Can you imagine how much of a vote winner it would be if groups of zombie knife wielding youth roamed around London on cheap scooters? The UK isn’t France or the Netherlands. People won’t wear high vis. I suspect someone had a word with whoever is responsible for transport and advised them it would be an absolute sh*t show if these things were everywhere. I only use mine to about 3 times a week max and do 7 miles 3 times per week MAX depending on weather as I haven't got a IP rated scooter. How ever I can't drive and can't afford to travel all those miles as its 2 different bus companies to get from my house classed as Doncaster my dad's only 3.5 miles away is classed as Rotherham. Anyhow cut a long story short he lost most of his site to glaucoma 4 years ago and relied on my older brother who did drive "cost him a ton in fuel" a hell of a lot. Anyway my older brother lost his life 2 months ago and now I rely on my scooter to go and help him out. So if the police do take my scooter 'I will buy a car ILLEGALLY and drive it like 100s 1000s of people do, and I will tell the police officer that does take my scooter what I will do
I do agree. However I was extremely shocked a few years ago by the death of an amazing UA-camr I was following. She was crushed on a London road while riding an e-scooter. I very much blame the awful unfriendly state of London roads for this.
The Westminster government make to much money in tax from rental e scooters and they can't come anywhere close to it with private owned so that should answer everybody's questions as to why there not yet legal
Now all you need is for the 100k Electroheads subscribers to also send an email to an MP , and maybe, just maybe it'll get "considered for debate" in parliament
That’s the best and most cogent argument for private e-scooter regulation in the UK I’ve seen. Well done Will and the whole Electroheads team. Come on Sadiq Khan, ping Will a reply!!
I use my electric unicycle in the early hours of the morning to work, but i go through the marshes. Sometimes i see women and girls going to work at 3am. They can't wait at bus stop those hours. Also , saw an electrician take a scooter out of his van and off to work. Probably avoiding the congestion charge the government has imposed on everyone. And now they want another congestion charge? Also what if there's another transport strike?
I see there are numbers for injuries caused to e-scooter riders by motor vehicles, but how about injuries caused by them to pedestrians? I’m seeing near misses on a daily basis by them being ridden flat out on footpaths. Even when on roads it’s generally with total disregard for the highway code. I think the scooters are fine but do need some kind of regulation as has been previously mentioned re France
We in the uk seem to copy everything in the u.s right?? Electric bikes by law in the u.s are allowed to go 20mph! Here its 15.5 mph. It makes a big difference!
I agree, I have a Specialized Class 3 e-bike which is limited to 15.5 mph with pedal assist in the UK. In USA it’s pedal assist up to 28mph and 20 mph with a throttle. That would make e-bikes a realistic alternative to a car for local journeys
It’s not the government that demonises e-scooters; it’s the few inconsiderate people who ride them irresponsibly. They have jeopardised any chance of them being made legal. Also, if they were to be made legal, then e-bikes should be able to be propelled with just a throttle. As in USA class 3 e-bikes: 28mph with pedal assist and 20 mph with a throttle.
Just to set the scene, I have changed my thoughts over the past couple of years or so and now have Solar Panels and an EV. However, I do now believe that EV's are not as 'clean' as is being advertised by the government and that 'Net Zero' is more a way to extract taxes and restrict free movement. Also, not everyone can afford to go 'green' unless there are cheaper options available. It is absolutely crazy that 125cc motorcycles are being banned. These provide affordable transport for people to get to work to earn money and pay taxes. They are an efficient way to deliver food, medication and other items. I followed a 125 scooter delivering blood just yesterday. What is the alternative, when this ban comes into force? The obvious alternatives are electric cycles and scooters. However, I do think that you must have training and pass some sort of test and get a license for these. After all, they do have the potential to cause serious injury to both the rider and others. Also, you must 'follow the rules of the road' even on a scooter. With that in mind, compulsory insurance and some sort of registration (with a visible means of identifying the rider or machine) is needed to ensure that they are used sensibly and that any damage or injury to others is covered. Obviously, it is necessary to ensure that the law is being observed.
Was thinking that e-tubes for e-wheel and bikes would be a worthwhile thing to make for places like London. I realize they would be expensive so started working on how they could be made to pay their way. A number of things come to mind, specifically delivery and especially food delivery. To achieve this a separate track could be installed along the ceiling where autonomous delivery devices could ride. The amount of deliveries made in London must be huge so lowering their cost while delivering them faster is a huge win. The side benefit of e-wheelers getting 24x7x365 clean/dry/safe transit tubes is a bonus! Right on with the campaign, I would suggest e-wheel training/classes and licenses as well. Also renewed car licenses and training for how to drive with e-wheelers/bikes. Thanks for the great editing work as well!
You're forgetting the white elephant in the room!. E-Scooters don't generate road tax for the Govt!. - I'm sure if there's tax involved it won't be an issue!
I'd support those scooters if the majority I've seen are ridden so badly and dangerously with no care for other users of roads and pavements. Love how people openly flout the law and just ride them anyhow. You are taking the right approach to getting them legalised and writing to the relevant authorities. Hopefully with that will come with better quality of driving/operation.
Unfortunately it's not up to the Mayor it's govt parliament. The govt blocked my registered escooter from getting insurance. As I said before, i have a fully registered escooter i used to use without concern as it was registered and insured the one year it was just removed by all insurance companies it just makes nonsense. In the USA they are riding 50 + mph scooters here we cant even get 15 mph, meanwhile 200 mph cars are killing people.
@@chukidee6634 Yes it had a number plate I used to ride with the number plate as it was insured with my motorcycle, but as I said oddly enough they scratched it from insurance companies. And no I'm not going to put photos of it on UA-cam I think that is what got me in to difficulty in the first place someone wanted info about it as they had the same scooter and couldn't get insurance for theirs, so I gave them my insurance company and the next thing I new they stopped insuring them, and so did everyone else. It's a basic scooter was sold as a road legal scooter, I got registration, number plate everything then bang a registered vehicle that can't get insurance.
@@flitsiesI'm sorry to hear all that. I didn't mean put your photos publicly online, I meant send them to me privately. If sent to me, you can scribble out the actual plate number without scribbling out the yellow plate. I wish to see what it looked like. Please.
@@chukidee6634 it's an evo nothing special, 1000 watts you can upgrade to I believe 1800 watts my one does about 20/25 mph with the upgrade it could go up to about 40 mph. But i did not need that much speed on a little scooter, I have a motorcycle which can go upwards of 130 plus which I never do haha right. The point Is they simply black listed the scooter after It was registered and had several years insurance on it, but after escooters became popular. So it was a deliberate act against escooters as my motorcycle insurance did not change as I have many years no claims. The insurance used to be a nominal fee for the scooter hardly worth them charging me it was so low.
Great video and agree. There are people struggling financially, we have very difficult emissions targets to reach, pollution effects the nations health putting more stress on the NHS and look at the state of the roads and how much they cost with all the wear and tear from all the heavy motor vehicles. Legalizing All micromobility startiinh with scooters is the answer! 🤦♂️😀
I wsa tengentially involved with the e-bike rental scheme in Leicester, and after lots of effort putting infrastructure in place, it went bust. Picking up and dropping off at defined locations with limited availability, and cost just killed it. E-Scooters solve all that, and if we had some common sense laws (lights, bells, all the French stuff you mentioned) I'd be all for private ownership and operation.
All the government care about is money... You'd think with Sadiq's new ULEZ zone, he would be happy to see a reduction in cars, and an increase in scooters... But no, this is all a money making scheme for him, as he is well aware people cannot afford to upgrade their cars. I for one, would rather quit work, and find a new job that pays less that put money in his pocket.
End of the day it's how they regulate the riders and how they ride these modes of transport. And of course if the UK do legalise privately owned e-scooters then Electroheads' sales of them will sky rocket.🤔
The UK is a joke all over and this law is one joke. Yes make it to where to have to ride responsibly but don't make a personal owned one illegal. I'm getting an electric skateboard as ive not read theyre illegal but i can just ride it like a regular skateboard if i do see police just incase they want to be a prick. I'm so over using public transport as it adds up in price and tired of waiting around for it.
As an E-bike rider whos fed up with trying to get the heavy clunky bike going from the off in the middle of crazy traffic, before the motor kicks in, and before a car hits me. If E-scooters get made legal, then throttle control on bikes better get made legal. Cause you don't see pedal assist on a scooter.
Khan is a “see you next Tuesday!” Just look at how the ULEZ is currently going, it’s all about money! How much are you willing to pay to use your scooter in London? The other problem is he hasn’t got the power to change laws. You’re better off contacting the transportation secretary Rt Hon Mark Harper MP.
Tbh I see at least one electric scooter rider a day here in London. The law doesn’t look like it’s stopping everybody it’s better for everyone to just legalise it
The absolutely last thing that needs legalising these things. And France is probably going to ban them because they’re ridiculously dangerous. What they’re not is safer than bikes…
@@iainamurray because this is the UK gov we are on about. If everyone is using scooters/bikes then how will they fill the gap from lower passengers on trains/busses not to mention the congestion charge
I did had kuggo g booster get stopped by police more then I get stopped on car or motocycle pretty much every time I use it to commute to work .I hope they get legalized soon ...had to sell it because of risk to be impounded
Sadiq Khan will never do that as he has more money from renting companies. This does not make any sense rental one are legal but private are illegal. They will have more money if they will make it legal.
Real talk guys. If eye lash left electroheads and started making content for her own channel your viewing data would take a dive and tall eye would make enough money to wear clean white sneakers. Count your ruddy blessings you have her. Also one point against Billie is she really was unfair to that van driver when we all know her friend was at fault, mostly for being her friend. Thanks all. Be lucky.
I have a Solar P1 I bought for a literal mobility scooter, as in poor breathing, poor walking ability, I have anxiety riding it due to the law yet have full car and motorcycle license and road sense. Surely the law is impacting on my human rights? It is not the escooter, the moped, the e bike, the skateboard, the one wheel, that are dangerous it is the user, a car kills someone every day but is obviously legal. Do we just take all the limiting of our lives, the soon to be trialled 15 minute cities, having a fixed number of journeys per year we are granted/allowed to take? Or do we say, sorry enough is enough and actually start to claw back our freedoms. My grandads brother fought in WW1 in the machinegun corps, he lost most of his friends there and believed he was protecting future generations so they would have a freer life. Look how corrupted the law as become, one law for us and a big ignore the law from them, the gov. Sorry but I have had it with being subservient. Respect
3:29 where's that data from? I read the PACTS report and it all points to more danger from studies in multiple countries. Only naturally since the wheels are so tiny and the rake is so shallow. Also I don't think the Mayor can legalise a type of vehicle anyway, it's up to the government, that would be pretty silly if you could get points on your license for riding a scooter on one section of road and then if you passed the border into greater london you couldn't lol
I am 53 , I ride the pavement at a easy pace and respect people walking on it . If I see the police I get off and walk , so far I haven't had a problem with the police and feel it is down to how you present yourself and how you ride it .
Buy they want you to spend all your money, on petrol, bus fares, train tickets etc. Thats the problem, that’s why they don’t like WFH or e-mobility, if you and everyone else stops using TFL, who pays for the busses, bus drivers and underground system?
Tax is the main reason ,people with full driving car licences already know how to ride safely are un able to ride pollution free scooters, going with out food and a place to live nothing much said about that .any loss of possible revenue to the government not a chance
Although the mayor can’t make e-scooters legal he could tell the police not to prioritise prosecution and confiscations except for those being ridden recklessly.
its going in the right direction But 85% of people wont commute on E-Anything in wintry weather (FACT) I commute 30 miles 50km on my 250w E-bike throughout winter and i am just about sick of the wind & rain and the cold right now so even i have been using the train to travel these last couple of weeks into London and the bike lane system in this city is pretty crap for example Westminster bridge cycle lane becomes a tourist sitting area in summer and many cycle lanes just end , leaving me on dangerous bits of road and the Mayor who is a real Nightmare will only employ money making schemes . would all of the cheap scooters you recommend Pass stringent safety checks I would definitely pick a Scooter over an E-bike and the beauty of E- transport is that when you encounter traffic you can hop off and navigate around it . Big fan of the channel it was because of the channels review of the Volt London E-bike that i went a got one in September last year and have currently covered 2800 miles /4500Km all the best Electroheads
Friends of the Earth, ClientEarth and the Good Law Project have taken the government to court over climate change inaction. They may be willing to help legalise e-scooters.
Didn’t the belated Queen mention in her speech that scooters would be reviewed during the year 2022-2023. Has this happened ? Did the government only see fit that “rented” scooters are okay on our roads just not ones you can buy yourself.
Can’t see it happening. The public don’t want these things hurtling around on the footpaths and motorists and cyclists don’t want them on the roads. Some cities could partially cater for them but the road networks elsewhere are not suitable. You just have to look how illegal scooters are used to imagine what would happen with a free for all scenario.
People want shiny new things. Perhaps if electric scooters were legal, instead of buying two tonnes of electric car to commute in, they would by a scooter instead that is several orders of magnitude better for the environment and doesn’t contribute to the exact same congestion that electric cars are not a solution for (unless they’re micro cars).
I used to be for legalising. However I bought a scooter from Halfords where I assumed it would be as safe as could be due to them championing legalisation. I went out one evening, hit a stone, flew off and didn’t even have the chance to put my hands out before I knocked my front tooth clean out. 3 grand of dental treatment later… they need to seriously consider the safety of them in my opinion.
I appreciate what you went through but at the same time, that just sounds like an unfortunate accident. The same could have happened on a bicycle or tripping going up some stairs.
@@benglasgow and this was always my attitude when asked, “it could have happened on a bicycle” but the reality is, it would have been more unlikely. I can’t explain how unstable it was, I was going perhaps 10mph, a tiny stone hit the front wheel and the scooter stopped immediately, back end went up and swung me straight towards the ground. I do still feel they have a place but there certainly is some fundamental design flaws with the current ones that need addressing before I can view them as safe. A legal size for their wheels would be a good start
@@Mikepragland perhaps, but it could have also been down to riding style or something else. I just don’t think it’s fair to damn them for a freak accident.
Pleased to meet you Will. Eilis will tell you about my reservations about e-scooters...tldr they really must be kept away from buses and other large vehicles. However today on the local news someone was horribly injured in a fire which killed his dog whose barking saved him from dying. It was caused by an exploding e-scooter battery. Rather than make me even more against them it made me think that if they were properly regulated we wouldn't have these shoddy illegal machines in people's houses causing such devastation. So I hope you get an answer from the mayor but if they are to be legalised part of the campaign must be to stop sharing streets with buses... e-scooters are invisible to them from so many angles. 👍
I wanted to use the escooter rental scheme for the last few miles of my commute into York city centre. Unfortunately the nearest scooters are 15 minutes walk from the park and ride car park, they’re also the same cost as just taking a taxi the same distance!
I don't know who you Electroheads will vote for this election, but if you want green transportation then you should vote for the Green Party. They're promising to make public transport affordable and introduce micro mobility. I'm a Green Party voter!
Hi mate, did your fully registered e-scooter have a licence plate?
Could you send me some pics of your registered e-scooter?
@@flitsies The deliberate act you mention is something that was also mentioned to me elsewhere
The current situation where only official hire schemes for electric scooters are legal is a legacy of Mayor Boris Johnson not Sadiq Khan.
Emobility is not just Londontowncentric but good luck anyway in getting any response from Mr Khan
3:34 Love the E-horse character, more of this, please!
Be careful what you wish for. The E-Horse is a force to be reckoned with.
@@Electroheads make it so!
In Portugal you can use electric scooters
Hi Will, just wanna say that I love the way you edit videos, the memes and cutaways are always hilarious 😂
The only way they will allow people to ride these legally is they somehow get payment for people using them, prob some sort of tax I guess 😢
Why do you imagine that? Bikes and ebikes aren't charged directly. The law needs to change to categorise them properly.
@@iainamurray because this is the UK gov we are on about. If everyone is using scooters/bikes then how will they fill the gap from lower passengers on trains/busses not to mention the congestion charge
…Rishi Sunak’s father-in-law, was involved in the Government’s emergency alert system.
No money to be made in letting people ride their own scooters…
I think I need an e-scooter, an off-road capable one for Highland roads [...researching, and etc]
I did had kuggo g booster get stopped by police more then I get stopped on car or motocycle pretty much every time I use it to commute to work .I hope they get legalized soon ...had to sell it because of risk to be impounded
Well done. Hope you get a response; hope they’re legalized.
Thanks all. Be lucky.
At last, someone presenting with a proper accent!!
Respect
If they are legalised they need to be controlled. No pavement riding with power. Mandatory insurance and helmets. And strict speed limit controls.
Isn't it parliament that would have to legislate for this? That would also help those mad fools who don't live in London, like me!
I've been riding my e scooter around london with no problems at all but i dont go round driving fast and not all over the place
If I had an electric scooter back in college, it would have been way easier getting across campus. And an e-bike could have replaced my car.
Is this in London?
I am 67 and use one the same way you are using your's 🙂

Buy they want you to spend all your money, on petrol, bus fares, train tickets etc. Thats the problem, that’s why they don’t like WFH or e-mobility, if you and everyone else stops using TFL, who pays for the busses, bus drivers and underground system?
Nice first video - well done.
Will. Talk to me of that sim racing setup 😂
Yeeeees we need more Will. Amazing video👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
With that extra £1000 you could pay for the electricity to charge your scooter each day
Tax is the main reason ,people with full driving car licences already know how to ride safely are un able to ride pollution free scooters, going with out food and a place to live nothing much said about that .any loss of possible revenue to the government not a chance
Love this channel.
We love YOU!
Although the mayor can’t make e-scooters legal he could tell the police not to prioritise prosecution and confiscations except for those being ridden recklessly.
It's not down to him though. It will need an Act of Parliament. Can you email Rishi?
This episode was fun!! Well done Will.
Good one, enjoyed this. Good job Will...
Will, welcome to the presenting team. Time to get a new editor!
Good job Will. Let's hope Sadiq at least has the decency to reply
its going in the right direction But 85% of people wont commute on E-Anything in wintry weather (FACT)
I commute 30 miles 50km on my 250w E-bike throughout winter and i am just about sick of the wind & rain and the cold right now so even i have been using the train to travel these last couple of weeks into London and the bike lane system in this city is pretty crap for example Westminster bridge cycle lane becomes a tourist sitting area in summer and many cycle lanes just end , leaving me on dangerous bits of road and the Mayor who is a real Nightmare will only employ money making schemes .
would all of the cheap scooters you recommend Pass stringent safety checks
I would definitely pick a Scooter over an E-bike and the beauty of E- transport is that when you encounter traffic you can hop off and navigate around it .
Big fan of the channel
it was because of the channels review of the Volt London E-bike that i went a got one in September last year and have currently covered 2800 miles /4500Km
all the best Electroheads
So I damaged my spine and got one to help me get around. Its brilliant and life changing for me .. yet its illegal because ??? Makes no sense ..
If we add pedals and a seat to an electric scooter can we identify it as an electric bicycle?
Nice job.
Love the gags!
Loving the new guy!!!
Bring it on Will
Good one!
Please ask him to take a long walk as well mate....
The daily mail, is a rag.
Is there a follow up to this if there is a response to this email
Loved this Vid and big up Will, please be on more uploads bud. Liked your style
Much appreciated man, I plan to be!
@@Electroheads Why are you not allowed to use your own electric scooter, only the ones you rent on the street? That seems very fishy to me.
I should also say that Sadiq Khan might not win the next mayor election, so it will not just be down to him, but whoever the new mayor of London is.
