Some men only know how to protect women, come to their aid when it's needed. I remember watching a guy break my mom's jaw at 8 yrs old. swore one day i would cross his path again. when it did he denied it and i told him i witnessed it. I told him it was his one chance to disappear, if he didn't i would beat him worse than he beat my mom and i would ruin his present day life. A year later i saw his obituary in the paper. God got him for what he did.

Wow, amazing story. Thanks for sharing. I use to think the same thing when I was a teen about a group of men that took turns at my mom. Had nothing but hatred and wanted to hurt them. One found her on Facebook and pleaded for forgiveness not long before she before she died. Took me years, but ok now.

I'm a southern man myself. And I don't blame the guy in the truck. And every southern man and woman know what "wait in the truck" means. It means that he's going to do something that he doesn't want you involved in. And he's probably going to jail. Depending on the judge and state sometimes the man goes free.

Not just southern my friend. I'm from Norway and asked the exact same question about 6 years ago when my best friends sister told me and her brother what her ex did to her. "Where's he at?" We both asked in unison. Nothing more and nothing less. She refused to say though. I think everyone is better off for it tbh. Cops were already involved and justice was served to the guy. I still wish I could've been a part of that justice.
This song hits home for all abused women, but it hits pretty damn hard for men who'd ask that question as well and where I grew up we'd all wanna know where that SOB is at.

I've been watching several reactors do this song, and only one noticed a small but significant detail. At the end, the girl gets in a truck...HIS truck. He not only gave his freedom for her, he gave her a way to escape, to leave everything behind. But she stayed, waiting, in the truck where she first found refuge. That's hope.

The line "I don't know if he's an angel, because angels don't do what he did..." the first time I heard it, I thought to myself an avenging angel is what he is. One Karma put in her path to save her and give the bastard who had been beating her the justice he had coming.

    • @spectrelead

Not all angels have wings, or halos, some don't even know they are one. But when they hear their calling, they don't hesitate to rise and answer, even if it means falling when all is said and done.
Despite man's laws, God has his own sense of Justice, and when the time comes when his Justice must be served there will always be those willing to do his work. Even if it costs them everything for the sake of another.

Thank you for such an honest reaction. I met a widow lady in Oct. 2019 and we became instant friends. She had a rough life, from childhood to adulthood. I loved her with all that I could. A week before she past away from a stroke(Oct 2021), she looked me in the eyes and said "I finally have been truly loved by a man who loved me for who I am." Her son came up to me at the funeral and said "Thank you for saving my mom's life." He finally saw his mom happy and joyful. All I did was love her. She impacted me too.

Since you are over-seas you might not get some of the subtle points in the lyrics "a Judge under a seat" refers to the pistol he pulls from under the seat of his truck, it is a "Taurus Judge". "That 12 he was reaching for" refers to a 12 gauge shotgun.

Hello again my dear Lady Gitana, as for your opinion on the message of the song I am right there beside you. As a man a married man of 46 years come this April 27 to the woman I met when I moved from the Newberry area of southern England as an 8 year old boy, me wife knows that no harm would ever come from me and if someone were to purposely harm her or the beautiful children she gave me there would be no place for that person to hide! As I have in all those years never even raised my hand even to make her think I would strike her. REAL MEN NEVER HIT A WOMAN! I know I'm old (64) but protecting wife and children are priority... very sorry to dump or vent my dear Lady Gitana, just long winded way of agreeing with you, and please give Donovan a cheers from me .... I hadn't heard this song before hearing it in a reaction... I'm a survivor of severe domestic abuse. I've had a broken spine, crushed wind pipe, broken bruised ribs, and collar bone. I've been choked out, beaten, tossed down a flight of stairs when I was 8 months pregnant, had my fair share of ICU stays and he would still manage to bail out and come back. He would do worse than before and then I was told if I reported it again I wouldn't even make it to ICU. I had been isolated from my family and friends, lived several hours away from anyone that I thought could help me. But the day the abuse was aimed at my then 9-month-old son (He picked him up and threw him at me like a rag doll) I found the courage to leave. He's the kind of person that changes the doorknobs inside out so when I would get "in trouble" I'd be locked in the room, or while he went to work. I am a firm believer that I would have been dead if I stayed any longer. My son saved my life. I believe that with all my heart. I had to wait until he was asleep, his mother helped me hide my son. I left with the clothes on my back and a backpack with any important paperwork. My siblings drove 6 hours to come to rescue me. I had to force my brother to just drive off after I got in the car and he saw that my eyes were bruised shut and I couldn't speak because my windpipe was crushed. He was so controlling that he drove out those six hours to my family's home with a shotgun to kill me and kill himself. Thankfully my father and brother were both there. This was almost 20 years ago and I still have anxiety attacks and PTSD from the physical abuse, rape, and mental trauma that I endured. But I am a Survivor. He was not a part of my child's life for many years until my son got older and never paid child support. I worked three jobs, went to school full time, became a psychologist to help others that have been through trauma, and continue to do so. I have since gotten married and had two children with the man that is "dad" to my son. HE raised him with me. HE paid for all his expenses, HE loves him as one of his own. That is what a Father should be. Sorry I got long-winded there.

The best way for evil to flourish is for good men to stand aside and do nothing. I hope you find healing for your pain, ma'am. (I'm 63. I still say Sir and Ma'am to people.) The worst part of this (for me) is knowing that you are one of the 1 in 5 women who endures an abusive partner. Most of them will never talk about it or do anything to make the abuser pay. So sad that courage is in such short supply these days that there are so few real men left in the world. To everyone that has endured abuse (myself included): I don't understand why you had to go through what you did, but if you are still here, then you were strong enough to survive it. That's braggin' rights, baby. Hold your head high! You never deserved what happened! But don't you DARE present yourself as a victim! Stand tall and hold your head high! You weathered the storm and are stronger for it. Take a minute of your time today and spend some time reflecting on all of the people who never got to see justice throughout human history. You are blessed whether you believe it or not.

BUT, I went through all of that and now I have a wonderful man in my life who treats me the way I should be treated!! I thank God for him every day….and the other two guys…well, let’s just say they’re no longer with us. My Ed and I are going on 11 years together, 24/7, 7 days a week and loving every minute! I was married to one of the guys for 22 years with 2 kids. But God has a way of protecting us when we don’t even realize it. This man worked overseas and we only saw him 10 weeks a year for those 22 years so I’ve been with the man I’m with now, even though it’s only been 11 years, a lot more than the one I was with for 22 years. I hope that makes sense? We are always together living out in the country! Love every minute of it! God is good!!!

Yeah, "Wait in the truck" means "You don't want to be involved in this situation and I can't be worried about you when shit hits the fan". It's a line that Southern Americans hear from their fathers when they're young. Usually when things are going bad fast and almost certainly going to get worse.

Thank you for your reaction! It made me sad then mad because I'm a DV survivor so this song hits all of us hard. Simply because we carry the emotional scars from the abuse with us forever. Therapy helps, but scars remain and mine have me dressing in red, black and white because my ex wouldn't let me wear those colors. Said they were too noticeable. It's been 20 years since divorce and I LOVE to wear RED! It's been my favorite color since I was little. He threatened to hurt my elderly parents and dissappear with our son if I left. I went to cops and lawyer. They couldn't help me. He raped me so bad, I bled for a week and couldn't sit right. Finally, he cheated and I got out with my son. Awhile later, I met my angel and married him a year later. He protects me and respects me and I'm safe. So your right. Not all men hurt you. Many protect you. If I'd told daddy what happened, I'd have been the girl waiting in the truck.
