Beautiful car. What steering wheel hub is on the car, it’s looks almost stock as far as distance to the driver where most hubs extend the wheel closer to the driver usually. Thanks in advance
all new cars are automatic, the subquential is only a electronic mecanism to shift to low drive, 2nd, ect ............... same mechanism its jst now more expensive, and torque bodys are upgraded... at the end, its all about modding, transplates.... u can turn a 200hp kia into a 600hp car w/ the right transmission. well it will go as fast as a 600hp car
35 yrs. Old and I drive a 400whp swapped 2.5rs and daily a stock (but clean) civic vx HB. I know what he means when he says he felt embarrassed driving around in a dinky old civic at first lol.
Built an EF sedan when I was in high school (mid 1990's) with a B16 and a Jackson supercharger, was fortunate enough to have it in a couple of the "racewars" scenes in the 1st Fast and Furious movie, it was filmed at Norton AFB in San Bernadino, so alot of those cars were local kids / friends of mine... damn I miss the 90's lol
My friend was actually in the movie, he is kissing his girlfriend at race wars, they broke up and she currently lives a couple houses down from me. His car was in the movie but his car was kinda lame lol. He still brags about being in the movie. Lol
Ay don’t disrespect my boy Jon Chase like that. He’s OG and been doing all the Hoonigan art and capturing the Hoonigan vibe better than anyone else could.
Gotta agree that finding the parts is the fun bit. Im building a 91 CRX replica of a famous Australian Show Car (Cyber1 to those who know) And hunting for 20 year old Period Correct parts has been an absolute blast. Ive picked up some parts insanely cheap and others I've paid ungodly amounts for, but its the hunt that Ive enjoyed most
Wow, that’s so cool to see that Kenji is still at GReddy after all these years! I met him back in 2000 when I had my Integra GSR up in their Irvine shop to fine tune the GReddy turbo kit. Really cool dude and I was stoked to just have my car worked on by these guys. I think I was one of the first to have the GReddy turbo kit in the US and it wasn’t even meant for my 00’ GSR, it was tuned for the 97’-99’ GSR’s so my 00’ GSR ecu harness was different and their piggy back computer wasn’t working. The guys at GReddy sorted everything for me and I enjoyed that boosted GSR for over 100k miles of trouble free good times!
This guy is so genuine, he really knows about these things, and whole build was well thought out.. and He remembers everyone's name that helped. My Fav episode hands down.
The whole time ya'll were talking, I was imagining a road trip in that Civic. Well back to the garage for me, inspiration struck again, thx Larry &n Genji!
I’m 43 and currently have a mk5 supra and tesla m3p but I love driving around in my sons 1990 ef civic hatch. It has 200k miles on the original d15. When I first bought it for him I was a little embarrassed driving it too but I love the nostalgia driving it. And because it’s his first car that we worked on together to get it running he absolutely loves it and it’s something he’ll remember for the rest of his life
I grew up in Santa Barbara driving my mom's EF with my buddies. I knew I liked that car then but didn't really know why. Once old enough I went 1966 Galaxie 390cid, 1969 Camaro, then 240Z which I turned into a turbo car. I now have an RSX-S (Frankenstein with bolts-ons, S-oil pump, stock looking condition). That EF brings back memories, man. I used to throw the E-brake into corners and dirt and race the shit out of that poor Honda. It NEVER skipped a beat, and my mom would run it with black oil when it was so low it didn't even show on the dip stick. The car was finally totaled when she was struck by two cars, one from the right, then one speeding up from behind her. I never thought I'd wish she still had that old sled.
The EF9 SIR got me into tuning as well about 7 years ago, yesterday I bought another EF9 and am starting to build it ❤️ literally my favourite cars ever
I have this same car, but stock. I'm also friends with all the guys in my area with EFs, too. There's nothing like cruising as a group. People's eyes just BUG OUT, when they see multiple EFs rollin'. Hahaha. Topping off the evening with homemade sushi and beer with the EF squad, is the perfect way to bring back that 90s Japanese life.
I like the subtle stance on this Civic. For me the EF, EK, EG and WagoVan Civic models are my favorites. Not just my favorite Civic models, but among my favorite cars in general.
As I watched this, I thought to myself “Damn, that Hot Wheels car looks SO familiar!” Then I went and looked through my collection, and I realized that I HAVE ONE! I also have the Boost Brigade custom ‘01 Acura Integra GSR! Both are still in the bubble package! I’m glad I always stop by the Hot Wheels isle when I go shopping!
I had that same built B18C engine and the old integra Greddy turbo kit, Racing Heart C5 in my Imola Orange Pearl 98 Civic coupe, it got stolen... I was so pissed but I've moved on to bigger and better things.. always a place in my heart for these cars... great shoot!!!
Canada here...soooo sweeet! Basically the story of the two squirrels...both go to Grand Canyon...one goes to the other side...it lives a different life over there...but, they are both still squirrels... more or less the story goes... to have an Asian gentleman speaking correctly on the topic, showing so much respect to the Honda vision... wether JDM or North American... that's Honda to a T! P.s. iPad, UA-cam music, airplay to tv...stereo w tape deck connected by rca to TV...record new music mixes on tape baby! Respect...one love!
Used to have an 89 EF I swapped a GSR drivetrain into. Chose a hydraulic kit that had the master cylinder actuator mounted to the clutch pedal. I was upside down under the dash with a hand wrench for several hours during Winter in a barn. I will never forget the pain but I bloody still miss that car.
Man that brings back memories! I had a '91 EF that I painted black with silver Konig 7 spoke 17" wheels and slammed it with some forgotten coilovers. Needless to say, but any kind of speedbump or railroad crossing was an excersize in patience. I was a car audio installer at the time, and squeezed 4 12's in the rear hatch, built custom kick panel pods for 6.5" mids, and sank the tweeters in the top of the door panels. That was a fun car!
My EF story is almost exactly like Kenjis! I had an 89 DX (manual thank god) in high school. Neuspeed springs and Sebring exhaust haha and yes a big JL 12 in the back. Blew the 1.5 SOHC DPFI and swapped in a ZC DOHC. Got into drifting, sold the EF and bought an s13 and AE86. Still got TONS of love for the EF and hope I win the lotto someday to build another one lol
This would be a dream build for me too. My dad worked for Honda for most of my life and we went through multiple Civics over the years. Earliest one I remember was an '89 DX Hatchback. Manual everything, no radio, no AC, vinyl seats that burned you in the summer. I loved that car, though. One of the first cars I bought when I was old enough was a '91 Si and I hate myself every day for letting it go. I'm still sitting on all the SiR conversion parts for it, so I hope I can find another one some day. The Si's have gotten few and far between, and the ones you do find are either pristine ones for an ungodly price, or they're complete rust buckets. Saw one on Autotrader the other day with 43K miles on it and the listed price was $23,000...
We had the exactly same spec in Europe. The JDM SiR was called the 1.6 i-VT, with the 150bhp B16 A1 engine. Great little car, they used to be plentiful and dirt cheap a few years, but now good luck finding one now.
J spec parts are the best. All the HOP are like a treasure hunt for the true Honda lover. Even now 10 years after my ej1 I still like going to the pick a part to try to find some rare goodies sometimes people don’t even know what they have or what they’re worth .
The EF Civic hatchback was designed by geniuses. They're already 30 years old and will be known as 'classic cars', in the same way as American cars from the 50s-60s. Maybe the best Honda ever. Get yours now because the values WILL go up.
Damn I would have never guessed we would get an autofocus on an ef since you just kind of glazed over Alex’s in ATL. But Kenji’s is next level so I’m glad you got to shoot this Larry. My favorite cars of all time ❤️
I have this HotWheel too. Sometimes you forget that most of those cars are real cars too so I was really hyped seeing the thumbnail to this video. Awesome car and great build.
You judging him and probably borrowing your moms Toyota Prius cus you a broke ass hater lmao nothing worse then a hater behind a keyboard that could NEVER do anything close to this 👎🏼👎🏼
@@smokiegwuapo3920 I have a b18c4 swapped EK buddy, are you projecting? Im not judging him, im telling him to not give a fuck what others say, live for your self not others.
Had an 80's CRX-Si in the 80s and highly admired these Civic Si hatchbacks! Also had a white RX-7 FC.....did you see that thing in the background being shot....that thing is gorgeous too!
Larry you need to find the time when this blows over to Interview and shoot Wayne Denman’s CRX. The decal on Genji’s EF that says “just a Japanese Hot Rod” is from him and he has the most amazing CRX of all time. Please read this!
I love this so much.. one of my best mates had a couple of these when we first startes driving and when I had my Prelude. Bringing back all the memories.. Thank you.. what a special build.
I’m not sure that this guy realises how awesome he is so humble he should know he’s a genius love this car can’t believe he referred to himself as lazy 😂👍
I have a 96 RL fully built with all custom parts spent 10 years building it it is pushing 800 hp and 775 tq with a 94 legend MT and diff case with a custom lsd a custom interior and a stock exterior it is a twin turbo with the newest turbo design's the engine is a c35a1with sleeves from a acura nsx then board over to be compatible with my custom forged pistons lightened rods lightened balanced crankshaft shaft with flywheel rods pistons and balancer pulley all together and custom oil pump with custom balance shaft made specifically for my buld that's the short block. The heads are stock heads with a very aggressive port and polish to a mirror shine, custom MLS hedgaskit's biger valve's for intake and exoust, custom one of a kind eletronic "vtec" system on a c35a1 engine a non vtec motor, custom valve train components, two spring's on every valve with titanium valve spring washer's with keeper's huge intake with dual 150mm throttle body and a customized ac evaporator runing in a separate loop from the cars ac system using propane it is a air to ac system, going to exoust it has 3.5" exoust going from the turbo's, the waste gate gets fed back into the 3.5" exoust with one way vacum valve's going to a large resonator then to a small expansion box then to a verex exoust Muffler, the transmission is a custom built 6 speed that had to be rebuilt 3 times. I am also working on making my car a hybrid by using a s2000 differential and a eletronic motor for the rear probably using the same forged and billet CV axle's I made for the front I know nobody's is ever going to read this but I just like to hear what anyone would think of my buld. full respect for anyone who actually build's there own cars and not just buying outher people's build's like all project cars it is not to sell the car or to make money but the fun you get and the experience you have when you buld it yourself and are able to enjoy what you have made because you know you have spent probably 100 times what the car is worth you better enjoy it my car has cost me 450,000 to buld and raising. What is yours? Have a good day car people
“It’s very hard to find these parts..” just thinking of my dad, with a 1924 BSA. He had to search for 3 years and find a seller in Holland to get an exhaust valve spring. One day it’ll run. One day.
It's funny. A cop pulled me over once for license plate lights issue (no ticket). He asked me why I was in my 30's driving a 90's Subaru. Because 90's cars are awesome! Haha
It's totally awesome to have Hot Wheels of your own car I just have a teal one and a 78 month with an 81 Accord motor in it but they both need a lot of love
I'm not a Honda guy but I really like the boxy design of the EF same with the lines of the EG but only the hatchbacks this video shows how a tuned civic should be modified its so clean I would love to import a Civic EF or EG hatchback with a GSR B18C under the hood It was only available in Japan and its the father of the Type R the B18C for the japanese market came with N/A B18C with stock 192hp no joke same with the Japanese Integra Type R speaking as the owner of a MR2 AW11 and a Miata NA

I'm 50 and drive a modified CRX and love it.
Keep it old-school, Harley.
35 yrs. Old and I drive a 400whp swapped 2.5rs and daily a stock (but clean) civic vx HB. I know what he means when he says he felt embarrassed driving around in a dinky old civic at first lol.
Harley you got a piece of gold
I’m 37 and drive a modded 2015 Regal GS, don’t care what others think I love the car
Crx are the second best looking Honda behind the nsx
Never be ashamed or embarrassed of a car because of your age. Thats a beautiful build, keep doing your thing. Respect
Embarrassed driving a lovingly modded and quick vintage car? You're living the life. Don't buy into the modern car bias. Build it, drive it, love it.
I totally agree 👍 , it's your life , do what your wanna do , just don't break the Law. Be True to yourself!!! 👍

So cool! The 90´s must have been something special

I had a 91 4 door also. Not as cool as yours but it was mine and loved it. I've always had a special place for the old EF's
I used to have an 88 ef sedan and loved that thing
seriously this is one of the best examples of what an EF build should be
Sadly alot of good interiors got trashed due to the light weight/track look smh
Those wheels are crazy dope, this whole car is absolutely gorgeous.
Larry should be art director for everything hoonigan. These episodes are dope
He's super talented.
I agree, it's ridiculous. Having insane cars to talk about also helps tho haha. It wouldn't be the same if he was talking about a factory 2020 SiR
Larry been out there working, going the distance, putting in the hours, the guy is a beast putting out all this amazing content
Nads is more fun to watch though when it comes to Hondas and Acuras

i agree, the late 80's early 90's taillights were almost always on point. Accords, Civics, CRX, supra, skyline, MR-2. almost all of em looked good

Larry Chen you do some amazing interviews, an all in one package. It just feels like two car guys talking with the up most quality.
Me and my buddy, grew up loving the EF platform, something about the square back end, is just cool to us!
I love 90's cars!

My EF got me into the scene as well. Ended up swapping in a JDM D15B engine and a bunch of go-fast bits. Was such an amazing car. No power steering!
More EF Civics PLEASE! Keep up the great work
THIS!

The EF9 SIR got me into tuning as well about 7 years ago, yesterday I bought another EF9 and am starting to build it ❤️ literally my favourite cars ever

Ef is so underated. So many peeps want an eg or an ek. But dont realize the beauty of a classic clean ef

Started my OBSESSION in '93, been Addicted to JDM EVER SINCE......
So clean and not over done. Takes me back to the 90’s import days

I remember rolling out of the movie theater, after watching F&F, in my 91 hb, thinking ohh the possibilities!!(cream 4 speed, slow a.f.)
That model year civic started my import tuner life back in the 90s is
This is the best EF Civic there is. Change my mind.
One of the most gorgeous EFs I've ever seen and those wheels are literally perfect for this car.
Dam Larry !!! Amazing year 90's Honda. Greddy is what I remeber when it comes down to companies that are local.
This car is done the right way, no oversized wheels and messed up camber. I love this car!
Had an EF back in the day with all mugen parts! brings back memories plus the middle clock/ac vent came out and was the perfect stash spot!
Not many people care about the fourth gens but it's the first civic with independent suspension. Glad to see the eflove being spread!
I had a 90 EF Si that was boosted back in 99-2000. What a great car that was. Kids these days just don't know about the Alpine pull out boy!! LOL
We had the exactly same spec in Europe. The JDM SiR was called the 1.6 i-VT, with the 150bhp B16 A1 engine. Great little car, they used to be plentiful and dirt cheap a few years, but now good luck finding one now.
Wow what a great car. If I had one or still had one I would of done the same. Also very nice how he kept a b series and didn't go with a k. A+ built
J spec parts are the best.

Omg this build is sooo super nice. So clean, stock, factory fresh, improving on the totally stock design, retaining the original manufacturers spirit
The EF civic hatch was my first car. And my ultimate favorite civic ever made
That's a gorgeous car and I am glad that he's kept this car for all the years that he has. Good review and presentation.

More embarrassing than driving a 90's honda hatchback at 46 is letting other peoples opinion dictate what you do ;)

Lord have mercy... old school folks will salivate over this. Loving this. Well executed vehicle and video

Reminds of fun times in my EF8 CRX SiR. Mugen rocker cover, steering wheel and CF-48s with carbon fibre aerodiscs.
*Thank you,as always Larry, for just straight up killing the game*
*keep being the best*
amazing job. I love that he kept the alpine cassette pullout deck. mad props to kenji

That intercooler airbox is the coolest thing I've seen on a import in years, super clean, looks like its stock, but it isnt,,totally awesome..

I hope I can get my hands on one after college. Been wanting one since my father sold his EF sedan 8 years ago
Absolutely mint motor in every aspect. He’s done a top job! Thanks a lot for showing us!

full respect for anyone who actually build's there own cars and not just buying outher people's build's like all project cars it is not to sell the car or to make money but the fun you get and the experience you have when you buld it yourself and are able to enjoy what you have made because you know you have spent probably 100 times what the car is worth you better enjoy it my car has cost me 450,000 to buld and raising. What is yours? Have a good day car people
“It’s very hard to find these parts..” just thinking of my dad, with a 1924 BSA. He had to search for 3 years and find a seller in Holland to get an exhaust valve spring. One day it’ll run. One day.
I had a ‘91 EF civic Si and loved it. Want to get another but easier to build a EG or EK these days
I missed my dx back in the 90s all of a sudden.... thank u for making this happen!
It's funny. A cop pulled me over once for license plate lights issue (no ticket). He asked me why I was in my 30's driving a 90's Subaru. Because 90's cars are awesome! Haha
That's the nicest EF I've ever seen. Mad props! 👍👍
It sure is. My favorite of all time ef hatch. Boom mic drop. Prove me wrong.
He's 48?! All that rice and Ramen is working it's magic XD

It's totally awesome to have Hot Wheels of your own car I just have a teal one and a 78 month with an 81 Accord motor in it but they both need a lot of love

I have been really digging this content lately, binging a lot of episodes. Truly magnificent cars and videography.
Thank you guys, it's a Beauty! 🤓👍
Nice.....I have a 90 si....as my daily...and an 05 ep3...I would love to do this exact set up.... enjoy it bro.....we only live once.....
That thing is gorgeous!! My first car was a EF si hatch.. I miss it! Need to build another 😂
1. I love this car. 2. This turbo setup is wild.

That air to water setup is Super Dope!!!
Amazing civic! Makes me appreciate my EF even more, these are getting truly rare (Europe)
