Dad and I participated in a fish count for a Detroit area lake that was drained years back for repairs being done to the dam. The variety and size of the fish amazed most of the volunteers. Master Angler bass, carp, crappie, bluegill, and even rainbow and brown trout. We suspect the trout were from years of a kids day stocking program miles upstream.
Man if they lived in there longer than a year they should’ve looked into doing it more often could’ve released some wild trout in there and years down the road have a natural trout population they don’t live in many areas longer then a season or 2 the heat kills them off by mid summer most of the time
The metal cylinder thing you found looks like the remains of a spent military-grade parachute flare. The fins in the back pop out once it is shot out of the tube, to allow it to fly upward better.
Nice! My wife and I rode our bikes in February from hwy30 to the campground and stumbled upon McKamey drained. Looks like the last time this was done was 1993. It was completely fogged in at the top that day and it gave us some serious Silent Hill vibes 😂 thanks for the summary!
The round metal thing you found with holes in it and a solid bottom you found was for a sump pump(water pump)It Sat on the bottom and a hose hooked up going to the pump where it is clogged with mud
I just found this video, it is a spring fed man made lake, it was built back in the 1930's by the CC's, a work program started by FDR. It was last drained for maintenance back in early 1990's i forget the exact year. Those poles with the concrete on the bottom was part of the markers for the swim area. The max depth for the swim area is between 5 and 6 feet
Thanks for showing the drained lake. Just curious why you didn't pick up some of that trash to add to the treasure piles? It would have taken so little effort.
I'm from the Mcminn County side, not far from the Polk co line......I can say this for certain, We do live in one of the most beautiful and interesting areas in the US. , Been to Chilhowee Campground/Lake McKamy many times....recently they ( National Forest Service) drained Indian Boundary up near Tellico, and there were some interesting fish traps and stuff in the lake bed... well done explorer! now go home and shower and get the mud off, lol
With a little foresite you could have carried a few trashbags with you. Simply place the cans, etc.. into the bag and if nothing else leave it near the shoreline to make the clean up easier.
Before it was damed up it probably looked allot like it does currently. You just walked in the original creek bed and you can tell that by the way the stumps follow it. And all that mud was once the top soil
Great! your near all of these counties and other places. What the heck state or even country is it? I guess we are just supposed to know this stuff because you do.
When you started walking on in that lake bed, I worried you might be in danger due to finding some quick sand. Kind Of silly considering you obviously got home and uploaded the video, eh?
Your footsteps will be in that mud petrified for many years untill that lake drys up once again and future people will look at those footprints thinking you were probably hunting some prey or something lol
And? The point being? Given the affinity that folks working in these local, state and national roles have for nature and their respective areas, I’d bet that any major and disruptive changes would only take place after considerable analysis of options and impacts….
USFS is not know for good decisions and this is a perfect example. Some clown in an office in SF or DC told about this great idea by some other office slug and they proceed without any local input or research.
Maybe in another 85-100 years when they drain again this lake someone will come across his shoe sole and say, "wow some poor soul must of drowned here".
Wow this guy goes and explores a place and istead of being a responsible person and bringing a trash bag and getting some of that trash off the bottom of the of the lake he just throws it back down unbelievable and then he post the video on the on UA-cam like a scumbag of him being unresponsible and not trying to protect mother Earth
If you ever wondered how certain people ever made it as far as they have in life??.. well now days the answer can usually be found on video , next to there skeleton ….
What's interesting to see is the original creek that feeds the lake and how it once flowed. Awesome
It's actually a spring fed man made lake, was built in the 30's by the CC's a work program FDR started
A greatplace to metal detect.
Thats what I was thinking too!
By the camp sights. A bunch of fish hooks an weights will just drive you crazy.
Can’t beat exploring places that don’t come available very often. Cool video and cooler newt 😎

@@andrediaz6205 It was a polluted warm lake that wasn’t more than 15’ deep, that’s why finding the trout was so surprising.
Did not know that,wow
Newburgh..I caught my first fish there,, as a kid
@@gorfpatrol2073 That’s the place. I used to go fly fishing for carp down the road at Wilcox Lake.
Very cool. I love seeing things that are normally unseen by most people.

That makes sense because it had burn marks on it too.

I live in Cleveland about 30 mins away. I’ve hiked past there to Benton Falls. Creepy lake but pretty terrain.
I love it when people start naming off locations and places, parks, counties, but yet don't bother to tell you what state they're in
Settle down karen, you could have Googled it in the time it took you to Comment.

Dude this vlog is a home run! This reminded me of a Classic Adam the Woo. This was a "dam" good vlog.
Thanks bro! It was a fun one...Just super muddy.

If you’re curious to how big that drain is!! That’s how big it is !! 😂😂😂 oooook!! Lovely form of measurement
That was fun... thanks 😎👍
No problem Kathy! Glad you enjoyed it!
That was so cool!! Glad you went so we could see it
Thanks Patrick! Thank you for telling me about it.
lol My kids and I put some of that "treasure" in that pile.
Awesome lol.
Awwww, we went there a lot when I was very young.
You did a damn good job making this video.
Cool video! Sorry your shoes got messed up. Seems like stepping back in time. Treasures everywhere.
Looks like there was a bridge there before the dam over the creek
Can you please do history on the lake. Why it was built and founded or if was already there? Let us know
Wow what a shallow lake.
Born and raised on that mountain. My father still lives there today.
Why arent they pulling the silt out. That would make same farmers very happy.
The round metal thing you found with holes in it and a solid bottom you found was for a sump pump(water pump)It Sat on the bottom and a hose hooked up going to the pump where it is clogged with mud
Thanks Uncle! I might go back with my metal detector next time.
yep, it looked like the screen end of a suction hose for a pump.
Definitely on the bottom for aeration and/or sump!
That aluminum thing you found is a military hand launched rocket flare.
Walk in a drained lake . Wow mudd 😊!
Lol🤣
That’s pretty neat, would have been cool to see that
It would be awesome to take a metal detector down there. Aquachigger would love this area.
That iron you found at the end, looks like it’s an drive/rear axle shaft off a semi or big truck of some sorts.
Interesting to see. If you go back or any friends do, bring a trash bag to remove all that trash so it won’t remain once lake refilled. 😉
I agree! I found a Pepsi One can with Star Wars episode I on it...That was over 20 years ago.
That was great, young sir
Out There! kind of stuff here. We like.

Thats not a lake thats a pond
Do snow shoes work for mud?
I would love to metal detect there! But man, that mud would be brutal to dig through! Worse than wet snow!
Good job

The round thing is a screed for stopping to brief from going into a hose for a pump.
the grate joke was great got yourself a new sub cause of that one
You can tell what's backfill and whats original lakebed.
Was there any fish in it and if so hope they keep safe put back in later when fall of water
Very cool
Cheddar biscuit you did it
It was fun as hell man! I trudged waist deep through mud though.
Great! your near all of these counties and other places. What the heck state or even country is it? I guess we are just supposed to know this stuff because you do.
Man. how about some cheese to go with the wine !
Did you see any dead fish or did they take em out? I'm in Cleveland TN too btw.
Not many lol. I guess they went into the nearby stream. A lot of the salamanders are hiding in the mud though.
Think that steel door might be roughly 42" x 42". Not sure why I get that feeling
"It goes all the way to the top." LOL! Every thing goes all the way to "
"Its" top...
I wonder what goodies a person could have found around that beach with a metal detector😊
The water drains down the mountain to the parksville lake
When you started walking on in that lake bed, I worried you might be in danger due to finding some quick sand. Kind Of silly considering you obviously got home and uploaded the video, eh?
Man as an angler i can only feel sad for all the fish that were there...😢 hopefully they got out or were relocated
cool
Needs someone brave to metal detect it. I reckon its full of coins and interesting trinkets
great video
They need to dig it out. It's a fresh water bank. We need more fresh water
Every lake needs to be dredged in a 15,20 year time.
The sediment is nuts. They should try to get rid of some of it.
Why? It's just top soil from before they flooded it
Where is this located?
Ocoee, TN!
I still wonder what happened to the fish
That's a newt not a salamander😂😂😂
This is NOT Bradley Co./Cleveland. This is only in Polk Co.
Your footsteps will be in that mud petrified for many years untill that lake drys up once again and future people will look at those footprints thinking you were probably hunting some prey or something lol

That a truck axle you found there

How can you even say that? Have you actually walked there? I mean, it's made of cheese. It has to be softer than walking on coarse dirt! 😁
