How much to get paid if you’re a beginner:
Franco Nunez writes….
If you’re lucky enough to get paid real money than exposure, then congratulations you’re doing a great job with your marketing, networking and overall hustle.
Now, the first time I got paid, I was really happy. I didn’t really care on how much the amount was, because I was just thankful to get money at all. And the amount of money I got was….. 10 dollars for 4 hours.
In the beginning my top priorities were building my reputation and getting good in DJ’ing. Money came last, because I wasn’t in it for the money, I was in it because I loved to DJ.
But of course I wanted money like everyone else, but my mentality was that money will come in time, and the best thing I could do right now is to work hard to deserve the amount of money I want to get in the future.
So I endured all those “gigs for exposure gigs”, and I endured terrible pay for years.
Now I’m telling you all this, because I want you to know that you aren’t gonna make a lot of money when you start off. You have to invest money, time and effort in your self, in your skills and in your equipment before you get a single penny from anybody.
So don’t expect a lot of money in the beginning. Just be thankful to get paid at all. Always remember to undersell and overdeliver. Don’t worry, in time, the sacrifices you make now, will pave your way to a better future.

How do professional DJ’s keep their hands busy all the time on the CDJs?
Good and interesting question,
Now when you mix a song, your job is sorta done for the moment. You just read the crowd, beat matched and transitioned. What do you do now?
Well, for me I do 3 things:
1. I would maybe play with the effects like echo, filter or beat roll, or even just scratch
2. I read the crowd, and try to think of more songs that they would enjoy
3. I would try to have a good time, and interact with the crowd by dancing or smiling at them or MC’ing
The most important thing in DJ’ing isn’t you and your skills or what you do, it’s the crowd
Imo, your focus shouldn’t be on looking busy on the decks but by getting busy with the crowd.
So when you’re done mixing, try to always first interact with the them, have fun with them, and catch their vibe so that you can better discern what the next song should be. Because creating a good time is what DJ’s do.

How do you stay healthy as a DJ?
Well the number one thing we should take care of as a DJ would be our ears. That’s why when I DJ I use in ear monitors which are basically high-end earphones. By doing that I don’t have to subject my ears to the loud noises of the booth monitor or of the club.
In addition to that, when I’m not DJ’ng but I’m in the club, I do two things:
1. I wear earplugs
2. I don’t drink.
If you love drinking then more power to you, but I’m simply not the type. I’m a DJ geek and DJ’ing is just what I’m into.
Now for day to day living, I do what everyone else does:
I eat healthy food, get up early, and exercise. And that’s it.

My first gig was a family reunion, free of charge, at a local park. I had two gig inquiries from bystanders by the time I was packing up. Be polite, share your suggestions, and be open to ideas.
Indeed! The very first gigs are fine for free, but never give 2 free samples, and always move up to impress those watching. Good job bud!
how do you end up with two bystander injuries packing up your DJ gear.
Good that you included the health part - after all, without Health, what is Wealth?
Thanks. Djs need to set their priorities straight and secure their future. I see a lot of the older generation develop health problems like stroke and disability, because of all the running around and not charging enough.
DJ Carlo, I have started playing in March and have studied a lot since. Haven`t seen anyone with the reality sense as you have, not trying to sell formulas of success and showing and teaching us what really matters. You are awesome and I`m a big fan! Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil!
Carlos you're so wholesome, your videos are all i want and more
I think your brilliant dude with your whole "preserve your ears and hearing". With like you said ear monitors or auto adjusting ear plugs. The same you use as if your at the gun range. A priceless piece of advice man seriously. Thanx 4 that reminder.
Great advice bro! Hope to see more of your vids. They really help a lot!
That’s exactly what I said it’s about being consistent in the beginning the money will come 💯
Awesome vlog, DJ Carlo. I was fortunate enough to get paid on my 1st two gigs, and I invested them on somr DJ accessories that I needed such as a Controller bag for my controller and a laptop stand for my laptop. Another thing I want to add about charging clients for your DJing services is to charge whatever you think you are worth. This is an advise from DJ Barr from New Jersey.
I lost it when you said "no no not the Jesus pose" haha
This video is full of lessonsssss!! Thanks DJ CARLOOWWWWW
I've not even started djing but I'm thinking of becoming one and this video has given me some great ideas...

What's going on brother? Just want to comment on your content. Seems very good and also I seen some of your content that is very helpful for us DJs out there. I haven't DJ for a very long time, but definitely looking forward in getting back into it. And with that said, thank you very much for your videos in general. I ran into your channel and you have some really really great DJ video info that you provided for us your community via UA-cam. Again, thank you very much and God bless. Keep up the great work.

That's $2.50 per hour. This, folks, is passion (even if he is not in the US).
It is passion man I feel bad now I was paid 100$ my 1st gig before that I was just going live and making at home mixes
you’re the man carlo!
Thanks bud! Glad you liked this one!
Carlo, you are such an upbeat guy 😄
Wish we could've actually meet irl.
I'd really love to have a good convo with you ✌✌
How do you start as a begginer dj, how do you build your social status as a dj?
Hii, thankyou so much for the good inspiration, now i wanna be a DJ , this is awsome
Becoming a DJ is like trying to get into a pro sushi kitchen. You have to prove yourself worthy, and when you are, it's for the rest of your life. It's a true brotherhood.
Very! Barrier to entry is lower now than when I started, but my goodness, the sustainability is crazy intense due to competition!
so helpful thanks!
Thanks so much DJ Carlo...my question is what should I consider before getting my near perfect DJ drops??
Hi Carlo! Thanks for sharing your experiences and perspectives! What paid for your meals before you earned income from DJing?
Great health tips!
Very true on the attention on equipment
Be the party
Be involved
Awesome video, great info;)
Now, I might of finally got a paying gig. But They want to interview my live sound/myself before they decide.
Do you have any suggestions to consider for interviews and boundaries to set without having the customer turn away???
This is just tooo good 😭🔥🙏🙏
DJ Carlo Atendido 🙏🙏your welcome keep posting your legit videos..
Great vid
Which in-ear studio monitors do you use? I use Pioneer headphones right now. But I also want to preserve my hearing over time.
Mind sharing more about the different effects / EQs / HPF & LPF + when applicable to use it?
i really like this video.. nice answer..
Shoutout to one of my favorite dj carlo !!!!!
SICK🔥🔥
Man you should consider acting in serials or movies, cause you are damn good! :D
Fan from cebuuu!! Woottt woot

Great Advice
Hi, a question regarding the "legal" part of being a DJ. I got a controller few months ago, and a friend asked me to perform for an event in a pub. But, I don't have any DJ "documents" so to speak. I know that you need a license, or the pub needs a public performance licence or smth like that. What are the steps to not get in trouble?
Hello, where do you get your music from? Any Djpools you can recommend? Thanks in advance
Dj Carlo thank you for sharing you're experience in DJING it helps me a lot 😊🎧
Glad to have been of help bud!
Yeah you're my no. 1 idol Dj Carlo then i learned more djing in you're videos so keep it up idol were here to support you always
Hi Carlo, Thanks for your nice video. I see that you have a rx 2 in front of you. Did you saw the new DDJ 1000 from pioneer? What is your opinion. Controller with standalone mixer over the full standalone rx2? Wich one has your preference?
Tnx for the tip
Well said👍
Thanks dj Carlo for all the advise I learn a lot from you because I wanna become a dj too
You're welcome Devon! It's never too late to start learning, and I hope your dream to become one comes true!
My first gig was at a house party they wanted to pay me for it but I said no because I’m already glad I good mix sum nice tracks and see people have fun
hi dj carlo ,im also a dj (from the caribbean), i love doing it because it's more of a hobbie to me...im currently being paid $50 for my djing gig,i play for approximately 6 hours, do you think i should be paid more based on the amount of hours that im playing for? just curious tho.
What is the best book which helps me to study Dj tricks and teach me how to know that the audience are satisfied
Hey Carlo,
I wanted the know that people are putting up videos of their live mixes on their consoles with original songs which can invite copyright strikes. So how to avoid them and still make a mix with songs people love.
should i start with djing first or producing music??
My first live DJ set made me 200 dollars for 3 hours last month. It felt so great! I've got another at the same location new years eve... im excited!
That is awesome!
how long did it take for you to start gettin paid gigs
@@dariusgrisby1669 about a year
How can you make people dance when u see someone is not enjoying the music, what kinds of thing you should say in a club gig in a middle of a song(specially at drop point)

@@djcarlo now buying a ddj 400
what do you have on a dj contract? what should it have in it? thank you Bill
Just want to say the videos are helpful, and I just started to watch your video. I like how you talk about scratching and all but do you have any videos that talks about where you go to get samples and drop name? What do I need to download to start baby scratching, I see you talked about baby scratching but don’t really show how the website or the download from the laptop. Could you show me how
I'm just getting interested in djing and I need to know about what equipment I should get
Just like me I don't drinking and I'm so happy being sober when playing
Do custom molded/regular musician earplugs (that decrease db by -15) work just as good as/better than in-ear monitors or both work just as well?
Wow i realy learn a lot..... tnx dj carlo.....
YES i will....... thanks🙏........
Bro plz tell me which software shall I use if I wanna start djing
I love what you just put in those 3 question especially for me when I get ready to do my 1st ever live dj set at a club that be a great idea listen to you because I want to make sure to be ready I know in the long road it's going to be ups and downs but that's the great part as a DJ you live and learn what to do and don'ts. Keep it up I will check out more of your videos out. Funkup Salute Peace

I also want to be a dj
Your tips are great for me
THANKS !!!!
hi DJ Carlo, how dj arrange the playlist?
#askDJCarlo
Hey Dj Carlo,
My question is, I wanna know how to introduce myself to clubs, bar and among other places. For example, I'll need to do a set, video set or just proof my skills on ddj, cdj.. Nowadays I am playing trap. Even though some people don't like trap music, I love due to have a gamut of possibilities on mixing.
Iloilo Lovedance 2018 represent! So awesome!
Hoping to see you again on next year's Iloilo Lovedance!
Hey bro Help Me....Which Is The Best Best Controller Under 20,000 Rupees
Is having a dj own intro song the best impact on audience....
and how do they create their intro song
Carlo, can you give me/us some pointers on how a veteran dj can learn some scratches to add to his/her sets? I can do the baby scratch but my fader hand won’t coordinate with my record hand. I keep practicing but i never sound like you guys. My mixing skills are fine and im very comfortable mixing and moving from one genere to another. But like The Egyptian Lover said: “what is a dj if he can’t scratch”
hey bro .....u have a very good communication skill😇
can you say something about India in relation with music festivals.😇
you deserve much more subscribers than you have
Nice Vidio my Bro ❤️❤️
3:52 I always price on my skillset and my overall experience. DJs that price only on equipment are going to have trouble in the future
Which software is good for creating songs
What in-ear monitors do you use?
Thanks Carlo
Thanx bro ❤👍
Can a DJ play any kind of song in the night club or should he get the copyright permission to play like Martin Garixx, Steveaoki music like that
Wow no longer using the ddj sb 😆 about time you advanced it for youtube.
