iPhone Emergency Service Saves California Couple
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 гру 2022
- A California couple’s car spun off the road and over a cliff in Angeles National Forest earlier this week. After the accident, they found one of their phones shattered with no cell service, but the iPhone 14 sent their coordinates to rescuers via satellite and helped them text with emergency services. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department rescued the two, hoisting them out of the canyon.

I love how this service is free for the first two years! Is it safe to say that…Apple will soon be profiting from severe and potentially fatal automobile accidents? 🤔
they wouldn't do that, too much bad press. likely will either keep it free or charge you after calling
It will take many billions before Apple can recover the cost of building out this kind of network and functionality. I wouldn't worry about their profits. Worry about saving yourself and get one.
It’s called insurance. Connecting to satellites is not free. Maybe the government should mandate it and subsidize the cost. Or, people should stay within cell service range 🤷

Kind of amazing you spend over a thousand dollars on a phone and it’s a 2 year service. This should be for the life of the phone or at least like 5 years.

@Lance It's actually in all cellular phones. It just needs to be programed.
@@icegamer8973 Incorrect. Programming is just the butter, but the upgraded HARDWARE inside these iPhone 14s and latest apple Watch (specifically the new HDR gyroscope and accelerometer ) is the bread. It's not just a simple "just needs to be programmed" not everything is software based.

Here’s the thing, cell providers have coverage almost everywhere in the USA now with exceptions of some wooded areas, but surprise if your carrier doesn’t have service dialing 911 or even 112 will call emergency services using ANY AVAILABLE NETWORK even if you’re not allowed roaming. FACT. Also cell carriers now have triangulation and A-GPS that even cross carrier can send that information to emergency services.
The ONLY time a satellite connection should be ever used is really if you’re in the middle of Nevada desert where potentially no carriers exist. Or in West Virginia where a radio blackout zone happens to be.
The carriers might provide the coverage, but not the technology to tap into it when it’s needed.
Furthermore cell carriers don’t offer any service to send your gps coordinates in this manner and accuracy
This is nothing more than a plug for iphone. Come on people do you know how far 350 ft is. And they only had scratches. Lmao America has become so easy.

Androids have been doing this for years, for free!

Nothing in this world is free, they need money to maintain equipment and workers, plus this is a company investment, not a government thing
😮
How does a phone differentiate between being dropped off/thrown a ledge purposefully VS being in a car crash? It would make more sense if the phone could connect to the car's systems, and the car shared this information with the phone itself.
I heard someone say that the phone knows the difference between being dropped and being in a crash because it takes multiple factors into consideration. The phone knows it has been traveling a certain speed and distance for a considerable time before coming to a sudden stop in the event of a car crash.
I generates a screen that asks if that was an actual fall. If you don’t answer it makes the notification to emergency services. If you do intervenes it uses that data to try to learn how to detect falls more accurately. Before someone says this is invasive of privacy, you can turn it off in your settings.
It looks for extreme g force and checks if the microphone picked up noises that sound like a car crash.
@@CG117st That's really interesting, and shows how technology can change within just a few years!
It has multiple ways to detect those kinds of forces. However, it's one more reason you don't want to take that kind of phone on an amusement park ride. It can trigger the emergency service alert, and if you don't turn it off, it will automatically call 911.
Not to mention the iPhone 14 was probably also the cause of the crash in the first place. Please don’t text and drive. Ironic.
She wasn't driving. He was and got cut off.
I love how that is just an option for that phone satellite and crash detection that should’ve been a feature for at least iPhone, 12 and up what would’ve happened if somebody that had the iPhone 13 promax would’ve gotten in that crash Apple should make that a feature for every phone at least not just one line up💀

This is not true. They were not in cell tower range for the car to be able to collect to a tower. The iPhone 14 can now connect to satellites in low orbit in order to send small amounts of data (such as a short text and location). That is how the signal was sent in this case.
