  • The backstory to this unique video all starts with our very own Digital Brian. As you might of discovered, this fellow is continually searching for a new approach to things and this coupled with his high level of tech knowledge brought around the idea for this performance.
Brian found these special drum sticks that shoot out light and asked me if we could include them in our upcoming livestream. This inspired me to write a new song that showcased an extended drum solo, all done in the dark so that the effect of the special sticks was most pronounced.
I named the new song “We Love the Drums” and I came up with a little poetry, that through the help of Charlene on the island of Kauai, got translated to the Hawaiian language and was recited by a friend of hers. The whole reason of this translation is that the theme of the original livestream was stories about Hawaii.
So here we are on the performance day and to make it all work our friend Jacob walked out to the drum room and turned off Duncan’s overhead lights just at the right time. This way letting the magic of the light sticks played in the dark deliver the full effect to our eyes.
    Super-psychedelic-ized!
Tripp on EWI and Duncan shredding the syncopation!
This performance first appeared on our Episode 17 Live(ish) From SpragueLand livestream called Peter Sprague and The Tribute Rebels: Destination Hawaii

Love the song, especially with the light show with Chief Duncan and Tripp's EWI.

That strange EWI, sounding different thana sax, or clarinet.
But it's so Great to hear Tripp!
Was just, again! - over'splainin' to Paul R. on the fuller meaning of Aloha, when your link came through.
Sounded like "i love fish" and " i love fishy something", but i"m a darter's lifetime from Hawaii.
Pakala is the name of Kaua'i stream - ala is freshwater, and i suppose why i thought of Infinity is because that long left surf spot was known by the stream name, Pakala.
Not hard of hearing, just 30 years from there . . .and have forgotten the little Hawaiian i knew as a teen, 25 years from THERE.
In Lahaina they are trying to keep the monster developers from taking that little warm town, which was much cooked by fires, pau wela, from being bought up and turned into the ills we have seen .
Pele is silent on the matter, though she likely burned the keawi, which is a tree of spines, a local boy once told me, is from Ecuador.
    But, to the music . . .

Yo Mike Man, love the stories of Hawaii and me too, I got to surf at infinities a couple of times and it was always small but just perfect peelers. That chant in the front of the song we love the drums, actually goes like this, we love the drums, we love the beat. Kind of corny but it sounds cool in Hawaiian. Thanks for continuing to tune in and we'll see you next week perhaps as I think another video is gonna come out. Rush never sleeps, so said Neil Young along time ago.
