  • The TRUTH.... Today’s video goes in depth on the pros, cons, and the reality of college running from my experience as a D1 athlete. This comes from my unique experience and perspective so others may not be in the same boat or had a similar experience. I was blessed and grateful to compete at the D1 level but was also one of the most challenging and frustrating journeys I've had. I talk about what I noticed and took away over my four years at the University of Tennessee and some things to keep in mind for current and prospective college athletes. As a D1 track athlete! People need to realize not all D1 schools are created equal! You have high D1 such as Tennessee, Mid D1 such as UTEP, and low D1 such as Elon… some D2/D3 schools are better than D1! D1 means you just compete at a higher level and it’s more competitive! Plus with some perks.

as a d2 athlete, you are absolutely correct about the fact that you don't get a normal college life, however, I enjoy staying really busy. but that stress for exams can really build up on you after doing a really hard workout and then going home and devoting the rest of the day to your schoolwork. Really good video brother! 💪

Thanks for the comment! I also agree that I love the rigid schedule that kept me busy but yes it can get overwhelming. Honestly it's the toughest when the sport ends bc now you have to figure out how to function outside the athlete routine

Hey man, thank you for the video🙏 I'm a junior college track and field athlete and just finished my first season. What you said is 100% true; like academics, it's a hard transition from high school. The season didn't go the way I expected and was thrown off by the politics that killed my love for it, but I still tried my best to make it count. It gives me solace to hear another athlete talk about similar struggles, especially one competing at the high D1 level, as it brings a sense of communtiy for others like me. Thank you for sharing my dude🙏

I was a D1 walkon at a small college, a distance runner who topped out at 60-70 miles a week and not very good. This was back in the early/mid 90s. The support structure that exists today wasn't there. But many of my friends were on the team. My biggest advice is to structure your time and make sure you budget time for studying. 3:30-5:30 or 6 practice, then shower, dinner, 7 or 7:30 until 11 or until done for studying. And high school seniors, ask prospective coaches their philosophy for developing you and their attitude toward the student side of student-athlete make sure it rings true to you.
Other than that, listen to this guy, nice breakdown!

No way that 7% of American high schoolers make it to D1 for even one season or year. I dont know where you gathered that statistic.
In a typical 45 person team at a high school of 2000, that would come to 3 boys and 3 girls each year. The average is more like 1%.
