- Stoke City FC beat Derby County FC 1-2 in this League Division One match played at a very muddy Baseball Ground, Derby on the 15th March 1975. Jimmy Greenhoff scored both of Stoke City FC’s goals with Kevin Hector scoring for Derby County FC. Derby County FC finished season 1974-1975 as Football League Champions and Stoke City FC finished in fifth place. Derby County FC played at the Baseball Ground between 1895 and 1997.

I was there supporting Stoke. Hudson at his imperious best and a couple of brilliant goals from Jimmy Greenhoff.
Heavily watered. Baseball ground pitch. Fantastic. Great memories
Stoke should have won the title that season. They got 6-7 injuries to major players that messed up the last quarter of their season. What a side, Hudson, Greenhoff, Salmons, Hurst, Conroy, Smith, Marsh, Pejic, etc.
The fact that they can play that kind of football of a mud filled pitch like that is mid-blowing. Today, they the ref wouldn't even allow the match to go ahead. We have fairies playing the game today.
Considering the bloody awful pitch there was some good play. I wonder how those players would get on with the immaculate pitches today.
