I really loved listening to you play. You play with such character that sets you on another level from other videos i've seen. After having learned the mandolin and guitar for years, I really want to try a new intstrument. This video strengthens that urge. Thanks for the beautiful music.
Wow, I thought I was good at Fanny Power after finding it at your site. Now I am embarassed to play it after hearing this video. I hope to gain your skill level someday. Thanks for bringing this song, and the follow up (the south wind) to my attention. Please keep posting your videos, they are inspirational to me.
I actually went out a month ago to buy one but surprisingly, the music store in my town did not carry this type of whistle. When I asked for a tin or penny whistle, the only kind they had was one made of a single peice of metal with wood inside. I honestly was surprised at the lack of whistles, seeing as I am in Labrador Canada.
this is amazing! The way you play moves me so much.. I've just started teaching myself to play the tin whistle, i hope one day i'll be able to play like this! WOW! Thanks for posting Jeske
Wow... your sound is amazing! It didn't even sound like it was coming off of my computer at first, or that you were playing it. But I watched your fingers closely, and yep, it's certainly you! Very nice.
One other tip: silicone grease, which you can get at any scuba supply shop is the perfect lubricant for the head joint. It won't react with the metal at all, and its viscosity helps to keep the joint at the right place when you tune it. -jcr
Choppin, I love your playing, really beautiful tone. I bought a cheap penny whistle a couple of years ago in Dublen while on holiday, I've recently tried to learn to play but I'm reaaly struggling getting a good deep note out of it, I keep getting a high whistling note, do you think it would help if I got a better quality one or persevere with the cheap one? Cheers.
Hey, I was having a little trouble playing Fanny Power on the harp and looked the song up on youtube. Thanks for your beautiful version of it! Helped me tremendously! :D
@edelahaye I have an original Clarke's whistle in C that belonged to my grandfather. It still plays too and I still use it. I worry sometimes about there maybe being lead in the solder.
Thanks again, I noticed your model appears to be made of Polymer, is it the following model fro Tony Dixon? DX026 - Duo-Head High Whistle/Piccolo. Cheers.
Wow. I love this! You're very talented, thank you for making and sharing these videos with those of us who cannot play but at least can appreciate good music :o)
what is a good beginner tin whistle an acorn or a feadog, or other? I want something like this sound. How long did it take you to play. Any help would be appreciated thanks.. great vid 5 stars....
how long would it take me to become as good as you??? i already play sax and clarinet and could play this on recorder. its really lovely and i'm thinking of buying one as a hobby.
Oh, I bought a Clarke Original from the local music store and it cost $30 in the end. None the less, thanks a million. This advice will be very helpful.
I've just checked out Tony Dixon and I can get a new one from Ireland, handy as I'm in England, now for the silly question, is one in high D the same as in D? sorry for the silly question. Thanks.
Copeland sure makes some great whistles, doesn't he? Main thing you'll need to get used to coming from a plastic whistle is that they don't need nearly as much air for a given volume. Also, they gather water in the head piece pretty quickly, until they warm up. You might want to try warming it up with some hot tap water just before recording. -jcr
Very good. Fisrt of all, i'm from Turkey and i don't speak english very well. I have a question. Imagine that a whistle. It will be low whistle but its in C. Is it possible? . Thanks already now...
Grouninja, You can get notes for irish music by googling JC's ABC Tune Finder. When the site comes up, enter the name of the tune and it will spit out options from various web sites.
@STEVEFINNERTY Hi, unfortunately some, but by no means the majority of irish traditional musicians have a certain bbia against O'Carolan's music and consider it not to be 'traditional'. That was the reason for the cold shoulder - nothing political. Myself I come from close to where O'Carolan is buried and love his music.
It's not as hard as it seems Lady, like everything it just takes practise and time. the good thing about a whistle is that it's really inexpensive to start. I think my first whistle cost me £6 and had a starters booklet full of songs.
Awesome playing! The South Wind (aka "Southwind" or "An Gaoth Aneas") is a traditional Irish waltz of uncertain origin. If you'd like sheet music or a backing track: musescore.com/user/643986/scores/5517432
Hi. I'm a member on your site. (whistlintigger) I've done a couple of posts. Great, great site. Recommend to anyone. Would love to see more aires and ballads! Or if possible pm me with some sheet music!

Beautiful! I totally got lost in the music.
Is that a standard High D tinwhistle? It doesnt sound like one (it sounds too good).
Wonderful theme choice and performance.
i think the samson co1u is just about 80 €/ 65 pounds and it provides great audio quality.
Great playing!
Really very good - I love the "slides" - dunno know they're really called.

It has an echoey sound due to what is called reverb. It gives a churchy-feel to the music..
trooop beau
beautifull... i think that i will play tin whistle
