AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on UA-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). yescandles RVerTV has a lot of great videos specifically about staying in and around Quartzsite and about the activities there and what to watch for when to get there when to leave and what's going on in town.

@@Oklahomajewel1 I'll have to look that RVerTV up Julie, I hadn't heard of it! We've stayed 1 night...twice, at Quartzite upon passing through to somewhere else, but will hopefully come for a minimum of 2 weeks next year, or perhaps a month. We have atv's too, so it might be worthwhile doing some exploring in the back-country! Makes me wonder if there are some good maps of the Quartzite area now?

Quartzsite gets very full around the winter months. Beautiful weather, free camping in the desert. People coming down escaping the snow, and cold weather. Town empties out in the summer months. It gets very hot. Big r v show. Lots of rock and gem shows. If you go to Quartzsite, go prepared. Take lots of groceries

My retired grandparents used to spend every winter in Q when I was stationed at March AFB. 70-85. Grandpa ran the rock shop. They stayed at Desert Sunset Trlr Park. Grandmas ashes are scattered on Dome Rock.

Great video. We have been going to Quartzsite every January since 2015 (maybe even earlier). We meet up with basically the same group of friends every year. It is very relaxing and fun. Best part is seeing those friends (most live in other states) and all the good food we cook. We look forward to this trip, starting our countdown and planning in November. 😄🤘

Just to clarify, you can stay for free on BLM land for 14 days in designated areas, but then you are supposed to move 25 miles away if you wish to stay longer. They also have 2 week passes for $40 in the pay areas, and a 6 month pass is $180 on any BLM land in the state. Either pass allows you to dump your tanks and get fresh water if available. And they keep an eye out on the dump and fresh water stations to prevent non payers from cheating.

It's seven months on the $180 from September 15th to April 15th. Great way to live if you need to stay somewhere cheap! Also, there are many other things going on in the winter in Quartzsite besides The Big Tent RV Show. There are signs up everywhere as to what to do. There's the Quartzsite market place (flea market) that stays the whole winter for the most part. The Roadtramp Rendevouz (RTR) meets every year in January...has seminars and a great place to meet people from all over. And a FB page called Quartzsite Chatter. Hope this helps also.

If staying in Quartzite, consider taking a passport, and detour for a couple days on the beach. Rocky Point, Puerto Penasco is only an hour south of the border. There is a nice campground on the beach with restaurants and beach clubs. There’s even a Sam’s Club to stock up when getting to town. I walked to the local OXXO, (7/11) Bought a pound of coffee, a liter of good tequila, fruit and bread, and two packs of smokes $18. It would have been $100 easy at Frye/Kroger in US.

The RV show is a small part of what happens in Quartzsite, the whole place starts churning around October, hits its peak in January and February, and depending on how quickly it starts getting really hot, will last through April or May. Basically, it is one big swap meet, and different events and shows happen throughout the season.

I just spent three months parked in the BLM spots, both short term and long term, and I loved it! I came to realize that many (most) RVers bring their quads or ATV's with them and explore the back country. Unfortunately I didn't have one, but it does look like a blast.
Keep up the great work folks.... love your channel!

I was in Quartzsite years ago; it was started by rock-hounds who picked up rocks, cut them with a diamond saw and polished them for sale. They made belt-buckles, necklaces, ear-rings, etc. They came there in the winter because it was too hot in the summer.

I love the drone shots...they are the best visual aid I have for all that I have heard..They sure are broken down into tribes aren't they! Love your videos, I take notes every time. There are about 60 RV Parks in Quartzsite, they all have activities everyone can attend. QIA also has activities, if you are bored in Quartzsite it's your fault. Within a couple hours, you can cross the border into Mexico, you can be in CA, NV, and Phoenix! We loved it so much we moved here from VT. No more 8 months of the cold!

Besides the RV show there is the gem and mineral show, gold panning, show, and the Ham Radio meet. The Ham radio meet is one of the biggest in the nation and possibly the world. t it you could study and get you ham license, upgrade you license, take a dessert tour with the hams, learn many other things at the Ham radio meeting. There are also some places where if you know the locals you can stay all winter without paying or moving other than going in to get more propane, water, and dump grey and black water systems.
You can reduce you town visits also if you have an incinerator black water tank system which will also save money as you have to pay for dumping those tanks.

Very nice and very informative. I have seen quite a few videos about Quartzite, but this tone you made touched on things I hadn't heard about before. Especially the part about Hi Jolly and the Camels. Which kinda sounds like it could have been a 60's or 70's rock or folk rock band.

Having been to the Q several times, unless you're there to meet up with friends or go off-roading, you're really not missing anything. First time was just my wife, me, the desert and the RV "show". But like every other swapmeet, it gets old fast. Sean explained it pretty good. I wouldn't call Quartzite a bucket list item.

    • @geraldhenrickson7472

I wish it were an RV swap meet. It is not...just a bunch of stuff worth seeing once. Maybe twice. It is the friends that make it a destination. Were Butch and Sundance still alive, they would have stayed here. Its a great place to winter away from all the hoopla elsewhere. Aside from the winds and occasional rain, its perfect weather-wise...in the Winter.

A couple of weeks ago we went out to Quartzite for the rock show. We took the time to visit several of the BLM areas. Seems the best areas are a mile or two out of town -- just far enough to be quiet. There was someone at the entry station that answered all of our questions. If you are into rocks, lapidary or just the desert, the price is right.

Hi Sean and Kristy !!!! Sorry I missed you at Quartzsite. We were there the week of January 22nd coming all the way from the Washington Land Yacht Harbor. I think I may have been the only one with a 1983 Airstream 310 Classic motorhome. We were camping about 6 miles south of the Q at the BLM RoadRunner area and meeting up with all the ham radio operators there. We never miss an opportunity to check out the huge RV show there and buy all the stuff we can't live without!! In reality, we just go to get the huge ice cream portions just outside the big tent on the north side!!

To add to your talk about Hi Jolly, the Civil War broke out and the experimental Army camel program was shut down. Some of the camels were set free, some were shipped to an Army fort north of LA, Ft. Tajon along the Grapevine and some were sent up to Virginia City NV to help with the mining operations up in the Comstock, hence the camel races in Virginia City every year.

Great overview of Quartzsite. Loved the drone work. Been looking for a video to show Ginie about Quartzsite and I should have known the best would be you guys. As far as free camping there are tons about. Google up Ultimate Campgrounds for a bunch of listings. Plus Google Maps; those little rice specs you see, zoom in and there is a good chance they're RVs.

Quartzsite also has one of the largest rock and mineral shows in the world. The R & M show was there many years before the RV shows. they have classes in rock collecting, jewelry making, etc. This all starts in November and goes through March. the towns population swells to over three million at the peak in January. The towns residents are lovely people and encourage use of the library, community hall, and all the small businesses. I don't live there but have gone 4 times in the winter. Just wanted to let you know it's a lot longer than one or two weeks and is quite crowded in the pay-for parks so if that's you're intention get there early..

You forgot the metal detecting for placer gold, the RTR and WRTR each January, Q Mountain, the remote control airstrip to name a few. Was glad you mentioned the LTVA (long term visitor area) parking for $180 (2020 prices) for eight months.

we stayed in the free site for 3-4 days ...I loved it the wifey not so much but she rolled with it for a few days. I would like to catch the RV show sometime... We had solar and a generator and a good T-Mobile signal so we could stream Netflix at night … not too shabby. I could hang out there for a while but the wifey gets bored and the town is pretty small so we moved on...I would love to do it again!!!

Ok one thing you touched on but not quite clear is the rv specific services in Quartzsite that I have only ever seen here in Q and that is the dump and fill services for rvs. There are a few. I use the Pit Stop mainly but there are others. For $20 I can pull in and dump sewer and fill my fresh water tank. They also sell propane. Its all pull through and very easyfor even the largest of rigs.

Spent one night in Quartzite last winter on our way to Tombstone (just for the experience) and eventually made our way back to Lake Havasu to meet up with friends, which is just up the road from Quartzite! That was in our truck & camper, and we're hoping to find a good used Class A diesel pusher for the next trip to Quartzite and beyond. Time in fleeting, and the winter is long here in western Canada, so I'm looking forward to enjoy the lifestyle of staying and going...for as long as we feel like doing so! ;)

We loved the Q for what it is, thanks for the good vid. Maybe we'll catch up at Vinnies in his new digs, I almost want something to break so only he can fix it!! Take Care!

Parker AZ is just a few miles north of Quartzite for your usual conveniences. Sometimes a reasonable hardware store or even Walmart can brighten up your stay. Perhaps a better post office during the busy times in Quartzite.
Free dry camping is all over a few miles out of town...,you just need to stop in at the host to obtain a free 14 day permit in many cases. And the cost to have full hookups (in the off season) is incredibly cheap. You WILL need A/C during the warm months unless you are a world weary retired archaeologist who can withstand sleeping in a 120 degree bed. Few can do it w/o A/C. Remember also that the LTVA areas work out to a buck a day for water and a dump IF you stay the full 180 days. Most do not stay for that long. Quartzite is not perfect yet it IS affordable.

I just wanted to say thank you for going back to your roots a bit and publishing the quality and genre of videos again. Your personality and sense of humor are fantastic. It's not that I dislike watching the seemore being rebuilt, but this is your sweet spot. This is one of the best videos on Quartzsite I have ever seen, informative and beautifully done.

    • @LongLongHoneymoon
      @LongLongHoneymoon  7 років тому +1

Thanks much for your thoughtful comment. I agree with you that this type of video is probably our sweet spot. I try to view our UA-cam channel as a "show" or magazine that offers a variety of content. That way we can tell stories, talk about & review gear, spotlight travel destinations, and so forth. Of course not every video will appeal to every person. It's kind of like musical bands and songs -- I like the Beatles but prefer "Sgt Pepper" to "Magical Mystery Tour." ;) Anyway, we still have one major SEEMORE update video on the agenda (which many have requested!), but I'll always strive to offer a healthy variety as we move forward. Cheers

Very nice video, good format of just some of the beauty in Arizona as a whole. Quartzsite has gone thru many evolutions over the past 40 years I have lived in AZ. It has gotten quite a boost from RV camping, bring a lot of younger folks into the mix.
My only concern is to let every one know to respect the land for future travelers, pack in / pack out.
I voluntarily spend time cleaning up trash thru out AZ where ever I go on the BLM.
    Including our State Lands.
Should any one like to try the AZ State Lands remember you will need a permit, cheap and on line.
    God Bless

Just wanted to add something in relation to your segment about the Camels. I have a book (along with original photos and drawings) on the history of the Sierra Nevada and the migration west in the 1800's. It mentioned the camels and stated that camels have feet perfect for walking on sand, but the areas where the ground is rocky, especially small rocks, would severely damage their feet and thus the idea of camels as pack animals was abandoned! The book is titled "The history of the Sierra Nevada".
