The haters are so risk averse, the tzeentch detachment is a banger! Some restricted rerolls is easily worth more, better rerolls! Nevermind using them on a strat to essentially get a +4 strength better AP LoC that can shoot from a unit 9” away, thats brutal
honestly two things that really sold me on those tokens are that one, the enchancement that lets me get more if my oponent has any, and two, the fact that using enchancements + stratagems that use said tokens means you can get a demon prince going in with 13 strength and extra AP into melee, honestly makes them a lot stronger that way.
Chef - Slaanesh lost advance and charge as a general rule in 9th edition. This is because they took most of our units and baked in the average advance roll into our movement sheets. Daemonettes used to always just more 7” to represent their being faster. It’s been 9” since we lost the advance and charge.
Regardless of their competitive viability. These detachments are properly fluffy and thematic. My gf will be using the Slaanesh detachment and we’re both excited to see it in action.
I actually think the lack of advance and charge for Slaanesh is actually ok, mainly because all the units within the index move fairly fast anyway (and the board sizes tend to be smaller). Sure there are times when I really wish I had it, but anecdotally at least, that's far less than I thought it would be. The gambit is pretty awesome. Being able to fall back and charge is actually pretty awesome imo, given terrain on the board and los blockers (and the fact we can just move through terrain as if it wasn't there) our mobility, specifically Slaanesh mobility has shot up drastically. Being able to fallback and charge now allows you to potentially daisy chain and lock down multiple, multilple units throughout the entire game. Picture a Keeper engaging a screen and almost wiping it out, in your next turn you can now move the keeper further into enemy lines to tie up the next threat, and in the meantime your slower unit, for example a daemonette unit, can engage and wipe out the ruined screen, moving them further along the board.
100 agree! I only play Slaanesh Daemons in 10th & I'll happily give up advance/charge for fallback/charge. Advance/charge rarely came up, as you stated these girls are just too fast & would almost always be using CP for other strats. Losing Realm of Chaos from index is tough, but still really happy with this detachments strats. More importantly allowing Shalaxi to move or charge through terrain, she's already known as a fucking menace at my club, now it's just diabolical, hahaha. Seductive gambit is beautiful, love it.
Not to mention they have a stratagem that is essential daemonic tank shock. So “keeper of secrets repeatedly charging you” can seemlessly turn into “6D6 mortal wounds per charge”
I play pure Nurgle, sorry to say that a slow moving army, loosing DS 6" and the up and downey strat, along with the FNP4++ on my GUO, is not made up for by the new detachment.
Although, it does seems that if you are within 9", then they need to take a BS test, and as they are within your SoC, this will be a minus one, and if they fail they will take the d3 MW. Then you are also always rolling to see if you pass your BS at plus one, and can always regain wounds, or am I missing something?
Keep your head up! You have a stratagem for 1cp that can chain the battle shock tests to another unit. So you can potential shut down an entire objective and turn the field very quickly
The 4+ v mortal wounds will be very handy against grey knights. All in all I do like these detachments it makes them all more enjoyable to play i think. I look forward to seeing them being used as at the moment I can only play the Khorne detachment 😊
Honestly playing against it you can do something worse. Just not spend the flux tokens and prevent the deamons player from having access to as many rerolls
@@ryanbrooks3432 There’s an enhancement to subvert that thankfully, if your opponent has a Flux token in your Command phase you generate one for free. So if your opponent hogs them then you still get to use yours and they’ve just wasted the opportunity for free re-rolls
Love the Slaanesh detachment. At first glance, lots of combos, lots of fluffy and effective combos. For example, give up fights first, then pop Thieves of Pain. Then an unharmed Slaanesh unit is getting full rerolls to hit and wound.
I thought all of these were disappointing on the first read through. Ironically, they all got better once I realized there is no clause locking out the other god aligned units.
Scintillating Legion seems to have many ways to inflict Mortal Wounds on itself to balance out the powers of the Stratagems. It would be a shame if it had a 30-point enhancement that gave it a 4+ save against Mortal Wounds...
@@omegonchris Given you will likely run 2-3 Lords of Change and Kairos, it's actually quite a lot of MWs from constant Hazardous shooting (because LoCs are one of few models in the game that should pretty much always overcharge).
Soul grinders are not monsters, for slanneshs detachment they get plus one to hit and wound from the auras and can double up of the plus one to wound from the strat, very spicy
don't like the Nurgle one. You lose too much compared to the old one. Plus, I hate Battleshock because most of the time, even with a -1, the enemy doesn't even get Battleshocked that often, and against nids with their 3 dice, it's just stupid.
I just recently watched a battle report that pivoted on most of that end table failing BS checks. Was nurgle that pulled it off too. Idk the game well this is just an anedote
6 inch charge (5 with instrument) is just to good to give up. For Khorne, Surge is useless 66% of the time and sticky objective is one CP. And you dont need to kill nothing.
GW doing this with the daemons makes me think that there won't be a Codex for them now. So this, plus the first detachment, will be it for them

Hopefully that means that we get a couple of daemon themed detachments for the monogod books though Playing daemon soup was never really my ideal approach I always liked to mix my Tzeentch with maybe 1 other god so this is fine for how I play anyways. I’m hoping that CSM will get an FAQ or something of the sort to cover the Belakor/undivided daemon soup for the people who wanna play it though
Disclaimer: I am interested in Daemons, but haven’t played them yet myself. But I think they really look fun! The Khorne one I am kinda least interested in, but it still looks great! The Nurgle one I wish we kinda had influences from on Chaos Knights. The Tzerntch one is very interesting and reminds me of Slaanesh followers in AoS (from either 3e or 4e, not sure). And the Slaanesh one I get the thoughts about Advance and Charge instead of Fall Back and Charge, but the way I see it, it is meant as „hey, I just had charged into you last round with fights first. Guess what, I will charge again, but this time with rerolls“. So I am still interested in its application.
I really like all of the Detachments. Well except for Slaanesh. Slaanesh is my favorite God and i wanted to get into Daemons with mono Slaanesh but as he already said advance+charge would have been btter than fall back and charge since they are super squishy.
I would have liked an uppy downy strat for Khorne, maybe something like it can only target a unit that just destroyed a unit in combat as long as your unit is not within engagement range of an enemy unit. I play basically mono Khorne in the Index because of the uppy downy...
Too bad there's no new daemonic units, they are sadly missing variety, GW's unwillingness to make cool new stuff makes me have to write, and even sculpt my own. Currently I'm working on my very first, a Nurgle Swamp Walker... that's over 6 inches tall and 6 inches long, might be a bit big but they are supposed to tower over everything.
All those detachments look really fluffy, the Khorne detachment is the only one that really looks good though. Slaanesh looks ok, too. Nurgle looks kinda meh and Tzeentch is probably the fluffiest of them all, but also really, really bad. Not Drukhari level bad, but bad nonetheless.
the biggest issue isn't that they'll be rolled BACK into the CSM codexes, it's that GW will use that as an excuse to stop trying to make them work properly on the tabletop. Same as bringing Cultists to the fore; GW has stopped balancing CSM around *CSM* and simply assumes Cultists will feature in any lists, while still making it a problem to run an all Cultist list. The rules writers are just not good and it's going to affect every sub in the codex.
Or alternatively maybe fill in the final two tactical teachings… I left in 6th, came back in 10th and the codex has barely moved, we need more auxiliaries and we need more detachments, as does everyone bar Space Marines and Guard but theirs came early in the post too… typical
Vaguely interesting but all lazy and incomplete. None of these come close to the index. GW only puts effort into (some) imperium and xenos detachments. Total miss.
After playing the same detachment for a year and a half, these are very welcome.

That is what I am saying! It looks so fun and cool!
I've been considering doing a Tzeench themed Daemons army for a while. I absolutely love this detachment. 🤣
New project next year for me decided on!
Even Pink horrors with 20 S7 AP-2 shots is kinda nuts, this detachment slaps. And the trade of giving your opponent a free re-roll is well worth

Most people can't think for themselves. Like guard players that always think they're nerfed. Meta is meta until you out think it.

Yeah that's how it works, very rare to get those kinds of restrictions outside of space marine epic heroes.
You can run any demon in any detachment they just can't use the benefits.
