Good review hitting the right spots. As always good work. It is a shame RTT do not get lighter. Is there no market for tents with 30kg? I would use a RTT with some trade offs just to get the weight down.
I’ve got one, great except when the sun comes up the radiated heat cooks you, and, the condensation, the aluminium roof needs to be supplied insulated.
It's a interesting looking tent, but a little hard to get information about, view in person and essentially no reviews. Oztrail has clearly thought about some things & solved some problems (block out, more head & foot room) but it's got signs of a v1 product (your comments re zip & pack up are evidence of some extra polish needed to make this a truly awesome tent) Thanks for the review and comments. Unfortunately Oztrail not getting my business just yet with this tent.
Price and how does it compare or did I miss it? Good review, I to sometimes am weary of sponsored content, some hint at it, some mix it with bought products. I've watched your channel for several years so feel that you are being as genuine as possible. Keep up the good work. Jerry.
I like the idea of it lifting a little at the front end but not so keen on eating into the space. Have you considered putting the maxtrax on the front of the rack? Then you could more easily pack up the tent? With my rtt when I close the lid I am kinda holding the canvas in the whole time the lid comes down. I tightened up the elastic inside and I don't really have to tuck the canvas in now.
To be honest, we should have done that for the review so it didn't look so awkward! It is easier for the tent use, but maxtrax are sometimes needed in a rush and if stored at the front, require going to both sides to get off. Storing at the rear (where the ladder is) means they can be removed from 1 spot, saving time.
@@SIDETRACKED yeah ,fair enough, when I do a track where I start needing then I just leave the tabs on the passenger side open so I can just lift them off from the driver side
I have the same JB as you and I love it, though it is a little dated in design now. It would be great to compare to the new JB Odyssey just released in Aus. With RTTs think functional, light, cheap - pick two.
Every single review that ANY company gives that have been sponsored ALWAYS gives a good review. Unfortunately dollars and sponsorship have taken over everything
Nice looking RTT, would like to know how it would bolt down to a canopy that doesn’t have rails and is it a hard bottom. Do you have issues with the internal cantilevered system jamming on bedding etc
U should just jump on gumtree and get sone rhino rack heavy duty load bars and bolt those the ur internal canopy roof supports. Then u can bolt anything to ur canopy roof u like with just 45mm extra height.
It is a hard bottom with 2 rails in from the side around 300mm. We should have included a bit about mounting, completely slipped our minds. Neither of us have ever had any issue with bedding getting caught or the mechanism being faulty. Actually it's very smooth operation.
Mark, how does it go when its rained at night, packed up and driven all day and then set up again. Does the canvas allow water ingress onto the matress or does it keep the inside dry?
I've found it probably 60 seconds longer to pack up than some other tents. The 'climbing' is vehicle specific, you might of missed the comment about the silly height of the Defender, making it necessary to use something like the ladder to help me. Like most tents, the ladder is designed to store inside.
you wouldnt want to pack em away wet would ya all your bedding and matress will get wet a few days on the road when its raining would be downer. like the landrover
Very obvious as we mention that early in the video, however we always state to companies that we work with that our credibility will not be bought. As far as a comparison with the JimmyB that we've paid and owned for around 4.5 years. Canning is easily better in the rain, although the mattress is thinner it's much more comfortable and the tent looks a lot nicer. James Baroud is easier to pack up and overall lighter which is a big bonus.
I reckon the canter-lever mechanism is a potential failure point. Why introduce a complicated set of levers that will wear or possibly jam? It's over engineering for no reason. That said, the rest of the tent looks average and difficult to pack up, if you have to climb around the roof at 2 metres off the ground. I have had 3 different hard shell RTT's in the past, and have gone away from them mainly due to the weight issue. Nobody seems to talk about the night time scramble, in the dark when nature calls! Wet ladder rungs and poorly fitted sandals are the recipe for disaster, as a friend of mine will tell you, after spending hours hanging upside down after his leg slipped through the ladder and then dislocating his shoulder when he took the option to fall to the ground to release himself.
I guess you could say that the rooftop tent is a over engineered swag, why put a heavy object on your roof with more moving parts that can fail. I personally like when companies think outside the box and produce something different. Doesn't work all the time but a lot of good things come from people trying different things. So far the mechanism has been flawless, and smooth to operate. A longer period of use may uncover faults but so far 👌 I think maybe the swag might be a safer option for you and your mate, any RTT will incorporate some form of ladder which will increase risk when the night time scramble calls.
More sponsored content. No thanks I don't enjoy watching a bias commercial you and every other you tuber will never bag a free product otherwise you'll never get another freebie. It clearly seems you are side-tracked doing this crap more often now.
That's exactly why we state in the beginning of the video that the tent was given to us. We expressed our honest opinion of the product if that doesn't align with your thoughts I apologise. Feel free to take the time out of your day to create your own honest review.
@@SIDETRACKED one thing is for sure it would be an honest review and not a freebie gift like yourself 🤔. Once you except a freebie is a waste of time doing a review. Your opinion has been bought. You know it’s true you just can’t say it or admit it
Absolutely not. Are you saying we have been untruthful? So good the good points are bad and vise versa? I can literally prove the conversation with oztrail before accepting this product that it will be an unbiased review.
looks excellent, the orange accents makes it pop.
Excellent review! You are touching on so many details i am usually missing in other reviews! Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks

Looks like a great unit, the black out is the business.
Quite impressive actually. Can be a worry if you need an early start.

Nice quality and yes it looks mint.
A third pole would stop the flapping maybe but Mark maybe you can buy slightly longer struts and move them just before the mechanism?

Aye bro me too. I love using gear.!

That Landy really is a cool looking truck.
Thanks Shane.

Does the canvas allow water ingress onto the matress or does it keep the inside dry?
It looks the deal with the exception of the roof rails. I have a large solar panel which wouldn’t work with these rails.
nice review
Cheers lads
Jim
Thanks Jim
Would there be a problem mounting this rrt ⛺ with the opening to the front of the vehicle ie traveling
I've got mine opening to the front, no problems at all
Condensation? And change the awning from polyester to canvas, it will be quieter. The pack up would piss me off !
If it's ventilated at night it's not too bad but definitely will get some.
Looks like a re badged 23 zero saber tent
Too hard to pack up for me, having to climb over three sides, NOT ON, the ladder cannot be stored inside the tent as it is needed for the pack up.

100%, the front and side seals are not wide enough. It's a horrible chore to push all the fabric in, mainly the hard, short fabrics.
Nothing beats the James Baroud when it comes to weight and quality.
The Baroud definitely has its advantages.
The bush company is the best. Baroud is great but its plastic and also doesn't have roof storage ontop
Great review, but MATE….. not even a link!!

like the landrover
That would get flooded if in QLD’s recent rain.
I’d have to sell a kidney to buy one.
Obviously a sponsored product so to speak. But how does this compare to ur james baroud that was up on ur car for 2 days.
