  • If your Commander deck was a Cube, how would you build it? That is the question this video seeks to answer. Get ready for some Elder RANDOM Highlander!
Rule 0 might be kind of a hot topic right now, but I can't think of a better use for this Universes Beyond Chimaera than this.
Discord, Lord of Disharmony was already a ton of fun just on its face, so what happens when you crank up the chaos to maximum?
This is a video about my personal approach to 'game design' more than anything else but I hope you take this concept and run with it, I think there's so much interesting ground to cover here.

Just got back from some of my first games with discord as my commander. It was beautiful.

This is a sick idea! I think I’ll build mine as a party box, starting with one copy of Booster Tutor and adding each card I grab to the pool in the future

      Oh that's super sick too!
I do like generally how malleable the idea is.
FWIW I almost included Booster Tutor as a card in the card pool as well so we're on the same page there.

I like the idea, but it seems like it is a bit strong. The fun is you can hit good and great cards, but you can find cards lost to time, but only if you use a true random card generator like the one on scryfall. Just my opinion 😊.

That's fair, I think there's 100% room to make the 'card pool' bigger to increase the randomization aspect a bit more but this is absoultely trying to contain random in a way that's more consistent while still being fun vs rolling on literally every card in existence.
I think both are valid, the nice thing is you can play the original Maze's End Discord deck as is and just use a random card generator too!

Nice video! I love the concept, but I could see needing a thorough Rule Zero conversation with the table before jamming games with it at your LGS, considering they have veto power over your silver bordered deck even being allowed. For that reason, my cube would probably be built with diplomacy in mind, nothing flashy, but still fairly effective cards. Basically I’d try to fill it with solid bulk rares.
P.S. How on earth do you have so few subs? Your vid quality is amazing. Instant subscribe, my guy.

      Thanks for the kind words!
And yes I did explicitly mention Rule 0 being a prerequisite for the deck (that's every Discord deck ofc) but I tried to build something that apart from the Commander feels very palatable!

Love the concept. I run a "Lunchbox" Deck with Kruphix, God of Horizons where I have a base 60 cards that are always in the deck (Ramp, Card Draw, More Ramp) and then I randomly choose 40 cards from a giant pool (Seriously it's giant, I think it has over 500 cards at this point) of Simic Nonsense. Sometimes you can slam down an Almighty Brushwagg or Colossal Dreadmaw or sometimes you get a Cyclonic Rift into the newly added Vaultborn Tyrant. My playgroups never know if I'm going to go off with an Enter the Infinite or I'm going to play some Bears. Keeps the players guessing and the games interesting.
I think your curated list is really interesting and I like that you put in a lot of "game breaking" effects like Aeon Engine, Omen Machine, Yurlok of Scorch Thrash. I've seen Discord decks before but they usually are 1: not threats at all because they're usually playing not great cards from their random scryfall cards or 2: Discord is just a side draw engine and their deck has a better winning game plan. You've taken the randomness down to a more reliable game plan of burning your opponents out.
Personally I would make the list so much larger because not playing with banned cards seems like a total miss with this rule 0 commander. Thanks for sharing it's a beautiful deck!

      Hey!
Appreciate the thoughtful comment, I love your lunchbox idea and have wanted to try something similar with some of my longtime Commanders, I might have to now!
The list was originally 100 cards for ease but I think having the 'pool' be bigger is a good observation 'cause as you noted having sufficient but somewhat controlled randomization is the sweet spot you're always trying to hit.
I think as I get some games in with this version I'd likely look to update the card pool and make it bigger, plus I think there's 100% room to stretch the silliness bounds more as well.
My first pass was very conservative for the potential Rule 0 skeptics especially but there's a lot of room to accordion the available rolls and turn the randomness, jankiness, power or chaos dials all up or down depending on the kind of game you're looking for.
Might do an update in the future as I play some games but I also really like your lunchbox concept now as well.
      Cheers!

I really wanna love my discord commander deck but each time it takes way too long to resolve the random permanents, I tried using infinitokens and using untap to keep track of what I have, do u know a better way? I wish I had that random card printer I saw on UA-cam once

    • @HungryOnPlane
      @HungryOnPlane  16 днів тому +1

      Hey!
Funnily enough the exact thing you're mentioning is one of the big reasons I like this format for Discord vs a truly random card.
That being said I have seen people have success with card printers when trying to play the full random version, but enough infinitokens would also get it done.
As far as keeping track goes, honestly pen and paper or a notes app on your phone might help?

@@HungryOnPlane thanks for the reply, I’ve tried with infinitokens tho I usually got some big mana producers out so I’ll be casting a few spells at a time so getting the infinitokens and drawin em is a bit long. I’m gonna try to get a friend to build the thermal printer and see how that goes. I like your idea a lot, but my favorite part is gettin the super unexpected card that either is exactly what u need or completely useless. Last game I played with discord I got leviathan, a 10/10 in blue but has so many downsides it’s hilarious

I'll be honest, that card is amazing and I didn't know it existed until literally right now.
