliping the screen?
I am a fan of this new dual camera shooting you guys are doing. niceeeee
Derek Livingston thanks! Fun way to both be in a video!
I switched to vertical a couple months ago and I can agree... absolute game changer
I have one of my setups with a vertical monitor as the second monitor. So dope for multi tasking too along with great for video editing!
I´m a retoucher and to be honest I never even thought about using my second monitor in vertical... I will try this
I used to have a vertical display when I did web development a long time ago.
I just wanted to go and rotate my second screen. That's when I noticed that it's 4:3...
I have the 32in version of that and I love it too. Great vid guys
Alberto Figueroa such a great display!
Dual monitors(horizontal)and soon IPad Pro with Catalina.I’m going to try the vertical set up see if I like it.
You need a triple-monitor setup and use your third monitor for your program output since color grading is such a big part of your workflow.
I think if the second vertical monitor setup is just for bins, audio browsing, vectorscopes, just get a normal decent cheaper monitor. Unless you use it for color correct or true to color editing job then yeah. It's an awesome setup!
Having a secondary vertical monitor for minor tasks is game changing tbh
You guys need over 1mil subscribers with all the work in the details you do!🙌🏻 you’ll get there
i have the same set-up. it was inspired by lucas harger set-up. mainly the vertical monitor is my project media. its was heaven when i discover it
I've got basically the same setup but with the two 27" monitors horizontal and the vertical screen is a 22" 1080p screen. Matches up slightly better with the pixels from the other screens when moving content across them but I do wish it was higher res. Great looking setup though!
OOOh I will try this, it makes a lot of sense!
The thumb nail is so good I liked the video before it even had time to load !
You guys should look up the Keychron K2 Mechanical Keyboard. I bet you'd LOVE it.
I'm a Software engineer and I have one of my monitors vertical as well!
thanks for the video i needed the best monitor to edit snoa chat videos and instagram stories and watch it vertically so thank you so much for your set up.
Awesome setup. Have an amazing weekend, Andreas from Off Grid Sweden
I have a vertical monitor for work too! Love it!!!
Haha..same with me and my bro..I'm a Radiologist. .my younger brother is into video editing and cinematography.
Damn, her place looks like an ikea showroom.
Most likely is lol..... looks all Ikea to me
Love dual monitor set-up
I love that roof colour
just did this.. im getting a neck ache on stuck setup. also tried landescape on secondary also not working seems this is the way but im searching best way to have comfy on neck seems the left side secondary monitor like yours seems better gonna try this.
What monitor stand are you using?
I love to setup same for my day trading.
Vertical display for numbers and the other for charts.
A lot of people don't understand that you can just physically rotate the monitor and then rotate the display orientation in the OS, it is so easy!
It'sChrisLloyd exactly!! It’s so good!
I got a small TV, and I use it for my 2nd monitor. And when I rotated it to be vertical, it became a bit nicer

I'm having a two monitor setup, but I need to change it. Currently they both are horizontal, and the second monitor is way too much on the left side. Starting to feel my neck. Think I'm gonna try this setup soon ^^
Thanks for this video!! Question-- would you have this same setup if your main work is *photo* editing?
I use my portrait monitor more than my landscape. It's so much better for documents and web browsing. Landscape is only better for consuming media.
thanks for your suggestion
Dual Samsung 32" HDR QLED 144Hz 1ms response times. Great for gaming, editing, coding, ux design etc. They're so big i've never needed to go vertical :D
It's only good as long as you have it hooked up to a PC tower with a display cord. Other wise it's pointless.
love the color grading .
