We speak with anti-Zionist organizer and former IDF soldier from Tel Aviv Meital Yaniv, who joined hundreds of Jewish activists and their allies to shut down the California state Capitol in Sacramento Wednesday to demand a ceasefire in Gaza and condemn the roughly $600 million in California taxes that is used annually for U.S. military aid to Israel. Yaniv recalls how they were raised "extremely Zionistic," their experience in the Israeli Air Force and eventual turn to fight for Palestinian rights. "What Israel is doing right now has nothing to do with antisemitism. What Israel is doing right now is a genocide. What Israel has been doing for the past 75 years is apartheid, is occupation," Yaniv says. "There is no need for any one of us to serve in the IDF. The IDF should not exist. The state of Israel should not exist."

As an Israeli myself, I can totally relate to Meital. It's weird for me that most of the people around me support the atrocities while feel sorrow for the lost of humanity. I feel lonely then ever, but maybe in time more Israelis will express these same emotions 🙏

"Lonely and heartbroken" are my two main emotions. Not Israeli, but a Noahide for over 5 years. What shocked me was the divide between Zionist orthodox Jews and the orthodox who are anti-Zionist. In 2005 Israel withdrew all Israeli security forces and 21 settlements (9000 Jews) from the Gaza Strip *in the absence of peace negotiations.* This would allow Gaza to develop their economy and build a peace-seeking society, which is developed, free, law-abiding, and transparent and which adheres to democratic principles. Palestine could have been the Hong Kong of the Middle East...
But what do we know? Hamas soon won elections there and the agricultural and industrial infrastructure left by the Israelis was destroyed and Hamas immediately began shelling Israel with rockets and have continued to invest billions towards their terrorist infrastructure underground. Is that how you repay a neighbor trying to live peacefully with you?
And then just before October 7, Israel had been working on a peace treaty with Saudi Arabia, in the spirit of the Abrahamic accords for peace in the Middle East. It states the conditions by the British Crown under which the refugee jews were allowed to live in Palestine. that is an interesting point she made about the fact that the HOlocaust survivors never got a chance to heal or care for themselves but they had to essentially hit the ground running to defend themselves. She could have focused more on her critical thinking process in addition to the description of her family background and personal feelings. I have kept hope that Israelis would be less violent and hateful toward Gaza and Palestine. I'm so sorry for my Jewish friends who have this hatred. My family supported Israel, because of the Holocaust. They served in WW11, so the holocaust was very real in their lives. My parents were Christians who had more Jewish friends than not. So I grew up with love for all their friends and of course, still have that love for them. Thank you for speaking out. Many Blessings and Healing for you.
