  • Many low-cost laptops have “non-repairable” keyboards, I will show you how to replace them. Please note all the cautions mentioned in the video. I will do a step-by-step on replacing a keyboard on a challenging laptop using various methods. This video is also for the individual who wants to learn how to correctly tear down his/her laptop. I will show tips for tools, screw bits, and proper removal of connectors. I will show how to remove and replace thermal grease on the CPU and heat pipe.

Appreciate the detailed description as you perform the tasks. I have a different brand. When I get a new computer, laptop, which ever, & decide to take the plunge when it's more educational than necessary, I'll refer to this video. Had to get a stand alone keyboard. Usually use on screen keyboard for some.

I really enjoyed this. Really appreciate that you go through all the steps and explain how & why to be so careful. I been looking for a video that's not so much about replacing the keyboard. The mold that holds my hinge screws, broke. Not able to fasten it tight. So, I'm buying a chassis with the keyboard. Will probably get the bottom case also. Cheap enough. Just trying to find all the instructions I can about dismantling my laptop. Its the R5 -571T. I guess my concern is the touchpad is not included. I just want to be sure about the procedure. There's a place online "impact computers". They have a ton of parts. My Acer has been good to me. I put in a SSD, upgraded the ram. It performs very nicely. Anyway, if you have any tips or comments, I would really appreciate that! And thanks again for your video!

Take your time and be detailed about your work, where screws go, and the like and you should be fine, the disassembly is not that bad if you are patient and careful.

Well, I got it fixed! My laptop is almost like new. My hinges work like new. Little scary but it was good. I didnt have any video. got a little worried but I knew I could only be of one of the two lead coming from the hinges and I was correct. I replaced the lower & upper case with an attached lit keyboard. Thanks for the video, it helped!

I have A515-52-5986, would be easier to change the hole palmrest rather than the keyboard?

Thank you for the informative video but it looks like you're using a Acer VX15 in you thumbnail and not the Aspire 5

True, sometimes I look for images that really look good, notice the title is very accurate for anyone searching for that model. Thanks for the comment and for watching the channel.

You might want to add that if you a soldering iron, maybe you should do that outside otherwise you will be setting off the smoke alarms

Is wasn't that bad but the fumes nevertheless are toxic and you want to keep fresh air flowing.

    What are those gloves called?

I purchased jewelry gloves, It keeps the focus of the viewer on what I doing rather than looking at my hands. You could use a variety of gloves including mechanic gloves. Doing a video the white gives contrast.

Couldn't you have used some hot glue instead of melting plastic back into rivets?

Great suggestion, I actually wished I had done that! I had initially considered that but was concerned it would not hold, but realized after the fact it was a better way. Appreciate your comment!

Shame on ACER for such a difficult to service laptop. I'll never buy another.
