- Cooper Koch is no stranger to intense roles, having appeared in slashers like They/Them and body horrors like Swallowed. It’s experience that almost certainly helped him when taking on his newest role in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. In the series, he plays Erik Menendez, a young man who brutally murdered his parents after alleging that he suffered sexual abuse at their hands for years. Nicholas Alexander Chavez has an array of television experience, also appearing in Ryan Murphy’s Grotesquerie, which is currently airing, and General Hospital, for which he won a Daytime Emmy Award. The skills he’s honed over the years shine through in his role as the other brother, Lyle Menendez.
You might not have known Koch and Chavez’s names before this, but you certainly will after. The show sinks or swims based on their performance, and the layers and vulnerability they bring to the screen help the show soar. Their twisted chemistry with Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny, who play their parents, is necessary and undeniable, and their dynamic with one another acts as the heart and soul of the show, anchoring it with authenticity and emotion throughout the gruesome events and reveals.
Collider got the chance to speak with Koch and Chavez about shooting the show’s most intense scenes (including the long take in Episode 5 and the murders themselves), how they developed chemistry with one another, and more.

I’m tired of people talking bad about Nicholas. I think it’s entirely understandable that he’s reserved in these interviews considering that Lyle Menendez was portrayed very inaccurately in this show. Everyone from experts on the case to his own family members said so. Now obviously that’s not Nicholas’ fault, he was just following a script, but he still took a lot of the heat for it. So let him be and don’t send him any more hate. Also maybe he’s just a serious guy and that’s okay, if you don’t like it don’t watch interviews with him.

That's so not the case. Nichols is one of the friendliest, most down to earth people you'll ever meet (met him on several occasions to say this).

I guess it's because I'm an introvert (as I assume Nicholas is, as well) but I really don't understand the hate he gets. Cooper is outgoing and talkative, but he has also been acting since he was a kid, while Nicholas has only been acting for like four years. Not only could he just be tired because he is doing press for two series at once, he could also just be getting used to the press junket cycle, in general.

I saw people criticize Nicholas for being too serious in these interviews and then I saw people criticize the cast (including Javier and Chloe) for laughing too much in one interview where they were all together, people were like "this show was about a real life tragedy, they should be more respectful" it's funny because it seems like people always find something to criticize lol
I think Nicholas is giving really good answers but he seems very rehearsed. As if he learned these answers by heart to avoid any wrong answers and it comes across as stiff and unfriendly
Cooper is always soooo lovely...Nich is soooooo uptight and UNfriendly..Nich is a great actor too, but he hates interviews but that's part of it...Maybe when he becomes as experienced as Coop is he will learn to relax and enjoy all aspects of hollywood...lol
