It has been said that ultra-marathons are nothing but eating and drinking contests with a little running thrown in. I find that to be true. If you don't fuel on a 20-mile run, you might feel unpleasant and bonk. But if you haven't fueled correctly by mile 20 of a 100-mile run, the race is pretty much over for you because there is no catching up.
