It's a relationship of on older and younger sister. She loves Meredith like an older sister but also is jealous and knows the sore spots to hurt her
Bailey stooped so low here. It was incredibly unprofessional of her and I’m disappointed that she never apologised.
On a better note, before she walked in Meredith and Nick had one of their most beautiful scenes. They are so connected.
She acts like everything is a personal slight against her and she’s been doing it for a long time. It’s disappointing and gross.
yeah, for sure one of the best scenes between them and I also loved her seeing how genuine he is with the families of his patients, that he really cares. When he said in the cabine that was falling in love... when he said to her: "I don't want to leave you ever".

@@angelaborgia7991, this is a drama show too, and with a new season coming they can even have some disagreements but he is super centered and... i don't know, I just absolutely THE BEST guy.
@@claudiateixeira5158 I absolutely expect disagreements to come but I also trust that they can get through them like adults. It’s what Meredith couldn’t seem to have with DeLuca, he was an okay guy but he could be so overly passion-driven and juvenile at times, like a male Izzie so to speak, which Meredith doesn’t need or have time for. Nick is more centered, like you said.
Just like Derek, Bailey never stopped seeing Meredith as the intern who fell in love with an attending, they didn't respect her for her own accomplishments and merits.
And *that* for those of you who forgot, is the reason Mer didn't move to D.C with Derek. When Cristina left in the end of season 10, she told Meredith: "He's very dreamy, but he's not the sun, you are". And after that Mer and Derek had a fight and she told him he still sees her as the intern who will follow him around, that he thinks his career is more important than hers, no matter what she does.
This is also why Meredith understands now that she has to leave, because no matter how much she accomplished, people in Grey Sloan will always see her only as the woman who went after her boss, a married man.
Correction, Derek chased Meredith before she knew he was married.

Meredith is really in love with Nick, huh? To stand up for him like she did was something we never had the chance to see with Derek. Maybe because Derek was always the one who stood up for Mer then (which she never asked for). But look at how Mer grew and matured over the years. She has become stronger than ever. A person of her own. I love this version of her. So feisty. Way to go, Mer!
I don't think you need to be in love with someone to stand up for them. Bailey trash talked Nick because she was angry with Meredith, it had nothing to do with him and Meredith wouldn't accept it.
She would have defended anyone against Bailey it's not about him. if anything the comment about him sleeping is where she's saying she's down bad

Mer has grown, from all of her losses, raising her children, being a great doctor. She has learned from years of mistreatment by her mom, dad. Bailey ALWAYS talked down to Mer, except when Mer was dying with COVID - she tried to be kind to her. Pompeo is a fabulous actor.

Watch the show from start to finish. Just binge watch it. Every character does it every few episodes. They also follow the same patterns. They cheat on their partners, get back together, cheat again, try to get married (sometimes it's successful), a partner dies and the remaining partner gets over it pretty fast

The fact that Bailey says “already married” and looks at Nick made me so mad, as if she was shaming her in front of Nick to make him think less of her. Screw her, Mer doesn’t have to stay forever, Bailey always turns her back on her when things get tough without ever hearing reason.
That's kind of unfair Bailey was like that with Meredith. I definitely didn't see this reaction when Yang left for Switzerland or when Alex wanted to leave for his fellowship.

She couldn’t win it because of the hospital’s affiliation with HA/Catherine Fox at the time. But yes, it is finally time for Meredith to shine on her own.

This is an incredible job opportunity and honestly I'm surprised meredith even stayed that long. She doesn't have any obligation towards that hospital. It's a job. People change their jobs. I think Bailey is tired and she knows she can’t take time off because of the shortage of personnel so she keeps everything inside… and I guess this was the last straw.
If I were Meredith, I would have BEEN wanted to leave that hospital. All her closest friends there are gone or dead (Alex, Christina, Izzy, George, Arizona, Callie), both her parents died in that hospital, she almost died there several times, she was beat up by a patient, and the staff has an unreal body count (Derek, George, Lexi, McSteamy, that short-haired intern, Heather, Deluca...). Run, Meredith! Run!
Meanwhile, Izzie in her farm, Alex in his schizophrenia, Cristina in Switzerland, Jackson in Boston, April in Boston : left way earlier without Bailey screaming at them about their dead husband.

Bailey is in panic mode because she is afraid everything they have worked so hard for is slipping away, and she needs Meredith on her team to help keep it going. That is why she reacted that way. Unfortunately it looks like Bailey just blew a clot that traveled into her lungs. Possibly leading her to have a stroke.

I agree. There is a such thing as staying TOO long at one job. If you stay in the same job for too long employers will think you have a less diverse and evolved set of skills than someone who has mastered a broader range of jobs. They might also assume you're not motivated or driven to achieve or think that you're more comfortable with the familiar and would have difficulty adapting to a new job, leadership style, or corporate culture. Meredith has worked at Grey-Sloan for 17 years. It's time to move on to bigger and better things.

Exactly Miranda thinks she owns the doctors(once her residents)who are her employees not her children and always seems to think she can control what what they do with their lives even if it's better for them.Meridith has the right to move forward with her career and have a future wherever she wants if it will make her a better doctor and person.Miranda is selfish for getting that worked up for ease dropping on her private conversation.
It was just bad timing tho, everybody was leaving at the most crucial time and they was finna shut down the residency program. She prolly would’ve accepted it at a different time but right now was too stressful she damn near had a heart attack

I don’t know why as time passes, they make Bailey ruder and more selfish. She was the epitome of strength and character when the show first started. But as people left and died and her position and power went up, she morphed into someone that can be very unpleasant. Even her sense of humour has faded. People she loves dying would affect her, but from earlier with George and her mum, she protected herself, but also kept those important to her close. But the past couple seasons, it’s almost like she needs to punish those that care about her. Bailey was one of my fave characters, but for the last few years, I have just found her unlikeable. Such a shame considering she such a brilliant character.

Bailey has always had some sort of personal resentment towards Meredith for no reason and it comes off as jealousy. She feels as if Meredith owes her her entire career, like Mer wasn’t already naturally talented. Bailey isn’t the only one who can be credited for the surgeon Mer is today, a lot of that had to do with her own talent, her mom, Richard and even Derek. For her to insinuate that Mer is who she is only bc of Bailey is gross, screw Bailey. I’m so sick of her disrespectfulness just bc she’s chief and self entitlement to Mer’s success. Mer doesn’t owe ANYONE anything, and she is allowed to make advancements in her career. There’s nothing wrong with her being a little selfish.
the only people who can say they helped meredith with her career and REALLY helped her out was richard(tought her everything he knew in general surgery and even showed some clips of ellis grey), derek( tought her the majority of what he knew in neuro and cristina when she tought her sutures and techniques so she could shorten her time and not take long during surgeries and tbh ellis grey for good genetics but even with all that she was already naturally talented
to be fair it's the same treatment Bailey has received her entire career from Richard. remember how he treated her when she did the peds fellowship? maybe she resents or envies her but the real issue to me is that Grey Sloan mentors are way too territorial about their mentees. hurts me to say but the only mentor with boundaries on that show is owen with april

I think is comes down to the fact that Richard always protected Meredith, even as putting her above Bailey's opinion (like with the alzhaimer's trial and when Mer got fired over the insurence thing in season 16), I think the fact that Richard was also Bailey's mentor and seeing somehow Meredith always come back from her problems stronger than before (as if she never faced the real consequences of her decisions, which is a lie), like she could do everything she wanted no matter what was going around made Bailey feel the way she does right now.

No, Ellis would understand the career move, in fact I think she’d applaud her for moving. Out of everyone in GA history, Meredith has lost the most, she has had the deepest trauma. She dedicated herself to Grey Sloan way longer than she had to. Bailey always has this jealousy about Meredith. It’s sad. A great teacher or mentor would be thrilled to see their protégés thrive, Meredith outgrew Bailey by miles, won awards, recognition, and innovation. However, her jealousy also stems from her relationship with Richard too.
bailey had no right to say that. meredith has had a lot of opportunities throughout the years but still chose to stay. she has done so much for the hospital yet no one acknowledges that, especially bailey. she deserves to do something for herself so if she wants to go, she should.

You can hear how hurt Meredith is when she asks Bailey: “Why are you speaking to me like this way!?”, it kind of reminded me of her relationship with Ellis. How dare Bailey called her “the same little girl”. This is going to ruin their relationship as it did with Derek when he insinuated that she saw herself as the intern that fell in love with him. And also when he told her “you sound just like your mother”. I hope Bailey apologizes.
Oh! Bailey went massively over the line with Meredith. It's like all these years despite of Meredith's accomplishments both in her career and personal life at the back of her head she still sees her as that self destructive girl who is head over heels on her married boss. Disappointing.
Everyone is gone and no ones stays the same place forever, the others have moved on and Meredith needs to leave. Nothing is left for her there and Bailey knows that as well.

Poor Bailey! Her level of stress is crazy for someone in her position and all that she has kept bottled up just came out and she lashed at the person who was in front of her. She knows what she said was wrong and she regrets it. I am surprised she didn’t have a heart attack with everything going on.

I agree. People act as if they don't remember all the sh*t that has been done at that hospital season after season. Everybody in the chief position has made mistakes or succumb to stress. I get it that Bailey is not everybody's cup of tea, but she wasn't entirely wrong here. Maybe the "married man" comments were unnecessary, but I can understand the upset.

So interestingly, this shows more than ever that Bailey is jealous of Meredith and resents her. She has many reasons to be envious of Mer's talent along with her success. Bailey always resented the fact Mer came from surgical royalty and always had Chief Richards back, even when she tampered with trials and such. Bailey always considered Richard as family and wanted to be considered his Number 1 and favorite, but Meredith always came first for him. She even rubbed it in Mer's face that George was her favorite and that Meredith always pissed her off. Meredith never took that crap personally and was always the bigger person in recognizing Bailey's feelings. Meredith has done everything that Bailey secretly wanted to do but, instead, Bailey settled into an admin role, which seems to suit her fine skill-wise. Bailey never pretended, nor could be, to be innovative or cutting edge like the other surgeons. She is envious of Meredith's success and is now trying to make her feel guilty for it. This shows severe traits of insecurity. Because, in the end, Meredith was a better intern intellectually than the other interns in her class, rose through the ranks quickly, and managed to own a hospital that technically employs Bailey (and Meredith is her boss). Bailey is jealous alright, but I believe Meredith deserves to be in a place where no one is jealous and malicious of her success. It's a win for everyone. too bad Bailey is so blind by her own insecurities she can't see that.
Furthermore, I think Meredith respects her enough to let bygones be bygones because Bailey was her teacher and mentor. But, for Mer's sake, she needs to move on.

What about helping Alex for that test when they where interns when most of the others hated him and she convinced them to help him; taking the team to support Izzie when she cut the Lvad; the bomb situation; the little girl with cancer on season 15 and talking loudly about insurance companies, she stood up for that little girl that shot her father to protect her mom... the list is huge. I understand that Bailey is worried about the hospital and it is a big problem happening there and she probably didn't mean to say everything she did, but she kinda helped Meredith to make a decision... if she goes to Minnesota it's about HER. Meredith has part of the shares of the hospital, are seeing her worried about the money she put into it? No. Yes, we know she doesn't need it and can live with her salary but she chose to put her heart (aka money) on that hospital.
Maybe Bailey can manage to have a statement about how good the program is from MAGIC (without George, obviously), plus April, Jackson, hell even Stephanie (didn't like the way she left, she would be a star), couldn't hurt. Bailey said she always wanted to be chief of surgery but she is happier when she's on the OR... girl, you say that people shouldn't steal your joy, but it seems that your joy is not reflected on your title. And probably when Schmitt's mom wakes up she'll see that her son is good, as the program is because that education saved her life.

Also how Meredith helped her friends study for their boards. She's done so much for the hospital. Instead of allowing it to shutdown after they went bankrupt, they came up with a plan to buy it. Bailey calling her selfish, revealed who was truly selfish in this scenario.
I'm sorry but Bailey was way out of line in how she spoke to both of them. This was resentment against Meredith all the way back to Season 1, it had nothing to do with Nick, who was trying to do ground-breaking surgery but was reduced down to "handsome attending". And to assume that Meredith would only take a job becasue of Nick, rather than the money, the opportunity, the change and the challenge is really insulting. At least Richard recognised what Hamilton was doing and saw it about her talent.

Bailey has always been a little jealous of Meredith, ever since when Meredith was just an intern. Bailey was always getting into things she wasn't even in the middle of. Either Bailey is jealous or Bailey is mad at Meredith
Bailey acts like this high and mighty being but it’s clear she’s very codependent on Meredith’s name but, her pride and ego will never admit it outright. This season alone shows how much power Meredith’s name alone goes a long way for whatever hospital she works for. For example, the episode where a bunch of hospitals were holding out fairs to the top med students in the country Grey Sloan had no one show up to their stand since Meredith herself wasn’t present. Richard has also shown early on in the series that he greeds for talented named doctors (When he thought Bailey was leaving but she was just pregnant) so when he thought Meredith was trying to be sueded he also snapped. I respect the hell out of Richard as a teacher but it was clear Meredith was a big part of the Surgical Residency program at GS hospital. Honestly, when you look at it closely, Bailey has no reason to be jealous of Meredith. She loves her so much that's why she's so hurt Meredith is leaving at the time she needs the most. Bailey herself moved across US to med school and then stayed in Seattle when her parents lived somewhere else. Children spread their wings at some point and move on, they can't stay in their parents' shadow forever.
Also I'd would've thought such a huge offer like that, she wouldve communicated better with someone at grey sloan. Meredith knew there was a huge possibility of her taking that job, and filling her place is gonna take forever. So even though I think Bailey was being selfish in that moment, I also see her POV too.
I think Bailey found out this news at the worst possible moment. They were on the verge of losing the residency program, all the doctors are leaving, and I think she expected Meredith to come to her and Richard and talk to them and ask for their advice about taking the job.
She didn't tell them because she has not make the decision yet she was weighing option if to work on both hospitals or to stay in Grey sloan and help Nick with the liver research, but the way bailey talked and trash her and derek I think she will leave.

Especially considering they've been friends for so long.
