Great video! I hope you liked Genk. The stadium is so far from the city center because it was originally the stadium of THOR Waterschei, one of the precedessors of KRC Genk. The football club Waterschei was originally for the miners, maybe you have seen the mine not far from the stadium. Mining has made the city big, it was so important for Genk and the region. Stvv and Genk hate eachother since 1991, when they played eachother at the penultimate game of the season. Both teams needed a point to avoid relegation, but Genk won, sent Stvv to second division and our fans molested their stadium and city center after the game. It was mental. The atmosphere at home games is usually a bit sloppy, but you should visit the return Stvv - Genk which is in fact the real derby. The away section will go absolutely mental. There's pyro off and on the pitch, fire in the stands and pure hatred between the fans.
I went to the same game as you did yesterday. Because Belgium is a small country, I also went to the Walloon Derby. That was Standard de Liege against Sporting de Charleroi. It was a 45 minutes drive from Genk to Liege. The Walloon Derby had a way better atmosphere.
Good to meet you on the train south on Saturday Josh (the Gills fans), I'd strongly suggest Belgian football - with some mad old school stadiums and great beer beginning with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels.
Great to see more exciting action from outside the big 5 European leagues. The fans are amazing and the passion for their teams plays through the screen.
One of the Genk goalscorere,Jarne Steuckers is a STVV youth product that Genk bought from them this summer They also bought Matte Smets from STVV as well As a Standard Liège fan 😂😂😂
Belgian football matches are not as crazy as some derby's in England, Italy or Spain but it's very cozy and there's a nice atmosphere. Here you can go to games with your children. Our referees are known for not being the best level in Europe tho lmao. As a Belgian myself I defenitely recommend Anderlecht vs Standard & Beerschot vs Antwerp. Especially the latter is the most legendary derby in the country and also the most hate between the fans which goes back to the 1910's.
This deby in the 90s and begin nillys at the old stayen stadion was crazy . They called it the hell of stayen . This together with Antwerpen-beerschot are the crazyist
the new football rule: You can't punish a player/team twice. If it's a penalty, it can't be a red card, thats why the card changed when the VAR decided it was outside the box. That's what they said on TV when watching the game.
5:30 the reason it wasn't a penalty is because of the double jeopardy rule. "The double jeopardy rule prevents a player from receiving both a red card and a penalty for the same offense."
Yea if a player is trying to play the ball, if you take the opponent down in the box with no intention of playing the ball and being the last defender it is still a red and a penalty.
Hey Josh! You need to try a game of Kv Mechelen in Belgium! Tradition club with many supporters and always great atmosphere in home and away games! Also the last belgium team who won an european cup!💛❤

Know your rules. If the last defender takes down the attacker within the penalty area, it is never a red card unless the tackle was a danger to the players physique health. That's why ref turned the yellow into a red since the faul was commited outside of the penalty box.
Whilst it's a good derby, this definitely isn't Belgium's fiercest or best derbies. You only have to look at the Antwerp derby a few weeks ago which got abandoned. The Brussels derbies aren't bad either. Nice video nontheless.
Trust the British to draw up the wrong borderlines... Maybe one day the Flemish will reunite with the Netherlands and create a strong league and national team.
you should visit union sg the story of them going from the second division to almost winning the first division title in that year and then going on and almost winning it for 3 years in a row to now struggeling yeah you should watch them

STVV fan here who was there in the away section. That first red card was a dive. There was no touch, look at several videos from Sporza. Even though nice video, STVV-Genk is one of the fiercest derbies in Belgium, this was a relatively calm one in comparison to others. Other derbies i recommend to visit: -Beerschot - Antwerp. Next one is in early March. This is THE Classico of Belgium. Always fire. -Charleroi - Standard De Liège. Next one in late November. Always the fierce Walloon derby -KAA Gent - Club Brugge. The Battle Of Flanders. Gent is the biggest in East-Flanders province, FCB is the biggest in West-Flanders. Next one is begin march 2025. -Lokeren - SK Beveren. Currently in Second tier, next one is near christmas. Other recommendations when they happen: -KV Krotrijk - Zulte Waregem. KVK is now in first tier, has been hanging around relegation for the last few years. Zulte is potentally promoting back to first. -KV Mechelen - Lierse. Kind of an old firm derby. Didn't happen for at least 7 years. But damn this is a big one when it happens again.
