    If dolphins are persons, that raises some serious questions about our treatment towards them. Like confining them in small tanks for human amusement, the dolphin drives where they are brutally slaughtered in front of each other, and even just humans trying to interact with them in their environment and so disturbing their way of life. Great video, very eye opening!

    The government of India declared personhood for dolphins a few years ago. Acknowledging other species' personhood is way overdue for the human race. We're way behind them in acknowledging the intelligence and inherent value of other species' beingness.

    dolphins are 'persons'. now thats just a word!
    humans are 'persons' now thats just a word..
    it doesnt matter! what matters is that: we treat other beings and the whole ecosystem with respect and understanding! and if we don't know whether they are 'persons' they still deserve our best presumptions about them.
    if you don't understand them, leave them in peace, instead of eating them...
    the point that we DO NOT label something a person, does NOT JUSTIFY eating them!! feel the force... they all do...

      I respect your opinion, but unless something has an intelligence, like a monkey, you can eat it, because, well at least in my opinion, we started as hunter gatherers eating meat in the wild.

      For me, I think of it as animals and humans have souls. Not in a religious way though. Some are more intelligent than others. That’s true but they all seem to have some kind of feelings and personalities and different specialties. Dog’s smell everything. Way too many animals to name communicate. Octopus can’t be stumped by any of our tests. Along with cuddle fish. Dolphins and whales are so very special. Even a lot of fish have personalities believe it or not. I could do without sharks, snakes, mosquitos & I can’t decide about ants. Birds are funny especially cranes because they imprint on whoever is there when they are born. Mama to whoever is there and for life. Lizards have personalities. They all have souls. They are all just very different and yet similar to each other and us.

      DAN SMITH that’s just one reason I don’t believe in God. Why would an almighty God set up a world or ecosystem were you have to kill something in order to stay alive. Surely a great God could have come up with a food source for everything that didn’t mandate killing something else and painfully at that. If there actually was a great God things would live and intake food but food would not be alive and it wouldn’t be chewing on rocks either. It would be something that hasn’t been imagined.

    I do like it, I like all animals, I think they should all be treated with respect. That includes not being treated cruely, or eaten.

    Even plants have consciousness and emotion, that was proven scientifically way back in the mid-1960s (using polygraphs). All life is based in consciousness that simply takes different form. But we humans do have one unique distinction, and that is our outstanding arrogance.

    While I appreciate what she's doing, I think she shouldn't discredit elephants. They have the thickest cerebral cortex after humans. Dolphins are a distant 4th, after chimps. The cerebral cortex is normally associated with higher cognitive processes/complex intelligence; thinking, memories, emotions, self-awareness, etc. But no one ever makes a case for elephants being "persons." Elephants mourn their dead and help the dying, even if they aren't related.

    • @Mycuriousnature
      @Mycuriousnature 4 роки тому

      I think elephants could definitely added to the 'personhood' category. Anything that displays intelligence, emotion, self awareness, and complex social awareness.

    All animals are persons. They all feel pain. Animals have never harmed humans however humans continue to destroy thier habitat and kill animals for consumption.

    • @CleverClover2023
      @CleverClover2023 5 років тому

      Not really. Person hood is very very specific and only a small group of animals can be granted person hood and rights. One attribute that would designate these rights would be 'self awareness'. The ability to recognize self. Cetaceans have this ability which is very rare aside from humans, cetaceans, corvids (ravens and crows), primates and elephants.

    • @RTMarx
      @RTMarx 5 років тому

      @@CleverClover2023 Pretty much all animals have self awareness. You need it to be mobile, or you wouldn't know when your body ends and the space begins. Like, if a rabbit didn't know the rabbit was the rabbit and not the air / window / trees, they would not know how to move. The mirror recognition test shows an advanced form of self awareness, but many animals that are very self aware don't pass the test either. It is unfair for us humans who are very visual to compare animals who might use other senses much more or use visuals in a different way.
      Sorry for the bad explanation, but yeah. My point is that every animal is a person and are deserving of basic rights.

    They're not people. They are deserving of greater protections, understanding, and respect (as are most animals, tbh), but there is no such thing as a nonhuman person (that we know of yet).

    • @Mycuriousnature
      @Mycuriousnature 4 роки тому

      By 'person' it is mean consciously aware of oneself as an individual as well as the other attributes she spoke of.

    Dolphins are persons, then chimps are persons and where do we draw the line? Of course these animals are sentient beings.

    Neanderthals were persons... Are apes? Dolphins, it seems, could be considered among,us.
    Perhaps one day, the dolphins will take off in their spaceships. And the earth will be demolished to make way for an intergalactic freeway.

    Actually in south América we call animals for "he" or "she" people who talk english call them for "it" we don't use that pronoun for animals... I mean is incorrect. We use Just for things... Objects, well and plants.
