No, I agree with old mate… if he hasn’t accepted Jesus eternal gift and rest in that assurance then he isn’t saved. If he’s responded to a Calvinist presentation of the Gospel, he may not be saved. Lordship salvation/perseverance of the saints is works righteousness, pure and simple.

Came for the reviews and stayed because you expanded. If you just reviewed bibles outside of my price range I wouldn't have stuck around. Love your preaching content. Thank you. My church, which I absolutely love, only has one service on Sunday. I crave more. And you opened me up to Jonathan Edwards. Thank you for that. I now have my own, very sad, attempt at a miscellany form of note taking, which is so much better than what I was doing before. And I am creating my own blank Bible. Thank you again for opening so much up for me.

I will never forget how I discovered this channel. It was 2 years ago on a road trip to colorado. It came through my UA-cam feed as a suggested video. It was one of the reformed view series videos. I had recently started attending a Reformed Baptist church, and I was curious about reformed theology, so I clicked on it. Mind. Blown. I kept listening to One after another. It was quite an education all the way to colorado! I became a subscriber to this Channel and also to the gospel Fellowship channel. I like that Pastor Matt makes theology easy to understand and accessible to us normal people!

Not all folks out there, we laity, obsess about leather-bindings on Bbibles. It seems to me (or simply for me) that a good hard binding for a Bible is, well, just fine! I seldom purchase a leather-bound Bible for that reason's sake. It astonishes me no end that folks go bonkers with joy at the sight and smell of a fine leather Bible. For a Bible that I only use very ocasionally, even a paperback Bible is adequate. You're on to something, pastor!

    • @robertshirley624
      @robertshirley624 Рік тому +1

I agree. I am much more interested in the features inside the binding (ie introductions, maps, etc. ) that help me to actually read and study the Bible for myself) rather than the outside cover.
Yes, buy a long-lasting cover, if you can afford it. However, it is what is inside that matters the most.

Brother I did find you because I was looking at buying a Bible but what I found was someone who was dedicated to enabling Christians to further their walk as you told us about how to journal, how to organize notes, how to pray, how to have a time of devotion, and yes it's not necessarily what each video did when you were speaking of a Bible but it was the sum of the whole of all these videos. I've been following you for a couple years now and if you take the video content you've produced you have helped me and I'm sure many others, immensely and though the Bible review was only one part of what brought me your way there was so much more that I have gained by watching you and listening to you and hearing you because your heart is in the right place and your desire is for all to learn of Christ, to walk with Christ and to be humble before God. Psalm 1:3

Every few years it seems like someone comes out with a new study Bible or translation and it becomes all the rage. Christians are just as susceptible to slick marketing as any other group. If you buy a quality, leather bound Bible it will probably outlast you. I have my grandmother's Bible sitting on a shelf in my den. Of course, it looks old, but it's still in usable condition and she carried it with her all the time.

Companies know that if they give these youtube channels free stuff to show and demonstrate its very profitable for them. And some youtubers can't resist becoming sales reps for them, especially when they get you to purchase from their links. Nothing wrong with making money but I've learned not to pay heed to most recommendations, at least not without doing further research. I admit I almost bought a new Bible I really didn't need. I'm not a Bible scholar and realized if I need something besides my KJV or NASB(1977) I can find just about any version on Biblehub.

You are correct! Anyone can sell products on UA-cam but not just any one can teach and preach. I understand your desire to share the gospel, when the Lord saved me all I wanted to do was to share the good news! Sadly not many people around me are interested so I started what is probably the smallest bible you tube channel ever! I only have 19 subscribers and there are times that I get no views, but that does not stop me, I imagine my kids might one day want to watch my videos. But If I can reach just one person! You never know, the good Lord used a gardening you tube video to save this sinner! Please keep doing what you are doing, I learn every single time I watch your videos and your manner of teaching is clear, concise and best of all biblical. God Bless!

Mathewl---I very much appreciate your heart to share Jesus and the Gospel of Salvation. Your sincerity is very evident and I applaud you for it. Having spent the majority of my life in advertising-media and marketing---I understand your feelings, and thank you for encouraging your viewers to seek out other Bible reviewers on UA-cam. I would encourage you to consider doing a review on a new edition of a Bible, because you have people who trust your love for Scripture and truthfulness. Its important that Christians, and those seeking Christ be pointed towards reliable, accurate Bibles in order to gain not only a firm foundation in the faith, but also find a Bible that they can enjoy reading and studying. I use the CSB Study Bible as my daily Scriptures. While I can discern Baptist theology in some of the study notes--I have found it to be a reliable translation, highly readable and good, honest scholarship. I do not agree with all of the notes, but there's nothing in them that causes me any concerns. Keep up the great work. Thank you for your love of Scripture and for your ministry in sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God

It's a good reflection of your faith and character and integrity
It also shows you have your priorities right
Some people have multiple / many Bibles and err on the side of focusing too much on the the quality of the Bible and can miss the whole
point and preciousness of the Word itself and application of it
It is not wrong to have more than one bible or to have a small collection but we need to be sure our heart and motivation is in the right place

Bible review channels can easily fuel an obsession for the quality and luxury of the expensive materials and workmanship, rather than a love for the word of God.
I went down a rabbit hole of Bible purchases for several months myself.
I Spent far too much money and wasted too much mental energy on that vain pursuit. Bought multiple Schuylers, premier collection versions from zondervan, Thomas nelson and others.
In the end, being an almost exclusive user of the Authorized KJV, I could have saved myself a lot of money and time if I had found Church Bible Publishers, or Trinitatian Bible Society first. My midsize turquoise from CBP is just built like a tank and will likely last me decades having paid well under $100 for it. I have started to gift some of the other more expensive Bibles to family.
Honestly when I see some Bible review channel videos these days, I get an uneasy feeling that some form of idolatry is taking place.
I see people fawning over the gold gilting, smelling the leather and rolling their eyes back as if it was a drug while caressing and massaging the book with this weird sensual demeanor.
Don't get me wrong, a good quality Bible can enhance your reading experience with better quality ink and a font that doesn't tire your eyes easily, more resilient paper, and good binding that helps the bible lay fully flat while reading and the such.
But you just need to find ONE such well made, built to last Bible. Then study it, read it incessantly and use it until you wear it out.
No need to buy 10 different luxury Bibles.
I do encourage people to keep the printed Word alive by buying from ministries like Church Bible Publishers and Trinitarian Bible Society and gifting those great Bibles to new converts, family members and friends.
Just don't turn a love of God's word into a love of luxury materials instead.

Yes we need to be careful with crossing the line with idolatry. I like to shake things up with different bible styles and translations to stay in word (just the way my brain works) so having a collection of bibles at different price points (and I love CBP Btw) for me is great and I can afford it. I buy them for the word first and foremost. I am also happy in a $20 bible as I am in a $200 bible. So I have a variety. We can’t treat paper and leather as an idol. I agree - in reality, a CBP bible will last years. And you don’t need to break the bank to buy one.

Same here as regards the money-draining rabbit hole, and kudos to everything else you wrote there. I think the $27 Trinitarian Bible Society's hardback large-print edition of their Westminster Reference Bible is one of the most insanely terrific deals out there. If I'm honest my most-loved and most-used Bibles probably didn't cost much over $100 total. My weakness has been less about getting the best goatskin but rather going down the rabbit hole of trying to get every English translation under the sun. I've settled now on the KJV, NKJV and ESV.

Wow! You read my mind! I watch these Bible reviews and always wonder about the excitement they gave the presenter. I said to myself, how about telling people about the excitement of reading the Bible! These Bibles are $200 - $500 and the insides are the same if it were a $3.00 Bible or a free one. Thank you sir for pulling back from Bible reviews and now preaching and teaching what's inside the Bible. That is what is going to save, deliver and bring the knowledge of the Almighty. Don't be a Bible collector...Read it!!

I slowed way down on the reviews as well. Crossway has been great, but other publishers who are not owned by Christians, but once were, changed their review programs. They began limiting review options to only editions they wanted to push. This put me off. I wanted to review higher quality Bibles that I would be interested in, not poorly made editions that were falling apart right out of the box. I didn't stop writing though. I was approaching retirement age for my chosen profession, and was focused on getting my house in order. I've enjoyed your videos over the years, especially when you tried recovering a Bible with couch leather.

New subscriber here, this is my new favorite channel! Thank you for all that you do Matthew. Might I recommend the ESV Archeology Study Bible made by Crossway? I just got one and it is beautifully made and an invaluable research tool to supplement my actual Bible study with an ESV Study Bible and my trusty KJV. There's so much extra material in there that adds historical context and all the archeological evidence corroborating the Biblical account.

Been a long time watcher and subscriber on my personal account. I loved your bible reviews and miss you doing them. Hopefully we still get the odd one. I have stuck around because I really value your teaching and I'm greatly edified by your content, and admire your fair minded and gentle approach, even on topics or people you disagree with.
Watching you for years, with your crash tests and symbols for your bible, you helped me find bibles I love and have used well. I thank you for that. And I always wanted to do that for others, as people would often ask me for their advice on what to buy. Well many years later, I finally plucked up the courage to do so and started my own channel this past month or so. Then I get hit with this video...ouch, I'm disappointed in you attacking bible reviewers...only joking brother 😂. I totally get your point, and while I loved your reviews, I am extremely thankful for your teaching content. Seriously thanks again, and for inspiring me to try out reviews. God Bless, Pastor Matt.

I do appreciate the way you see the Bible as an art object. The cover, the quality, the beauty of the thing as a kind of representation of the most precious contents! We are very fortunate in our day to be in the position of being selective. How did we get to this place?

Idk if you'll see this but I've recently starting practicing my faith again as I've had quite a few callings to come back to God through Christ. I decided to make the decision to really get into his word. My father is a KJV onlyist, and told me it's the only true English translation. I tried to read the KJV and even though I could understand some of it, a lot of it just confused me. As I was researching what Bible I should pick out I came across some your videos. You (and a few others) have been a big help in my decision making. I decided to go with the NKJV. It's close enough to the KJV to if I decided to do some reading and studying with my dad I could follow along, but it uses modern enough language to where I can actually understand and comprehend what I'm reading. Now I'm just watching your content because I find it genuinely interesting. So I would like to say Thank you and God bless you.
