I seen what you did there at 18:33 if you cut all 4 of those 1/4" rubber pads the exact same size and use the same size self-tapping screws and washers, when you install it on the impeller blades instead of overlapping a 1/4" hold all four pads back a 1/16" from the inside housing... All 4 impeller blades would be equally balanced, and you will have no issues with damaging any other mechanical parts. Keep up the good work you make it look easy to do. Thanks for the tip on fixing that surging motor.
Thanks, helpful video. The smallest drill bit I have is a 1mm. It worked. As far as the bolt by the pulley, I notched out the cover plate with a dremel.
Great idea with the dremel part! Since these machines aren’t mine I don’t modify them in that sense. When I get them for a Resale I will keep that truck in mind! When warmer weather hits don’t forget the paint where you dremeled so it doesn’t rust and rot away. Hopefully you are still in fix it mode! Now is a great time to change the oil and service the rest of the machine! I also dare you modify the impeller for increased performance! I also have those videos on those as well! Don’t mind me asking…where are you located and did you get snow this year?
I am in Southeast Pennsylvania. North of Philadelphia. I bought it in 2014. I used it last week for the first time in 3 years. I did paint the metal cover. Now I have a new problem; the hand grip heaters are not working. I thought it was a silly accessory until they quit working and my fingers froze! I'll check on that impeller modification.
Picked one of these up used this year. Put a new carb in it and was cured for about a week then back at it. Ran across your video and was about try what you suggested but since it was a brand new carb I decided to do some more diagnostic work. Ended up being the little filter inside tank was almost fully clogged so was starving the bowl at times. Sounded exactly like your video. Cheers and thanks for your recommendation!
Thanks for sharing, only once I had to clean those filters. That was on an EXTREMELY rusted tank. I would have replaced the tank but a storm was on the way and customer needed the machine. I had the Mrs clean the tank (video on that LOL) and I left the filter out. Told them when the storm is over bring it back for a tank. Never heard back
Great video! Mine surged for years. Even after new plugs and oil changes. This fall after I changed the oil, my 2410 only takes .6 quarts btw, I also spent the extra dollar to get an NGK spark plug. I also added about 4oz of Saa Foam to my non-oxygenated gas. It started first pull and runs perfectly now. May want to try that before taking everything apart.
Amazes me how many people think spark plugs fix everything. "My tire is flat so I changed the spark plug but it didn't help." lol Just my opinion but I find Berryman Chemtool is better than Seafoam and cheaper. It resurrected two snowblowers for me that were in rough shape after having the fuel valve left open all year long. I used to use Seafoam but it got crazy expensive and honestly didn't seem to do much.
It Cleaned Up Pretty Well! Covered in Dust and Dirt! Didn't want anything to get in the carb when I open the machine up! Plus I always return a machine cleaner than it was when I got it!

Great video, thank you for sharing. You mentioned you had a video to adjust the distance the snow gets thrown vs the standard it comes from store, can you share a link for that? I've got a Troy Built 2840. Ran perfect till yesterday and started to surge/ sputter.
I have a Troy Bilt 2620 that's been running good since 2013 until recently. I opened it up with my 1mm bit and I think it's running too rich and still surging, soot on the spark plug after short runs. Any idea what size the idle jet hole is in these?
@pattayperformance Ok thanks. It's weird that the end of the spark plug looks black after short runs now. The surge improved after opening it up but it is still there. I have a couple replacement idle jets coming tomorrow, one of them is #35 (0.35mm maybe?), from Amazon that I'll try before anything else. I may have stored it with 10% ethanol over the summer but still used stabilizer. Like others have said, it doesn't surge when throwing snow, only when idling.
@ take carb off and apart and clean it. Problem still persists open the idle circuit till it stops. Black spark plug is too much fuel that’s a main jet issue
I'm in Canada, just bought a brand new troy built snow blower and it's surging like crazy. I can't open the choke or the throttle all the way. I can get it to idle correctly by micro adjusting both the throttle and the choke but I'm going to try your fix for sure. How exact does the drill bit size have to be?
The idle circuit for the most part is emissions...open that sucker up. Before I got a micro drill bit set I was drilling them out! I figure after I did a few of them I needed to get the proper tools! The drill bit you need is a .0225. At the price point of buying one drill better off with the set and holding tool.
Sea Foam......Sea Foam......Sea Foam. After cleaning or replacing carb, use Sea Foam in every fill up of your snow blower gas can. I used it for years with good results. I use Sea Foam in all my machines. Keeps them starting and running every season.

But his may be from old gas from last year i plan to drain tank put some high octane in and it works for mine ,but any thoughts why the big troy built like you have in video wont run with out choke??
