How much to get paid if you’re a beginner:
    Franco Nunez writes….
If you’re lucky enough to get paid real money than exposure, then congratulations you’re doing a great job with your marketing, networking and overall hustle.
Now, the first time I got paid, I was really happy. I didn’t really care on how much the amount was, because I was just thankful to get money at all. And the amount of money I got was….. 10 dollars for 4 hours.
In the beginning my top priorities were building my reputation and getting good in DJ’ing. Money came last, because I wasn’t in it for the money, I was in it because I loved to DJ.
But of course I wanted money like everyone else, but my mentality was that money will come in time, and the best thing I could do right now is to work hard to deserve the amount of money I want to get in the future.
So I endured all those “gigs for exposure gigs”, and I endured terrible pay for years.
Now I’m telling you all this, because I want you to know that you aren’t gonna make a lot of money when you start off. You have to invest money, time and effort in your self, in your skills and in your equipment before you get a single penny from anybody.
So don’t expect a lot of money in the beginning. Just be thankful to get paid at all. Always remember to undersell and overdeliver. Don’t worry, in time, the sacrifices you make now, will pave your way to a better future.
    ___
    Jacqueline Cai writes…
How do professional DJ’s keep their hands busy all the time on the CDJs?
    Good and interesting question,
Now when you mix a song, your job is sorta done for the moment. You just read the crowd, beat matched and transitioned. What do you do now?
Well, for me I do 3 things:
    1. I would maybe play with the effects like echo, filter or beat roll, or even just scratch
    2. I read the crowd, and try to think of more songs that they would enjoy
    3. I would try to have a good time, and interact with the crowd by dancing or smiling at them or MC’ing
The most important thing in DJ’ing isn’t you and your skills or what you do, it’s the crowd
Imo, your focus shouldn’t be on looking busy on the decks but by getting busy with the crowd.
So when you’re done mixing, try to always first interact with the them, have fun with them, and catch their vibe so that you can better discern what the next song should be. Because creating a good time is what DJ’s do.
    __
    Joseph Angelo delos reyes writes:
How do you stay healthy as a DJ?
Well the number one thing we should take care of as a DJ would be our ears. That’s why when I DJ I use in ear monitors which are basically high-end earphones. By doing that I don’t have to subject my ears to the loud noises of the booth monitor or of the club.
In addition to that, when I’m not DJ’ng but I’m in the club, I do two things:
    1. I wear earplugs
    2. I don’t drink.
If you love drinking then more power to you, but I’m simply not the type. I’m a DJ geek and DJ’ing is just what I’m into.
Now for day to day living, I do what everyone else does:
I eat healthy food, get up early, and exercise. And that’s it.
    ___

My first gig was a family reunion, free of charge, at a local park. I had two gig inquiries from bystanders by the time I was packing up. Be polite, share your suggestions, and be open to ideas.

Thanks. Djs need to set their priorities straight and secure their future. I see a lot of the older generation develop health problems like stroke and disability, because of all the running around and not charging enough.

DJ Carlo, I have started playing in March and have studied a lot since. Haven`t seen anyone with the reality sense as you have, not trying to sell formulas of success and showing and teaching us what really matters. You are awesome and I`m a big fan! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!

Awesome vlog, DJ Carlo. I was fortunate enough to get paid on my 1st two gigs, and I invested them on somr DJ accessories that I needed such as a Controller bag for my controller and a laptop stand for my laptop. Another thing I want to add about charging clients for your DJing services is to charge whatever you think you are worth. This is an advise from DJ Barr from New Jersey.

I haven't DJ for a very long time, but definitely looking forward in getting back into it. And with that said, thank you very much for your videos in general. I ran into your channel and you have some really really great DJ video info that you provided for us your community via UA-cam. Again, thank you very much and God bless. Keep up the great work.

Hi, a question regarding the "legal" part of being a DJ. I got a controller few months ago, and a friend asked me to perform for an event in a pub. But, I don't have any DJ "documents" so to speak. I know that you need a license, or the pub needs a public performance licence or smth like that. What are the steps to not get in trouble?
