She declared bankruptcy the second time because the Lord's of London refused to honor her disclosure of a preexisting health condition(Lupus) as the reason she had to abandon her Las Vegas residency. Because they didn't pay out she was stuff with all the production cost associated with the show...for the term of residency. She didn't spend her was into bankruptcy...her health put her there. The same thing happened to Tina Turner when she left Ike. Because she refused to perform with him, she had to pay everybody associated with the tour. So she was constantly doing hotel/resort gigs and on Hollywood Squares to pay her debts and provide for her and Ike's son.
