This car to me epitomizes the incredible style and design of 50s American cars...works of art

This was an OUTRAGEOUS car. The horizontal antennae spikes on the windshield amazed me as a kid. I think it was available with the Lincoln 430 ci engine? One of the heaviest V8's on the market.
The angled double-fins was unique too. Thanks for posting.

yes it was available with the 430ci engine, i had a 4dr 1958 turnpike cruiser and it was bad ass for a big heavy sedan, surprised lots of macho guys from light to light caught unaware because of the luxury looks.

The 383 cubic inch 330 hp. MEL was available, same bore at 4.300" but with 3.300 stroke which is wild for a 50's passenger car, and pretty racy if you ask me.
However, the 1958 MEL 430/400 hp Tri-Power was the gold standard for big power in the 50's, and with that space age cast aluminum intake, a real American art form.

Beautiful car the blace paint and all the chrome really set it off. Todays cars are all the same no chrome and no distiniteness, I have a 57 Monarch and a 65 Montclair breezeway I'll always keep those cars.

A time when America could do anything except be bashful, which was reflected in the bold cars.It was too bad these works of art were misunderstood a few years after they were built and considered ugly, fit only for the scrap heap.20/20 hindsight sometimes hurts. This one is lucky to have survived and kept in such superb condition. These were the cars those of us growing up in the Fabulous Fifties dreamed of owning.Todays cars are like a good secretary, efficient, but deadly dull.(No offence intended).

1955-1960 Mercs were beautiful, distinctive, innovative automobiles. Before and after that, they were just tarted up Fords.

my question is.......why does the Turnpike Cruiser have Montclair on it?......... didn't the Montclair have no windshield air vents and no opening rear window? ......... or did they just add Montclair to the name in "58?........ the reason I ask was in "57 Montclair was the lesser of the two cars (no air vents above the windshield, and no opening rear windshield)

Do not like the interior color is that orig?? Looks like another middle aged upgrade from beautiful to depressing. I see that alot at shows with the signs "do not touch" dont worry we have NO interest in touching. I wish though that these cars were left to there orig colorful triple tone interiors this down graded sand look is out and depressing what a waste
