Apparently this engine was a surplus engine from the RAF from their Handley Page Hyderabad and Vickers Vernon aircraft, assembled near the end of WW1, and the madmen at Napier got their hands on a spare engine, and made this. Plus, this has a 65 gallon gas tank to keep the engine punching. As Nick states, this does 5 mpg, but he did not announce this was tested at 5,000 ft, about a third of the service parameters of this engine. Since the air is more dense (14.7 psi compared to ~10 psi) this engine would get slightly better fuel economy, but not by much. I spent way too long typing this useless info that nobody will read LOL!

I'e seen this car multiple times at Goodwood Festival of Speed - they actually start it up and drive it up the hillclimb there!

I went to both of the museums about 1-2 years ago and they were just amazing!!
It's not the only car with an airplane engine, the 1920's Mercedes has one, the 1938 Maserati 8CTF has one. Most of your early race cars had airplane engines. Not all from an actual aircraft. Aircraft engines were really just an enlarged car engine. Some manufacturers made the aero engine and built the car around it, some got the engine and built the car around it. Edit: one race car with the manufacture name Benz-Mercedes (yes you read right) has an airplane engine to.

I have upgraded the engines to full, Rwd with vintage race tyres and upgraded brakes and springs. Drives like a charm once you can control it.

For those interested: Napier also made an engine called a Deltic; so called after the Greek Letter Delta (which is a triangle). It had 3 banks of V cylinders facing each other with the 2 opposing pistons sharing a combustion chamber. This rather unusual layout led to the engine having 3 separate crankshafts and some variations of this engine had 36 total cylinders.
