Yeah. That was back when I had no actual video plan and just started recording. If it helps, the current models are basically equal from what I can tell.
Both look to be about the same. Both could use an upgrade in the spark plug and starter grips. If you absolutely have to have shielding for the spark plug wire, its easy to obtain and install. If they come with the same engine and generators then you are getting pretty much the same thing. Or, engine is the first thing I would look at.

@@chevygang4505 Hey Chevy, Got it during a Black Friday deal and its still in the box today. Im wanting to use it for tailgating but havnt had the opportunity yet. @@hksjoshua I read a girl got it for her mother in Puerto Rico a few years back after a hurricane and said it ran a SMALL window AC unit and a fridge with no issues. Ran for a few weeks, guess she had a lot of fuel. I wouldn't rely on it for that personally but i just use it for tailgating.
I have a 600w version of these. It was running perfectly then stopped, drained the carb, checked the spark on the original plug and there was none. Replaced with a Champion N9YC and still no spark, any ideas? I am now wondering about your comment of a flimsy plug cap. Hi from NZ, Anthony.
My advice is clean it out as best you can take the gas tank off make sure there's no rust in it and if there is put a bunch of nuts and bolts and some gasoline in and shake it up until there's no more rust before you put the gas tank back on check for spark but also check to make sure that no other wires are shorting out underneath the gas tank causing any Sparks and last but not least after all said and done and it won't start still just take off the pull cord and use a drill give it a first start let it run for a while and it should run with one pull after that if all is well. You may need a new coil pack if there's no spark or a new Magneto but both are under $20 each at Harbor Freight online
someone took pride in my 25 model...i thre away cup...useless anyway...kept red ring...somewhat usefull...manufactered nearly perfectly..no flaws that i have found. exept 6.5 amp sticker wrong...should be 7.5 max amp hence 900watt label
Man, I watched your video to get a perspective on which one to buy. I get your doing a thorough review but my God, the first 10 mins is spent showing box sizes and sticker decal similarities, metal edge differences... no one cares about that. Your confusing talking about all the model numbers, at the start there is a red generator on the left and a green one on the right, then POOF both of them are green. I have a headache!
Next time you may just consider 2 things. 1 put a sticky note on the one that is better and write the word "Better". Then when you talk about them you can just refer to the one that Better. Using all those numbers over and over makes my head spin :) I think folks would get alot more out of the video. But thank you for making it. I am glad that I have the "Better one"!
@KevCentral, I have 3 of these 2 stroke HF generators. What have you found to be the best spark plug for these 2 stroke HF generators? And what gap do you find runs the best? I always seem to get carbon fouling on my plugs. And finally, on average, how many pulls does it normally take to start yours?
Do you shake your generator before starting it? If not, you should. The oil and gas are separating and you are getting too much oil into the cylinder. Or, you aren't running the right mixture. That's just my .02 cents, I hope it helps.
You should stick to your reviews of shoes your talkin about how the box looks and over spray on the generator when when you should be reviewing the power output to see if one outperforms the other what a waste of a video
in addition to the 63024, I found a NIB never used 69381 Storm cat and a NIB 66619! paid $60 for each. just fired up the 66619 a few minutes ago. started on the 3rd pull.
+Bill Campbell Good call. On my personal one that's one of the first things I did as well. I also installed an NGK plug cap. ua-cam.com/video/5hSnG0_yn7s/v-deo.html
I added NGK spark plug cap and plug, a high quality fuel filter to mine plus put 3 tablespoons of 2 stroke oil down the spark plug hole before the first start. I sprayed the foam filter with foam filter oil.
Someone gave me one of these that he couldn't get started. I plugged in the spark plug and it started on the second pull. Works pretty good for a free generator.
I just got one tonight and it fired right up. Ran great too. Yes I did get the 63024 version. I also sprayed a light penetrating oil in the spark plug hole before starting it so it wouldn't be dry.

+Love2boat92 Thanks for commenting. That's totally my opinion and is in no way based on anything other than my suspicion and the differences in quality and components. I would imagine the volume alone would warrant multiple manufacturing sources for just about everything they carry. Hence the multiple different item numbers and differences in quality between the separate item numbers.
I picked up a 63024, I already have a 60338 (about 4 hours on it & yes it's knocking too). After changing the plug, boot & adding the same hour meter I found that the 63024 just runs smoother (from 1st pull) than the 60338. A noticeable difference really. I'll keep both, if I can get 281 hours out of the '38' it's worth it. Thanks for all the great research & testing. Nice Job....
+Tom Young congrats on the new '24,' and thanks for the comments. I have quite a few new videos coming on the TailGator and one potential comparably priced competitor, so check back.
@@haleybugbrookie458 you fill the gas tank all the way up with oil and then pull the cord about 10 times, (make sure the fuel valve is on) then turn the machine on it's side for about 20 minutes to absorb the oil, then you open the gas tank and fill with gasoline and repeat the process. It's really quite simple actually.

im so lost on these numbers. Why just not called them Model A and the newer Model B. Whats gonna happen next year is HF gonna say, we got to new Models The Tailgator Model # 63969 and an even newer one The Tailgator Model # 63696?? if they do that im gonna wrap that pull cord around my neck and " choke" on it!! lol omg so freaking confusing!!!!
Brand new 63024 and it won't start. Took me ten minutes to get it started the first time...ran it until the fuel exhausted. Refilled it and it will not start...at all... taking it back. New equipment shouldn't be hard to start right out of the box, even if it is Chinese. JUNK
Chill out haters. If you watch the video you realize that he is recommending the 63024. I stalked the local HF's for several months until I could finally find one that wasn't the 63025. It worked great running it once a week last winter to charge my shed batteries and run some power tools, radio and lights.
Hey sir you mixed up your numbers in the video. The newer one is the 63025 and was shown boxed on the right side but in the end of the video you call it the 63024. The right side 25 model will certainly be a newer model, maybe they changed manufacturers because of minor defects.
GREAT! At 2:15 after you UNBOX the two you swap them from left to right?!?!?!?!?! YOu show the foam packaing and have the 024 of the left, then after removing the plastic, you put the 025 ON the left?!?!?!?! NOW how do we know which is which?!?!?!?!
I have a new one I just bought. 63025. It makes a knocking clattering noise while under a 500watt load. Is this normal? Most would say no, I don’t like i noise but if it is normal I’ll have to live with it.
well I have the 63024 and it just crapped out the other day, hopefully I can find the receipt as it is about 2 1/2 months old! Probably one of the worst little generators I have bought! Was making some clanging noises about 3 weeks old, gas cap leaks gas all over the place and now gas just pours out of the carb area. Not even going to bother with it if I can just go get a free replacement, gotta go hunt down that receipt. On a positive not when it did run it did take on a load fairly well when kept within the amps and watts.
They are cheap because there is no tight control in manufacturing so you get a wide range of defects from BOTH numbers which are Both made at the same plant - your comparison is ridiculous.
I have a 63025 Tailgator that recently stopped running properly. It seems to have lost its governor and runs only in an idle-like mode, and will not power anything except LED lights. Have you any experiance with this issue and how to fix it?
my 24 fired up on the second pull. Wawa 89 ethanol free Pennzoil twc3 two stroke oil. only issue was no load voltage was 141. I adjusted the gov down and stuck a 60 watt load on it. then I mowed the lawn. checked the Genny and voltage was way down had to adjust it back up. now I've got it. o load 127 and 120 with load.

i ran my blue chicago electric one into the ground during hurricane sandy. was replaced with a red storm cat. that one finally bit the dust. been very pleased with them actually, i've run them hard and they are super cheap. i was about to get a tailgator but then saw that Costco is selling a similar looking generator, albeit slightly larger, about 5 lbs heavier, but.... it's 4 stroke!! it's made by Firman and is $149.99 right now. it's also more powerful, 1000W running. i decided to order one of those. i'll report back on my findings
I got the last '24' at my local harbor freight, been slowly breaking it's first 25 hours on small things like a 300 watt bulb or a small drill, then when that's over I'll push it to it's rated limits!
I just bought a 63025 and it has the thin rim around the top the the old "worse one" but has the clean nice casting of the new "better one" are they mixing parts now? Also mine didn't come with a mixing up. Has the old style pull handle and the new red gas fill ring.
+L Wolf The flashing on the end cap varies from bad to better on both models. The mixing cup should have been separately packaged in the box of the 25, but they regularly forget to put in items. All 25s should have the red ring. Have you ran it yet?
+Leslie B From my experience with these things you're good to go if they make it through the first 10 hours. I wouldn't worry too much about getting the 25 over the 24. They newer versions seem to have more quality control than in the past. Thanks for commenting.
+Aaron B I think I did accidentally reverse them once during the video. The 24 is the model I recommend, though the overall quality is nearly equal on the two models now.
I have a red one and a green one not sure of the numbers but they both work fine. Key is proper breakin and not to over load them. Take care of your tools no matter how much they cost. Been using them for off road races for last 4 years even loaned one to a race fan who's motor home gen took a sh*t, they needed to make coffee and run some lights. Nothing major in return he gave me a 100 foot heavy cord.
you were flip-flopping and the other guys asking about mixing the gas mix it in a can then pour it in Old Pro I ride a Honda CR500 but I only use VP fuel but gas applies the same
other than being picky on spark plug cleanliness my rig cut lucabond with a 4amp angle grinder like hot knife through butter . then drove screws to attach same to house under pinning all the same time running a fan for our comfort (did change spark cap to NGK type cap better for the inspection and service of plug cleaning at three tank fulls verry good value)
I just bought the TailGator. I put about 16 oz of Trufuel 50:1 into the tank and I must have tried 50 pulls with the choke on and off. I pulled out the spark pull to make sure that it was getting spark. After a few more tried it would start up but then die. If I would let it sit for a 20 seconds, it would start up again and die. I then put the full 32 oz of fuel in and it then started running. I let it run for about 30 minutes with no load and then I was going to put a light load on it for another 30 minutes. I was using a fan for the load. Probably under 300 watts. But once I put the fan on it ran for about 60 seconds then died. I started back up and it died again after a few seconds. The next time I started up and it started to die, I put on the choke and it started running again but I believe it eventually died. I can open up gas cap and I can see gas right below the screen. It seems like it is not able to get enough gas. Any ideas before I return it and maybe try another one? If it had something to do with spark plug I don't see how turning on choke would make it run better. And after running for 30 minutes, adding choke should not make it run better. Thoughts anyone?
My advise would be to take it back and get one you don’t have to fight to keep running. In my experience it’s not worth the hassle or worry when you can swap it for one that works properly out of the box.
The decision was kind of made for me. The 63024 is all that is available at my local Harbor Freight. I had to pick through the pile as most of the boxes looked like someone ran a forklift into them. I needed something to put a charge into a jump starter to run a CPAP in power outage situations and camping. This should do the trick!
I have a cpap machine too. I was thinking about getting a 12 volt lithium battery and a power inverter for power outages. The only downside is the cost as the Tailgater is much cheaper. The upside is you don't have to run extention cords because it's inside, and you don't have to worry about someone stealing the generator while you're sleeping.
You keep mis-stating the stock numbers and losing everyone !!!!!!

I bought the 24.5
lol
Lol
Your confusing me. you keep calling the 24 the 25 and the 25 the 24.
+Keith Williams I only mixed it up once
Both look to be about the same. Both could use an upgrade in the spark plug and starter grips. If you absolutely have to have shielding for the spark plug wire, its easy to obtain and install. If they come with the same engine and generators then you are getting pretty much the same thing. Or, engine is the first thing I would look at.
Not only that, the dumbass SWAPPED them from left to right after unboxing so you don't know which is whiwh to get the BETTER of the two!!!!!
+Col Jr well if you paid attention, which you didn't, the 24 has a black gas cap. the 25 is chromed.
KevCentral you done a great job.
we don't care about trivial cosmetics, which one is more reliable?
Right? In a video like this you expect a complete teardown
WHY dont you start by stating the factory locations ? !
Thanks, after watching your video, I bought the 24
There are certain people in this world that you just DO NOT want to sell anything to!!
both junk!! never buy a two cycle generator
63024 & 63025 Neither are a perfect Generator , I bought one and it first running perfectly then abou two weeks later , it started to mess up the Engine , when i plug in the generator the light started go high & low same than to the house Fan , what the problem now , any Answers ????
Wish I had seen this video beforehand but, with hurricane Irma on the way, I'm lucky to have one at all.
Do both manuals spec the spark plug gap at 0.0011"? I don't have a micrometer.
Plug gap should be 0.020~0.022", it's not super critical but use a wire gap gauge. 0.0011 is way too close, almost no gap!
An 11tenths gap is probably all the mustard the coil has ;(
Just use quality oil in your mixture and mid grade fuel and it will run perfect
Just got mine, thinking of using pre mixed 50-1 gallon cans with it, also might switch out the factory spark plug for a more reliable one too.
@@MulletHead87 how is it I'm looking into getting one..and which model did you get thanks in advance
@@chevygang4505 Hey Chevy, Got it during a Black Friday deal and its still in the box today. Im wanting to use it for tailgating but havnt had the opportunity yet. I did read that a woman bought it for her mother after a hurricane and she operated a window a/c unit and fridge with no issues. Got a good deal on it so i grabbed it.
@@MulletHead87 I doubt it ran a ac unit !
I just bought the 024 and it didnt have a plug wire shielding around it .
I have a 600w version of these. It was running perfectly then stopped, drained the carb, checked the spark on the original plug and there was none. Replaced with a Champion N9YC and still no spark, any ideas? I am now wondering about your comment of a flimsy plug cap.
Hi from NZ,
Anthony.
This is old but it sounds like a bad coil, suuuper easy to change
Found one by the curb someone threw away looks brand new, any common issues I haven't tried to start it yet.
Please don’t add gasoline to nuts and bolts to clean the tank, marvels mystery oil is safer and any residual mmo is good for the fuel system imho.
someone took pride in my 25 model...i thre away cup...useless anyway...kept red ring...somewhat usefull...manufactered nearly perfectly..no flaws that i have found. exept 6.5 amp sticker wrong...should be 7.5 max amp hence 900watt label
8:43 minutes wasted
if you keep fouling plugs, try an ngk bpr-5es or bp-6es
Do you shake your generator before starting it? If not, you should. The oil and gas are separating and you are getting too much oil into the cylinder. Or, you aren't running the right mixture. That's just my .02 cents, I hope it helps.
With that crappy undersized foam piece for an air filter,
I wouldn't buy any of them!........
You should stick to your reviews of shoes your talkin about how the box looks and over spray on the generator when when you should be reviewing the power output to see if one outperforms the other what a waste of a video
So I have 63025 that was free and soon to see if it runs! 👍👍 I will update you soon if mine runs
in addition to the 63024, I found a NIB never used 69381 Storm cat and a NIB 66619! paid $60 for each. just fired up the 66619 a few minutes ago. started on the 3rd pull.
First thing I did was put in an NKG spark plug.
+Bill Campbell Good call. On my personal one that's one of the first things I did as well. I also installed an NGK plug cap.
ua-cam.com/video/5hSnG0_yn7s/v-deo.html
Bill Campbell Isi
I added NGK spark plug cap and plug, a high quality fuel filter to mine plus put 3 tablespoons of 2 stroke oil down the spark plug hole before the first start. I sprayed the foam filter with foam filter oil.
Huh, is NKG a new brand or something? I've only ever used NGK, in the yellow box with red accents.
Yet another waste of money. A quality spark plug in a junk generator. 👍
my brains melting
...I GOT THE 409 AND IT RUNS THE WHOLE TRAILER PARK !!
Thank you. This was great. Very helpful.
Someone gave me one of these that he couldn't get started. I plugged in the spark plug and it started on the second pull. Works pretty good for a free generator.
What a pal you are for not giving it back to him.
I just got one tonight and it fired right up. Ran great too. Yes I did get the 63024 version. I also sprayed a light penetrating oil in the spark plug hole before starting it so it wouldn't be dry.
It says it is a 1 galon tank. It is not 1 galon it is about a little more than 1/2 galon. I have one i use a 1 galon cranberry juice jug to make my mix. When i fill the tank i a little less than 1/2 the jug left. It does run
5 hrs using. 32in led tv sat box charging 2 celphones and a 18 fan. Here in puerto rico after huricane maria
Are you guys still running on generator power down there? I was hoping most of the grid was repaired by now.
Real world use is what should matter
63025=paying your workers $10/hr
63024=paying your workers $15/hr
😂
I wonder why they have 2 different plants manufacturing their generators. Thanks for the video!!
It's so that HF can identify quality control problems in case one stock number experiences higher failure / return rates than the other.
Where oil go in
It mixes with the gas
@@haleybugbrookie458 you fill the gas tank all the way up with oil and then pull the cord about 10 times, (make sure the fuel valve is on) then turn the machine on it's side for about 20 minutes to absorb the oil, then you open the gas tank and fill with gasoline and repeat the process. It's really quite simple actually.
@@_..-.._..-.._
Lmao
Generator '63024' was on the left side but then next thing I see, '63024' the right side what is the deal with you? trying to be confusing misleading or what?
Nah, just stupid
Confusing which model you're referring to..
Sorry to say but this is the only technical video about these that is not BS.
Everything at harborfreight seems to have 2 part numbers.
i got the TailGator 63024 yey!
im so lost on these numbers.
JUNK
Can I add a triple socket adapter on the front of this generator? Or just a multi outlet plastic panel?
I just plug in a 6 way power strip into the generator, and plug my tools and extension cord into that.
@@turtmastert3545
Two stroke oil is two stroke oil it shouldn't really matter.
@@chivosadventures8171 . . . that is incorrect . there is definitely different levels of quality in oils . . . especially 2 stroke .
@@pappy451
What are the differences? We used to use just regular old motor oil in our two stroke dirt bikes and mopeds when we were kids of course this was like a million years ago.
@@chivosadventures8171 . . . just in the way they are made . but i will tell you i did the same as you . in my old yamaha 360 . but they are different . one is made to burn , the other to lubricate . both will burn , but one is specifically designed to burn while the other is designed to resist burning ( from friction and engine heat ) , but yes , it does burn .

Aren't they all supposed to burn? after all we do use them in internal combustion engines?
Man I cannot hear a word you are saying
i ran my blue chicago electric one into the ground during hurricane sandy. was replaced with a red storm cat. that one finally bit the dust. been very pleased with them actually, i've run them hard and they are super cheap. i was about to get a tailgator but then saw that Costco is selling a similar looking generator, albeit slightly larger, about 5 lbs heavier, but.... it's 4 stroke!! it's made by Firman and is $149.99 right now. it's also more powerful, 1000W running. i decided to order one of those. i'll report back on my findings
+jgg204 please do. I'd like to see that generator.
costco went OOS. didn't get a chance to buy one!
I bought one today and I got the numbers backwards I bought the 63025! Lol. They didn’t have the 63024.
+Leslie B If Duromax wants to send me one I'll be happy to put it through some testing :)
+Leslie B Alabama. The place where humidity comes to retire.
The cosmetic differences have nothing to do with reliability. If they were made to the same specs, they should be the same. It's a crap shoot.
Got a LG gas one is much better
Just picked up the only 63024 in the store. They had about 10 of the 63025. Thanks for heads up.
You keep changing numbers far as which is which...
+Aaron B I think I did accidentally reverse them once during the video. The 24 is the model I recommend, though the overall quality is nearly equal on the two models now.
It was more than once. I'm now leaving this video more confused than when I got here...
Yikes! What a mess. You should have put a post it note on them with the numbers so you could keep them straight.
Please clarify which model number is the one to get.
They are both of equal quality now
Can these be used for charging up an RV battery while camping?
I have a red one and a green one not sure of the numbers but they both work fine. Key is proper breakin and not to over load them. Take care of your tools no matter how much they cost. Been using them for off road races for last 4 years even loaned one to a race fan who's motor home gen took a sh*t, they needed to make coffee and run some lights. Nothing major in return he gave me a 100 foot heavy cord.
you were flip-flopping and the other guys asking about mixing the gas mix it in a can then pour it in Old Pro I ride a Honda CR500 but I only use VP fuel but gas applies the same
this was very helpful. i will ckheck the product number carefully. thanks
Very confusing. Why did the two models get flipped from side to side vs the boxes in the opening shot?
Oh my God this video
other than being picky on spark plug cleanliness my rig cut lucabond with a 4amp angle grinder like hot knife through butter . then drove screws to attach same to house under pinning all the same time running a fan for our comfort (did change spark cap to NGK type cap better for the inspection and service of plug cleaning at three tank fulls verry good value)
Neither come with a 12v charging cable? If not the Amazon one seems better.
In my experience it’s not worth the hassle or worry when you can swap it for one that works properly out of the box.
who care what they look like all that matters is how they run
63024 is the one!
I would just spend the extra money and get a real one haha
I have the 60324
Woohoo, I feel like Snoopy dancing with glee. I bought the 24. Woohoo.
How about you stop talking and start the thing and see how it works we get it you know what the technical words are what a waste of time
Just bought the 04 model,should I purchase a warranty?
So, what are you going to do with all those hunks of crap?!
