@@josephfemoyer7218 Sure do. I meant the raw old timey blues like Johnny played A LOT, lost popularity and the genres that absorbed it became more popular, but that never diminished "recognotion" Johnny got, anyone who matters always recognized the phenomenal talet of the bony white boy. I think.

Johnny was the best. Tobacco Road is a classic. He was soul personified. I saw him in Charlotte around 95 when he was playing the headless Steinberger. Years later I was flying out of RDU and Johnny and his band were traveling from VA to SC to do a show. I had to go meet him and tell him how much I enjoyed his music. He was in a wheelchair and in decline but very friendly and gracious. I think he passed about a year or so afterwards.

Remember buying his first vinyl “The Progressive Blues Experiment “on the Imperial label. The early copies had a small poster in the sleeve,my friends ,many like me, musicians, thought this cat was from outer space. My only 2 comments were ,wait and listen and this gonna be big.Not many months after I read in the music trades that CBS ( Columbia) offeredJohnny $300,000 cash just to sign on.Reason I’m commenting is because you have a picture of him playing a Gib.Byrdland 350 T. Same as the small shot of mine in my ID shot. Very rare for him.Seen him too many times to mention.A true blues pioneer been a student since the beginning. Great job posting. Peace, Rocky

This Winter Blues tune may be thematically related to " I'll be right down at your buryin'" by Nick Gravinitis (sp?) a Janis Joplin songwrite also.Keep this Winter coming, Please. This may be from the sets with J.J. group at Boston Music Hall ,12/10/69. I also love the rare pic of Winter with The Red Gibson Firebird, which he used in open D,playing mostly in open E and A as he said.J.D.Winter lll ,2 28 44 to 7 16 16.Someone should post switched on Scarlatti Winter 8 1 69 at The Hollywood Bowl.Chris Young an old Fiddler of Albuquerque NM

I climbed walls and fences to sneak in and see JDW so many times. There is no Hall of Fame for this man that can add him. There was no better blues player Ive ever heard than Johnny. And this recording says it all. He wanted to be known as the bluesman and by the devil or god he was. With respect RIP Johnny you are missed

The photo at 8:00 reminds me of the fellow with Johnny when I met him in '69 at the Plantation House on 19th. and Guadalupe in Austin, could this be Paul Stone his manager at the time? Thank You for any help in this debate, as I remember The Fellow was a Big Man with that same hat but can't remember his name! Johnny was The Blues 24/7 Naturally, God rest his soul!
