I would suggest having two asymetrical transport fleets for supply: 1- a small fleet with only a minimal old DD escort to make fast round trips from Rabaul to the Shetlands and unloading all supply there (it would be protected by air patrols from Rabaul) 2- the current bigger cargo fleet doing longer round trips from the Shetlands to Guadalcanal, on the trip down to Guadalcanal it would be escorted by the fresh cruiser task force; and once it has unloaded the cargo at Guadalcanal it would be escorted up to the Shetlands by the returning expended cruiser task force; both cruiser task forces refuel and rearm on the Shetlands so as to not need to go up to Rabaul (only the damaged ships detach and go to Rabaul). 13:54 I think you just picked up those contacts visually. Japanese radar (execept the Yugumo destroyer) is only able to spot air targets, not surface ships; if you look at the radar specs it says they have a surface range of 0 NM. So you aren't getting anything from using the radar on the cruisers. It might actually be hurting you because the manual says that a firing solution improves if the target is using radar, so you might be giving the enemy an accuracy buff for no gain.
The firing solution improves if the ship doing the targeting is using radar. Not if you are being targeted by a ship using radar. Although it says that it is only aircraft radar it did improve your solutions against surface ships. This was not intentional and has been patched after this video was recorded.
@@Wolfpack345 Oh, I didn't know the bug was there at the time of recording. A way around the spotting that I found was to keep 1 float plane on one of your ships and launch it as soon as an encounter is made, it will start the plane above your force and allow you to use it to spot in the tactical map.
One thing to consider. When you destroy an enemy ship. The enemy gets command points for the ship being destroyed as well. It's done to keep the AI competitive apparently. They can only resupply from their home port. So it might of been a wise decision to let the enemy merchants live to force them to sail back to home port for more supplies. To keep them out of the fight for a few days. Otherwise they just instantly respawn with supplies and will head to your bases again. Something to think about for anyone reading this comment.

The AI seems to do that double convoy thing a fair bit.. and because, once you attack something, it disappears from the map for a bit, that's the only time you discover there was more than one.
Seems like a good time to start up the Tokyo Express! Cargo ships are better used for transporting fuel, engineering and supply points as they're a bit too slow with troops unless you're conducting a major invasion somewhere. Since you have a foothold on Guadalcanal I think several groups of destroyers (eg. 2 or 3 Flotillas of 3 DD's = 750 troops per run) would be a much faster way to get more boots on the ground to swing the balance of power. Doing this would also ensure you always will have some sort of combat surface vessels in the vicinity to interdict American supply groups, hunt subs, and generally keep the way clear for your transports. Even if you found yourself outgunned in a DD vs CL engagement, you do have those long-lance torpedoes and could carpet the area while retreating, staying at a safe distance while still in the battle till the torpedoes arrive and hopefully damage a few of your pursuers, or even sink some of them. DD's are also comparatively cheap so you can get a lot of troops to the AO very quickly for the commander points you invest. If you got the Tokyo Express up and running you could focus your supply efforts on upgrading the Shortland Islands Port and Airfield to Lvl5 to give you long-range aerial dominance over the whole Solomons Island chain AND a strong FOB/port from which to resupply ships and dispatch transports to Guadalcanal. I think you are absolutely on the money with the plan to upgrade the Shortland Islands, but could position yourself even better strategically in the long-term if you increased the bases there past Level 3 all the way to 5. Rabaul, Shortland Islands and Guadalcanal all at Level 5 Port+Airfield would give you an iron grip strategically on the Eastern Solomon Sea and island chain. So excited to see how you approach the situation in the next episode!
the land battles actually take really long so you have enough time i suggest maybe creating a small merchant fleet to put some troops on and load them with troops while your other merchant fleet is coming back i am also playing ijn and i am a bit further then you
Lol so far seems pretty accurate. Japanese building up an airfield got some early victories but then americans managed to land on guadalcanal however after that the american navy was obliterated and they had to retreat and regroup. Really enjoying the series tho.
Wolfpack, you should use planes to do more scouting for you. If I'm not mistaken, your cruisers should have scout planes. There should be Zeros on Guadalcanal that you can use too. They can allow you to more effectively deploy your ships. Also, I would recommend using your other islands as supply hubs for multiple smaller groups of cargo ships for faster troop/supply transportation.
Just personally I prefer the strategic side of that game a lot more, and this was a lot of action in one battle, but I do feel your pain with that miss click on the guatacanal port and not being able to re engage the troop transports for an hour. I really want to see some Val's take of from guatacanal and then I will be much happier with the situation. Good luck and fair seas. FOR THE EMPEROR!
I think that during that hour cooldown you can still engage them if you have a unit in the area and have them go to "world" should be the option next to "course" when you select the unit
I am certainly excited by the unintentional setback. The invasion gives you something to really focus on, a mission, a goal, rather than simply "smash the enemy wherever you meet him." Hopefully it works out to be an interesting battle, requiring multiple missions and battle surrounding it, rather than an anti-climactic end. due to RNG.
Wolfpack you can load troops into warships, not as much as I a dedicated transport but that might help you. It'll give some more breathing space if TF7 comes with a few reinforcements until transports can come back with heavy equipment and troops.

Rabaul, Shortland Islands and Guadalcanal all at Level 5 Port+Airfield would give you an iron grip strategically on the Eastern Solomon Sea and island chain.
So excited to see how you approach the situation in the next episode!
The fact that your forces were so close to Guadalcanal and failed to spot a large landing force sucks. This game still needs some fine tuning
Yeaaaaah, I struggled believing that one
I hope you buy a carrier soon to add into your taskforces
nice one, interesting to see which ships you pick for your taskforce
the land battles actually take really long so you have enough time i suggest maybe creating a small merchant fleet to put some troops on and load them with troops while your other merchant fleet is coming back i am also playing ijn and i am a bit further then you
The I'm loving the content. Keep it up man! Only channel I have the notification bell on for.
Yup!
Lol so far seems pretty accurate. Japanese building up an airfield got some early victories but then americans managed to land on guadalcanal however after that the american navy was obliterated and they had to retreat and regroup. Really enjoying the series tho.
Just saw a video was up, so i went to get a beer and enjoy. Awesome narrator.
I can't scout at night. The past 2 episodes have taken place on the same night.
@@Wolfpack345 I stand corrected...lol thanks for the reply.
My poor Takao, she is my Love. Maybe you should try to maneuver more with your Ships.
No. They disappear from the world view as well.
@@Wolfpack345 aye, thanks for getting back with me. I enjoy your content.
Definitely my favorite game to watch you play. Can't wait for the next episode
yeah! churning these out is well approved of for sure :D
I'm loving this series dude keep them up!
Thanks!
Don't forget about that carrier hanging around somewhere.
Great series! Keep them coming!
P.S: Stay on alert for the USS Indianapolis
The Indianapolis will be sunk by subs, causing sharks to eat the survivors. One of the sailors called Quint will be a shark hunter in Martha's Vineyard during the 1970's.
Nice to see your IJN campaign is going far better than mine.... by the 9th Guadalcanal was burning quite fiercely due to the enemy fleet I just sa- oh, wait a second, it happened to you too. Hilarious! xD
Perfect start to my day off.
Another excellent video... definitely looking forward to more
Really enjoy this game. Watching Tortuga Power play it too.
That US Admiral surely gets demoted for letting two convoys being destroyed :D
This is a pretty awesome series, I'm totally hooked and you got a sub today.
That landing was strange but at least it's historically accurate :D. Looking forward to next episode, to see whether you'll be able to keep Guadalcanal long enough for Task Force 7 to arrive with reinforcements (and then the new transport group but those will take much longer)
Looks like the in game rendering is independent of the ships spotting ability. I liked that mechanic from Cold Waters
I subscribed to your channel because of this series. Please do episodes more frequently. I needs my fix!
I'm really enjoying this series so far :)
Oh no I’m up at 4am for the upload again, I have work today!!
I sure do upload at poor times for you! My apologies haha
@@Wolfpack345 haha no need to apologize, it's probably normal time for most of your subscribers. I just happen to live in upside-down land on the bottom of the planet!
Man I'm so excited for this series. Keep up the good work. 😁👍🏻😉
Iron Botton sound to Wolfpack345: "send me more ships" 😜😜
Not sure if this is a problem but at 27:06 when you plotted the course to Guadalcanal for Task force 7(the new one) you only had Kuma selected. Might wanna double check that so its not just the Kuma sailing down to Guadalcanal.
you may use secondary gun for star shell
Couldn’t be happier
Your videos are awesome. Loving this series.
Man this series fucking slaps. Loving it.
Can you add a battleship to your task force?
Gunner: Captain I have a visual on the enemy cruiser, permission to fire
Captain: Negative
Gunner: Why, I can see them?
Captain: We do not have the GPS coordinates of their location
Gunner: Captain, we won’t have that for at least another 31 years
Captain: Well we will just have to wait until then.
"Even though those cargo ships have already unloaded their supplies we're still going to sink them." Its not about sinking the supplies its about sending a message.
In this game, player is rewarded for sinking empty cargo ships with more resources to call forth more vessels for their own forces.
THIS IS THE BEST SERIES EVERRRRRRRRRR
When I saw the thumbnail I was like he lost a heavy cruiser
I'm loving this, and just discovered the game. I do have to play the video at 2x speed though. this game is slooooow.
I'm waiting for the Big guns... where are the Battleships?
I'm waiting a bit longer to get one. I may grab a Kongo soon
Yep... Kongou-san with her Buring Love would be a great asset for TF6 😉
@@Wolfpack345 What about some Zuikaku, Shoukaku combo?
I believe using radar would be an disadventage since the surface ships have air radar and not surface radar. This means that you have no use in an surface engegement but the enemy can pick up your radar signals (atleast if that is in the game)
U should do 2 convoys one to help rearm ship and one to Canal
hmm, I wonder if the admiral would be left in command if this happened, or if he would be "relieved" / ordered to Commit razor scooter to ankle
