Just realized "we're coming to get you Barbara", said when they are on the phone with mum, is a parody of "they're coming to get you Barbara" from Night of the Living Dead. Brilliant. Thanks for the wonderful reaction. Cheers.

Theres tons of easter eggs and foreshadowing in the film, but my favourite small detail is Shaun promises to take Liz to "The place that does all the fish." When the camera does a quick cut to Shaun opening the phone book to call the restaurant, its name is "The place that does all the fish"

There was a very long wait for a follow-up, like five years, with lots of people looking forward to it and expecting something great. this movie needs soooo many rewatches to get every little detail.
the first morning of the zombie apocalypse is a exact repeat from the morning before.
before everything started you can notice little things like the guy fainting or the guy eating the pigeons, ARMY trucks passing, hints in the news.
the running gag about the "you got red" that starts with ink and ends up with blood.
the flowers he bought for his mom ended up in her hands anyway.
the trampoline jump to save his man was a homage to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"
almost everyone around Shawn on the first day ends up as a zombie.
    and many more things.
Fun Fact: when Shawn slips in the store that first ZA morning, the slip was improvised by Pegg. it looked so funny that Wright kept it and added the sound in post production.

😎👍 As numerous other commenters have mentioned, this was the first movie in a trilogy that involves the same cast of actors, but playing different roles. The other two are "Hot Fuzz" (2007) and "The World's End" (2013), all directed by Edgar Wright. I'm glad to see you've decided to not cling too tightly to your original mission of watching every film listed on the IMDB's "Top 250." There simply aren't enough fun comedies of this nature on that list. 🧟‍♂ Another funny trilogy like this, that involves all the same actors playing different roles is "Waiting For Guffman" (1996), "Best In Show" (2000) and "A Mighty Wind" (2003). You might actually be familiar with some of the actors in those, as they're all either American or Canadian. You're always a blast to watch.

I wish i had all those years to forget he is gone! also, the phone bit as a millennial i can confirm its satisfying to chomp on a phone and that plastic casing sound it makes in the movie is spot on. My favourite joke in this is now lost in translation. its where ed is taking photos of Shaun and Mary the zombie, and after she falls it cuts to them stunned, not sure what to do, then ed starts rolling the camera to the next frame to take another photo before Shaun bats it away. * Warm Bodies - Basically a variant of Romeo and Juliet. Could have been terrible, but turned out to be surprisingly fun.
    * Dead Alive - An early move from Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). Utterly silly and over the top, and exceedingly gory in a variety of silly ways.
    * Night of the Living Dead (remake) - Directed by George Romero's f/x guy, Tom Savini, it's a really good update of the original zombie movie.
    * Fido - One of the most creative zombie movies out there, with a great performance from comedian Billy Connolly

You know I've always wondered if her group ACTUALLY survived. Because iirc, she is the only one who returns at the end thankful that someone survived. It's entirely possible that her group got wiped out despite making all the right moves

Hello Miss Whimsory!😊 You might have heard this film is part of the Cornetto Trilogy. This is the first film. The next film is "Hot Fuzz" (2007), and the final film is "The World's End" (2013). All three films star Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in different rolls. "Hot Fuzz" is the best IMO. Great reactions to your very first film in the Cornetto Trilogy, Miss Whimsory!!!🎬👏👏👏👏 Are you brave enough to continue?😉

Gonna talk about Prince any time i can. He is still my favorite musical artist. Funny, today I have been listening to "Sign 'O' the Times" and just turned it off to watch your video. I think you have eluded to being a musician and Prince is known as a "Musician's musician". Tons of great music. Ever considered music reactions? Also he has some movies out. you may have heard of one of his little films "Purple Rain"? And my personal favorite, in glorious black and white, "Under the Cherry Moon". (The soundtrack to that one is my favorite Prince album. It is called "Parade" and you should REALLY listen to it. So Beautiful and brilliant. I would venture to say you have never heard anything like it.) Love your channel.

ALL of the tv personalities in the film were real tv personalities over here in the UK, Plus the voice of Keith Chegwin.
Also pretty much everyone in the intro, from the supermarket workers (Mary), to the people queuing and the hoodies turn up as zombies.

Edgar Wright is a master filmmaker. His ability to transition from scene to scene only gets better as he goes. Also excellent at both foreshadowing and callbacks. Look out for those carefully on the rewatches.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Infinitely rewatchable along with the other two in the trilogy. I'm sure I won't be the only one to request that you complete The Cornetto Trilogy aka The Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy. The other two in order of release are Hot Fuzz and The World's End. The films are not directly related story-wise to each other, but have the same actors and recurring jokes and gags. Great trilogy of movies. Great reaction Whimsory. Love the effort you put into your videos.

Hi Whimsory, thanks for another great outro. You did miss one thing in your research this time. This film is the first one of a trilogy called the Cornetto Trilogy. This was a horror spoof, the second (Hot Fuzz) is a cop spoof and the third (World's End) is a Si-Fi spoof. All are great and I would love to see you react to them all. By the way a Cornetto is a type of ice cream cone, you can see one in Shaun's mouth as he walks home form the shop near the beginning of this film. Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next instalment.

'Hot Fuzz' is defly the best of the Cornetto trilogy ('World's End' is a bit disappointing), but they did another movie, 'Paul', which was a real labour of love. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (Shaun and Ed) are best friends in real life, and are also massive nerds, so in 'Paul' (which is about an alien who has escaped from Area 51) they are really just playing themselves. I'd love to watch your reaction to that one! 🥰

After this you really need to see Hot Fuzz if you haven't already. You'll see why. Sort of..
PS Throwing away Dire Straits was barbarism. I always have trouble with that scene.
PPS David (the twat) was played by Dylan Moran, who is very funny in his own right. He had his own series called Black Books, which might be an acquired taste but I liked it. He played a very different character in that (nobody who'd be confused with an accountant)

I have to break it to you, Freddy Mercury is also dead.... also Hot Fuzz is the same bunch, and really good. There's also a series called Spaced, with several of the same people that is quite funny. It was the first project Simon Pegg and Nick Frost did together I think.

I have to question the wisdom of your patreons suggesting satires/parodies. If you haven't seen the source material, a lot of the (inside) jokes fall flat. Your sponsors need to do a better job of picking movies for you. For instance, Hot Fuzz (another Simon Pegg movie) is also great, but I wouldn't suggest seeing it if you haven't seen some of the movies it parodies or references (Point Break, Jaws, The Crow, Trainspotting, Scream, etc).

One major reason i prefer British comedy to American comedy is that it's usually more clever and witty. I find no humour in movies like Dumb & Dumber or Step Brothers because there is no wit. It's just adults acting like children.
If British comedy is like the lyrics to a rap battle song, then American comedy is like the lyrics to a UK Eurovision song.
